    You can get spring relocators that fix the spring at the top and with the bottom located by a cone which is fixed to the lower spring mounts. I had this setup in the past and it worked well, the added advantage was it was quieter than the top mounted cones. I currently have the full Gwyn Lewis Challange suspension and the rear top mount cones work exceptionally well and has a hook to catch the last coil in extreme conditions.

    OTF. A Defender coil spring dis-locating on the rear axle needs careful attention ! Look at the coil poly spacers on Fleabay, as Downunder offer their 20/30/50mm options to retain the OME coil spring just inside the outrigger for your situation ? And then limiting straps to prevent those BP-51's from over extending in-situ. V

    Nice video! Seems there are some really tough tracks!
    Maybe welding the upper spring mount a bit longer can also fix the problem without loosing flex.
    While changing the rear leaf springs on my 76series I lowered the car without the spring mounted on one side and yes, I won't imagine what happen when it accidently happens while driving. Keep save and solve the issue quick, to add more good videos in the future!
    What are your experiences comparing the Toyo M/T vs. the KM3?

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 года назад

      Thanks! It's a really cool place to enjoy offroading, testing the car and the driver. Yes we are working on the spring solution and will get it done asap. This situation shouldn't occur while driving on road as it was really in full flex that it happened, and even with the max flex it didn't completely go out of its placement, so should be all good. Very happy with the KM3, they went well offroad and are less noisy than the Toyo on road. We know that Toyo M/T do handle very well rocky tracks, so we'll have to see if KM3's are good on those types of tracks.

    Good video but crap suspension set up. Imagine overlanding a far away land when you hit an obstacle and get air then both your rear coils fall out in mid air and you land with NO springs! By by family. That is a real safety issue. I hope you fix it right away. It may be fine for local green laning, but it is insane for travel. Land Rovers are likely the most rolled over vehicles on earth. This is one reason why.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 года назад +1

      Reading your message I feel you haven't watched all the video or didn't listen or read why this happened to the rear spring. It's a great suspension set and there's a reason why this happened. As said in the video we needed to test offroad to be sure it wouldn't or would happen. It did happen, I exposed why, also exposed our 2 solutions, and it'll be fixed before traveling. The purpose of doing this type of fun outing is to test the vehicle and stay prepared for overlanding by knowing properly the vehicle's capabilities with its current setup.

    • @fabulousoffroaddesigns5080
      @fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 2 года назад

      @@offtrackfamily no I watched the video and you said you would be changing it but you don't explain why or how dangerous it is, or how you ended up making the mistake and how others need to NOT make the mistake.
      The other issue is this off-road park is not in your back yard, you drove there and drove home like this. If you needed to make a moose avoidance maneuver when you swing left the left spring could fall out, then when you swing/turn right there is no spring to support the vehicle so it would instantly flop or roll over. As a leader in the LR community you should have shown everyone that this is a "very serious situation" that could cause injury or death, and you should have fixed it before going home. Not to mention that spec'ing the car for flex, which is a poser/instagram move and not relevant to actual off road capability could have injured or killed members of your family or others walking or travelling in the other direction.
      Actually doing a second video about this now still may be a huge service to the community and could save lives.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 года назад

      I understand your concern about this and the reason why we shared it & explained why it happened regarding our personal setup is to share our experience and help viewers understand better some situations. The spring didn't completely go out of its placement even though it was the maximum flex physically possible of our Defender. Relocation cones will be installed like on our previous setup in which springs were made to go out of their placement when offroading and where guided by a cone to come back correctly. I don't underestimate the accident possibility but certainly not the catastrophic scenario of an on road avoidance manouver you mention with our springs falling out. Almost reaching 200k km of driving with our Defender, you must certainly understand we experienced many different road situations and if our suspension setup was dangerous, we wouldn't have kept it this way. This is also why we had & have adjustable shocks, adjustable for road or off-road use. When on-road they are adjusted to harder to limit roll pitch, as you mentioned this previously. The ARB OME BP-51 shocks are adjustable for compression and rebound, which means we can have the best suspension settings for our vehicle. Yes we will share another video when we will add relocation cones with an explanation as we share our experiences and feel it can help others :)

    If the car gets a pop-up roof with a bed and maybe a roof rack, the car fully loaded with four people, water tank and diesel tank full, i.e. fully equipped with a weight of more than 3 tons, you will no longer be able to drive this terrain without knocking over the car. Take care.

    • @offtrackfamily
      @offtrackfamily  2 года назад

      For sure it'll be different with the full setup but not much more different than our previous setup. Should be even better as most weight will be on the lower part of the car. We didn't tip the car before so should go well with the new setup, might not be able to do everything we did that time but would have to test ;)
