Looks like AKAI needs to add a Spectrum Analyzer and Visual Graphic EQ with a frequency spectrum for the next software update. Also, we need the Mixer view from the Live Control mode so we can gain stage properly and compare levels of various tracks side by side. Excellent video! Hopefully AKAI implements those changes so we can have more natural mixing process when making beats.
@BKU Brown I hoped that they would never add key detection, but they did it anyway. Everyone uses the MPC differently, so more features never hurts. The whole key detection feature is completely useless to me because I actually understand music theory and took Aural skills. The point is if they add a visual EQ, then it's there if you want it and you don't have to use it if you don't want to.
Great job as always bro. It really helps to see the process trial and error and experimentation until u figured out what worked best in each scenario. Thank you
Man, that Clip is really helpful, cause I just installed the MPC software to my computer but still am using my Live in standalone mode. Cool Beat by the way! Stay healthy, Bro! Greetings from Germany!
Yoooo! Sight, this video is gold dust! .Clear, precise workflow on standalone mixing. Can't really ask for more. I'm ditching the computer (for now). Loving doing everything inside the Live 2
🙏 I'm glad it brought you some value bro! The onboard stuff is pretty capable, just requires us to use our ears more. That's not a bad thing, especially for new producers 💯💯💯
I think I might put out a small beat tape doing everything inside my live 2 in standalone as a challenge for myself. Thanks for the dope tutorial big dog💪🏾💯
Thank you for the thorough tutorial! How are you digitally capturing the MPC Live screen without using a camera on the screen? I teach in a classroom setting and would love to be able to display the MPC screen on a large monitor without using a camera. Thank you for your help!
Always top notch content my brother! Just upgraded from the Live to the Retro Edition, and I never got into mixing much but this is VERY informative and helpful brother, thanks!!🙏🏾✊🏾🔥🔥🔥
First of all, thank you for the video. Loved it. A couple questions and comments: 1. On the melody 1 (Inst-Synth-Crystal)... is there a way to capture/sample the patch/program with all it's effects, thus creating a new patch/sample where we can use a new set of 4 effect slots? 2. would you recommend to sub-group all the sounds (kick/bass, srums, harmonies, melodies and vocals) into their proper subgroup and then mix the subroups and not the individual sounds? Comment: I belive tha mixing by ear is more difficult, yet it trains the ear; instead of being dependent of visuals... what are your thoughts on that? thank you once again
Yo thanks for that double click to get rid of the lines tip. Just so people know it works in the software to. Just double click the meter and they disappear.
Man you make this all look so easy to do I’m so lost. I use channel strip & sometimes the maximizer & noticed I was still clipping on the channel mixer when my master was fine
You can put the Maximizer on multiple channels, as well as on the master, but usually I will turn all my programs down 3db just to make sure. Don’t forget to double tap the top of the meters every now and then to clear the peak markers. If not they will stay high even when the channel is turned down and throw you off.
I stopped mixing and mastering in standalone because of air Maximizer. I had to go back to using the software and Limiter No. 6. That air Maximizer always seems to add unwanted artifacts. I just feel like I don't have enough control over what it's doing. If anyone needs a good free limiter for the software, Limiter no 6 is where it's at (as far as free limiters go).👍
Nice tips, bro! I like to use a prefader gain and not to lower my program level that much. You can try it and see if it works for you. I feel like effects are happier if you don't drive them that hard.
@@labandlegacy you just Add a channel strip as a first effect in rack and lower the gain. Disable eq and compression. I know you loose one effect slot, that’s the compromise.
Another option and maybe more suitable would be to lower the midi track level from the track mixer page. It seems to have the same effect, it just lowers the level before the effects. At beginning I thought it was messing up with tone, but I experimented a bit lately and find out that it doesn't . I think Akai should be more clear in the manual regarding the signal path inside the newer MPCs.
Any examples of how the effects are driven too hard without brining the levels down pre-fader? It seems a bit hard to believe that it would make a difference because of the headroom in the channel mixer. Just like a daw, it's not like the MPC clips anything internally just because a signal is over 0 dB. It would only clip on the end-of-line master outs. Unless they really messed up when designing the signal processing on these machines to be different from any other daw environment.
It's a great video. MPC has elements that make work fun like analog MTR. I believe that simple effects with restrictions make the sound quality more tasty. I'm looking forward to the next video.from JP
hey man just gotta say all your videos about the MPC LIVE 2 have been phenomenal.I bought it literally last week and Im dropping a new video each night now. Id appreciate any feedback or tips you can give me on my sampling/beat making with the live 2
Bro, you're killing it! You got some 🔥🔥🔥 Only tip I can really give you is about your video production. Get an interface for your phone, whether it's a simple cable or adapter to allow you to get direct audio to your phone (I did a video about getting better audio on your phone). Also, put some type of spotlight on yourself and the MPC. That's what the people are trying to see! I think top down just a little bit in front of you would create a dope look for that mask. Keep up the good work though bro, your shit is dope! 💯💯💯
can you PLEASE make the music and your voice the sae levels?? my ears are bleeding everytime you start talking, i have to adjust the volum all the time.
Ohhhh, Sight I'm thinking about the Model12. You're a great teacher, would you ever consider doing a MPC -> Tascam mixing tutorial. The lack of these is putting me and likely others off a bit
I appreciate the feedback bro 🙏 I personally am not a fan of mixing on a device like the Model 12. I was using it mostly for routing and multi-tracking into the computer since it has really good preamps, but it has some shortcomings in the output stage which caused me not to trust it for mixing/monitoring and eventually led me to sell it.

I agree. Those would make standalone a lot more professional. Thanks for watching and for the dope feedback!
Absolutely yes.
I hope they dont, genuinely. This ISNT a daw, no visual mixing please

How are you capturing the Live screen so cleanly without your hands or fingers showing up in the screen???

Good content bro, we gonna go ahead without pause.
That the time is the next page up to progres. Stll.
One love.
Nice work bro. I think I need to mix more inside the MPC to put out more music!
That makes sense, especially if you dont have the patience to export stems and it's slowing down your process to complete beats.
Wow that reverb made a world of difference... nice work. I wondered how folks mix in the one.
Sho Yaa Rite Fam. Respect! Your very helpful for someone like me that's learning the mpc one
Excellent Video, now to put this into practice , not really used Returns or Sends before, so will try this in my next project
ive never used submix or fx send. thanks for teaching me, bro.

I gotta check that out! I just got Ozone recently so I've been saved from searching for a good one. I'm gonna get it anyway though lol
Limiter 6 is in the mpc x ?

I'm listening on the exact same headphones. Sounds dope to me. Yup ;)
Beat sounds good! Impressive mix!
I appreciate it bro, thanks for jumping in the chat! I wish I knew the audio was kinda low in the stream, but I'll fix it for the next one.
🔥🔥🔥Thanks for the knowledge bro!
🙏 Thanks for watching bro!
If you. Buy the mpc one do you really have to master your songs as I want the mpc just that no external mixer
You can do your mix and master in a DAW if you like. The mixing is better in the MPC since 2.10 with the new Limiter though.
Yes I just want to master on the mpc one and my Tascam Recorder no computer of external stuff
this was very useful
Glad you found some value in it bro!
what stand are you using to hold your live?
how can I put the Bass and Kick in Mono ? Thx mAN
In the new Limiter plug in, there's a LP mono knob.
what if u have it in the yellow is yellow too loud??
Needed this vid.👍🏾
