They just did Memento you idiot! Weren't you paying attention??!.....And Wisecrack, if you're reading this, please do Memento next!! It's one of my favorite movies
I know this is long but bear with me? 🐻😄 There's one element of the story that has also been left out from the narrative and the viewer meant to build even more confusion. OK as he has stated anything after the incident he cannot remember. Only everything up to the point of him banging his head. He goes on explaining this point to whom he is speaking to saying he told the cops that he remembers everything up to the incident perfectly and that there were two men. But now due to the mental illness that was inflicted on him, they believe he holds no credibility on the second suspect thus dismissing his claim. Now having this disability he is sent voluntarily/involuntarily to be taken care of at a hospital in which he leaves or escapes to pursue his own Justice for the second suspect because even though he may not remember his wife deserves Justice. I back this claim because in the movie right at 01:59:56 he talks about why Sammy always seemed like he remembered him every time he came out to visit him for an evaluation explaining that you pretend that you seem like you know the person, that way you don't seem that much stranger to the person just to get a pat on the head from the doctor. Here in this moment you get a slight glimpse into his past if you can catch it because him talking about Sammy comes from personal knowledge as he has had to do the same and at 01:30:01 you see Leonard in the chair at the hospital pretending to be the one to recognize the doctor and not Leonard. Until the at 01:30:05 you see the sadness in his eyes and on his face as you see he into past before changing what his memory interprets.
That's the only thing I didn't understand. What's the meaning behind the tattoo? He did what? Why is his wife still alive? I assume she survived and he continued his life with amnesia, but why he got tattoed that after??
@@ksendza his wife was graped not murdered, he revenged her and killed the bastard. Then he accidentally killed his wife just like sammy. (Or maybe he is sammy, unclear.) In his grief he gets the tattoo removed, and thus he has erased his own memory, and removed the guilt of his wifes death. Making "John G." his wife's "killer" (because he no longer remembers she lived) the bad guy. In an effort to remove his guilt he's essentially doomed himself to kill guy's named John G.
@@ksendza That tattoo means Leonard's memory can be shaped and changed into anything. He is an unreliable narrator and he even tells us these things about memory in the movie. Natalie also says "you have to question everything". Lots of people were fooled into thinking the ending scene and John G's speech cleared everything up, but they were far from correct. We wont ever know the truth because Leonard probably doesn't even know.
@@shaggyspade2468Except no, because Teddy is trying to manipulate Leonard. That’s why he isn’t telling the truth in the final scene. Sammy was real, and Teddy is a corrupt cop who killed Leonard’s wife with Jimmy, and then used Leonard to kill Jimmy, his competition as as a drug dealer. “Don’t believe his lies”
It’s kind of how life is for all of us. We make the same mistakes again and again and we constantly forget our own morals, it kind of also explains the real reasons we should get tattoos, have something meaningful on our bodies to remind us of what we believe we should doing as a prompt. You probably forgot you left this comment. And I will forget too.
I'd say figuring out Leonard's lack of trustworthiness makes us re-evaluate him more than the other two characters; the point of the film is hinged upon his character's motivations. Why does he feel the need to manipulate facts (as he recalls them) or create a new John G out of Terry? Because Memento is a story about how people fool themselves in order to add meaning to their lives.
Except no, because both Teddy and Jimmy are John G. They are the real John Gs who killed Leonard’s wife. In the final scene Teddy is trying to manipulate Leonard.
Some spoilers here - The I've done it tattoo is Lenny imagining his revenge that he got John G (who never really existed, because Lennys condition is psychological, not physical. Thus there was no 2nd killer and it was totally invented by Lenny. You can tell by the way Lenny collapses in the bathroom when he falls opposite his wife, and the way he BS's how John G cleaned up the crime scene when speaking to Natalie. The same way he BS's how he got the Jaguar and suit when asked by Teddy. Lenny makes up his own truth.). Back to the tattoo, why would his wife be alive in the shot where his collar tattoo says "killed my wife"? Also notice the I've done it tattoo can only be read by a 3rd person view, so he is imagining, similar to the shot where Natalie tells him to close his eyes and remember. This review missed a lot of points and does not do the movie the justice it deserves. Also missed is the point of the 5 stages of grief, where Lenny is always in denial, because he cannot heal since he cannot feel time. That was a lot. But the movie has several puzzles, they are fun to solve after a few rewatches.
Yes there was a 2nd killer, at the end Teddy tells Leonard: "we found him, you killed him" Teddy also tells him: "two junkies too strung out to realize your wife didn't live alone" He says *two* junkies, Teddy also has the Polaroid picture he took right after Leonard "did it"
@@Avendale The police on scene did not think there was a 2nd attacker. Lenny then invents John G up to deny he killed his diabetic wife by insulin overdose to help him cope and shift blame. He finds a detective (Teddy) who takes his case that there was a 2nd attacker. Again its really obvious when he BS's how "John G" cleaned up the crime scene when speaking to Natalie when Natalie asks about what happened the night of his wife's assault (the scene where he's going through the police report at Natalies house). Teddy takes Lenny's case at his "unreliable" word. Lenny invents John G the same way he invents Sammy Jankis. Why? Simply because Lenny is a psychopathic killer who makes up his own reality (his killer instinct is apparent when killed his wife's attacker at a whim, same with Dodd as soon as he sees him in his own apartment, add in the fact he makes up his own reality with his amnesia and you get a psycho serial killer). The first polaroid was just a John G who happened to fit the bill of Lenny's fictitious story.
Lenny did not kill his wife. You don't apply insulin shots at the leg. That memory was fake, Teddy was lying. Also, Lenny remembers Sammy and his wife, and even talked to Sammy's wife after Sammy's trial. Those memories are true because it was previous of the incident.

I realized after i watched this movie for the 2nd time that i had already seen it before i must have been really young cause a movie this brilliant shouldn't be forgotten
Help me understand: How did Leonard remember to condition himself to remember what he did to his wife as something that someone else did? If he already had his condition when he gave her the shots, he would have just forgotten. Even if he "remembers Sammy," wouldn't he just remember the truth of Sammy's story? How does he remember to change the narrative if it happened after his accident? He doesn't seem to repress or change other new memories throughout the movie, he seems totally incapable of retaining anything. So it doesn't seem to me that he would remember the insulin at all...
He has the condition, but repetition can train him to remember things. He lied to himself to keep himself on a mission so that he’d have purpose and be happy. He repeatedly lied and twisted the stories so that over time he believed them. In the end, you can see that he is cognizant of his goal to keep the hunt going. That amount of consciousness about lying to himself, plus the type of amnesia he has where repetition beats memories, conduces the mindset that he has in the movie.
@@youtubeepicuser4209Except insulin isn’t injected into the leg. Teddy was obviously lying to him so that he would continue being a tool for him. “Don’t believe his lies”
Never quite believed that your memory could get this bad, that was until I got TBI myself. It's not quite as bad as this but it's bad enough that you really do start to question what is real and what isn't. You become paranoid because you think someone has been in your room since you don't remember moving stuff around, you don't remember using that, or you don't remember eating that. Awesome that y'all this actually made me question what narratives I've been creating for my ownself.
What I'd like to know is how he even remembers what he (or Sammy Jankis) did to his wife. He made her overdose on insulin AFTER he had amnesia. I'd get that he would remember Sammy because he met him before the amnesia, but how does he remember his wife overdosing?
Sammy isn't real, he's a proxy for Leonard. The story for Sammy is the actual story of Leonard; he made up a life-lie in order to continue his endless search for his wife's killer because he doesn't wish to face the truth that he actually killed her himself.
I don't think he ever does remember it He never claimed he did it was just the movie showing that it happened that way or he imagined it after he was told the truth
He doesn't per'se remembers Sammy Jenkis. It's through repetition that he does. This is why he have a tatoo on his hand that states "Remember Sammy Jenkis". If he really remembered him, he wouldn't need the tattoo to remind him.
The movie didn't say he overdose his wife at all. If she died of overdose then what is up with our hero reading police report looking for a murderer???
Does anyone know why the f he put that dudes clothes on? That's about the only thing I can't figure out. It's like along the lines of 'wandering into a Jaguar dealership in your grief'. You just strangle a guy, so your next move it to put his clothes on. 'No let's hide behind the chainsaws'.
Thank you so much for explaining/making a recap of the movie❤. After I watched the movie I stared af a wall for 30 minutes, trying make sense of what I saw😂
Leonard becomes a serial killer with the perfect alibi: he has Anterograde Amnesia. He cannot remember all the crimes he committed. I believe he’ll continue to operate in that town or another but will eventually get caught. Teddy was covering his tracks but since Lenny killed him, the police will eventually catch up to him. There’s no way he could continue to operate like he’s been doing long term without someone helping him. Most likely he’ll end up back in a state hospital or institution.
+Wisecrack can you do the simerrelians (Idk how to spell the title) but it's the book that Tolkien wrote that acts as the bible for Lord of the rings. for thug notes
wow perfect timing, i finally got around to watching this just last week. i can't believe it took so long it was immediately one of my favorite movies ever.
you guys should have appointed the fact that leonard's condition (anterograde amnesia) is CERTAINLY not what it seems, as he should be incapable of learning that he has such condition, and he not only knows it but also explains to other people, including the viewer, over and over. what he has actually is dissociative amnesia (hollywood version, of course), for he suppresses and distorts new and old memories only to sustain his delusional account of how his wife died: should his condition have been really caused by the burglar who broke into his house, that should be as far as his memories would go! but he knows basically everything that happened after that, up to his wife's death, which actually happened later on. he even went as far as to remove pieces from the police report, which was originally complete, to help create the conspiracy he lives on
Wait a second. Leonard has short-term memory loss, and the last thing that he remembers is his wife's death, then how the hell did he remember he has short-term memory loss in the first place? How does he continue to know that every single time his memory resets?
At least you dealt with the scene near the end where he is in bed with his wife -- and with all his tattoos, including the "I've done it." That's been bugging me for years and no one has been able to explain it. This has to mean that his wife never died. Chronologically, it must be the _last_ event in the story. He must have gone missing on his vengeance quest. It must have been a long time, based on the volume of records he had in his binder, the number of tattoos, and having killed at least three men. This means that Sammy Jankis _wasn't_ Leonard, but the director made us think that might be the case, just to screw us up. Leonard didn't OD his wife with insulin and she wasn't killed by the attackers. It's unforgivable that the director inserted that clip of Leonard for Sammy. Anyway, the wife finally finds Leonard and they are together again. All is well, except for his memory loss and his murder of three people, at least two of whom were innocent. A drug dealer and a crooked cop, yes, but not the ones who attacked him and his wife.
There is something in there, especially given the title, which makes my home country look really ill but I CANT TELL because i just cannot want to see it. Only watched 'that guy with the glasses's review on it (Or someone from their crew talking of it).

Omg +Wisecrack, I love you so much!! Thank you for doing Memento! This was amazing!!
Great video. Could you find the hidden meaning in Amadeus?
+Wisecrack
Freaking love that movie!
The hidden meaning is that Mozart's brother was a dick (in the movie at least, not historically).
Salieri wasn't Mozart's brother
wow perfect timing, i finally got around to watching this just last week. i can't believe it took so long it was immediately one of my favorite movies ever.
BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!
yes
The Nightmare Before Christmas, please :).
Do "The Thing" 1988
+Ray Martinez Nice King Crimson, bb.
you guys should have appointed the fact that leonard's condition (anterograde amnesia) is CERTAINLY not what it seems, as he should be incapable of learning that he has such condition, and he not only knows it but also explains to other people, including the viewer, over and over. what he has actually is dissociative amnesia (hollywood version, of course), for he suppresses and distorts new and old memories only to sustain his delusional account of how his wife died: should his condition have been really caused by the burglar who broke into his house, that should be as far as his memories would go! but he knows basically everything that happened after that, up to his wife's death, which actually happened later on. he even went as far as to remove pieces from the police report, which was originally complete, to help create the conspiracy he lives on
Wait a second. Leonard has short-term memory loss, and the last thing that he remembers is his wife's death, then how the hell did he remember he has short-term memory loss in the first place? How does he continue to know that every single time his memory resets?
I mean...if he keeps forgetting recent things, it's just common sense. Even Leonard would be able to connect the dots.
he's just conditioned himself is all, he has a few lines he keeps repeating over and over to everyone he meets
Repetition. He says that over and over again, along with the Sammy Jenkins story.
So what does it mean again?
"Fim noir, my second-favorite noir after pinot"
I was waiting for this for soooo long
At least you dealt with the scene near the end where he is in bed with his wife -- and with all his tattoos, including the "I've done it." That's been bugging me for years and no one has been able to explain it.
Again, great video. Now, since Michael Cimino just passed away, could you analyze The Deer Hunter?
Batman V Superman, can´t wait! But please use the Ultimate Cut.
There badly is any hidden meaning in it, the one that is, is poorly executed
I imagine Garrix's jokes about Martha
+Matheus Lacerda of course there is
You're just to blind.
Little tip: God and power
+Malek Khodr Poorly executed tho
How would there be any meaning in that film?
Seems like you actually went in chronological order which is pretty cool
Inglorious Basterds >>> Django Unchained
Because these movies are so similar to each other
I would agree, though the movies are very very different, and have different strengths.
BOTH SUCK
go back to the days of reservoir dogs and pulp fiction
Nolan >>>>>>> Tarantino
The other way around
dahuuuuud! you are one of the funniest people i have never met
Please, please, please do the hidden meaning in Donnie Darko!
A video on the hidden meaning in 'The talented Mr Ripley' would go down a treat!
Do hidden meaning in a Serbian film
Dude you're fucked up. Nice to meet you , though. And have you tried oldman ?
I agree. Is it really about the plight of the Serbs? Or is it just some whack-job's fantasy snuff film?
+teknifix so many people say it's just a fucked up movie, but I personally think it's more to it.
I would like to hear wisecrack's opinion on this.
There is something in there, especially given the title, which makes my home country look really ill but I CANT TELL because i just cannot want to see it. Only watched 'that guy with the glasses's review on it (Or someone from their crew talking of it).
+Gaurav K I've seen oldman, it's great!
Took me 10 seconds to get "directed by this guy, and starring... this Guy!" You guys are awesome.
This comment will probably be buried in the others. Sometimes, I film myself eating my breakfast wearing an eyebrow wig. I pretend I'm Garyx Wormuloid making a porno.
whatever makes you happy
That's disgusting.
You dirty dog
Anyone knows the link to the video about Revolver? I am unable to find it...
Now that you've done this, imagine doing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Really, do imagine. And consider. And do. Please.
How come some of you video are unavailable? I know because of copyright claims but that's nonsense! Will it get sorted soon? I really want to watch the interstellar one
South Park too! It says in my country which is S.Korea but still bullshit
I'd still like to see LA Confidential
That'd be pretty cool
You should be able to stream it on Amazon, I hear it's good!
Great movie.
i never noticed the tattoo that says 'ive done it'. i wondered why he was pointing to himself like that in the photo. that would seem to suggest he was pointing to that same tattoo. yet forgot he had it removed? yet remembered it was there?
Ok i realize im late to this just seen movie for the 1st time and its pretty damn good but with short term memory how in THE FUCK!! Does he remember he's got a condition throughout the movie?? Did he find that out before he got the condition??
It's obvious to him because he thinks "oh i cant remember anything... Anything after i was hit on the head", and because he knows sammy jenks
That was amazing, Garricks Wyrmuloid. Thank you for actually making this film MAKE SENSE!
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never
I loved the movie Momento, I watch it as frequently as I can. It however makes my head hurt over and over again so my watching it over and over again, is sadistic.
Still waiting on Birdman.
Dude you don't know how happy I am with that Groundhog Day's reference.
Please do the truman show!
I just recently watched this movie and then I saw this video and its my favorite things combined.
Lol @ Ned Ryarson XD
toniquix Watch that last step it's a doosie!
Probably the best independent film I've ever seen.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Also you are wonderful and these videos are all that keep me going.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day!!!!!!
Fuzzy Puppet HERE IS A LIKE , GET A LIFE....
Hi! Have you done "The Prestige" yet?
I would love to see you review: "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind," with Jim Carey. A movie about two people in a chaotic, loving relationship... Until they get mad enough to have certain people erase their memories of eachother. The coolest part is when the main character finds out this happened, and tries to find how, and why.
It would be interesting to hear Garyx's take on "The Usual Suspects".
Eraserhead
"Can't remember to forget you" - gets me everytime.
This guy is insufferable. His smug level is off the charts
I missed this show so much
Nice *Meme*nto
20 seconds into the video, first video I watch in this channel, and I already fucking love the whole concept
Ha! "Abandoned warehouse where where to film skate vids" reference is so obscure! Jeremy Wray water tower gap! Amazing!
I need some Mementos, where do they sell it?
please do both , Django Unchained and inglorious bastards .
You should do "Singing in the Rain."
It has the infamous 'uncontrollable singing and dancing' disease that plagued humanity for centuries.
Hey, where can I buy some mementos Garyx?
YES. Hi Garyx, and thank you.
Man I really want the inglorious bastards one now.
you owe me a Inglorious Basterds video
and I want my Inglorious Basterds video
Love the work! please do 6 degress of seperation, i havent found anything done like this anywhere!
BEST SHOW EVER! ! You guys rock!
What Film History class is good for:
Being able to spot clips of Sunset Boulevard in RUclips videos
Even with all of the content that's out there in RUclips land, Wisecrack still stands out as being uniquely funny and refreshing.
lol did photoshop and print out your own mementos wrapper?
I love that throwing a grenade motion rather after he glossed over the plot
