I just started playing the English, and I've seen a few videos by titled players showing the great Queenside attacks you can achieve starting with an early b4 pawn push, but I have yet to have a level 1500 opponent allow it.
That's actually a main line in the English: 1 c4 e5 2 Nc3 Nf6 3. g3 g6 4 Bg2 Bg7 5 d3 d6 6 Nf3 0-0 7 0-0 Nc6 8 Rb1 a5 9 a3 h6 10 b4 ab 11 ab Be6 12 b5 Ne7 with play similar to Lilov's first example.
You take, queen takes, you attack with Nc3, you're up a tempo, you can do whatever you want to control the centre. It's like redoing the opening with a potential target at black's queen.
@@dustinarand I think White can just reply Ra6 and I'm not sure if Black really won anything by driving it's Knight to c8 while White is still in full control of the a file.
Very vague, black has so many threats that are just ignored by the commentator. In fact if black had won, the commentator would be saying exchanging the g2 bishop was a bad decision
Sry to say this but black played really bad here. His knights are terribly placed and there was no reason to trade off the light squared bishop. There are not even big threats for black. Looks like a match between 1800 rated player and a 2000 rated player.
the vaguest video of chess I have seen. Continuously saying look at the pieces, black has problems where the position is completely equal and no reasons given whatsoever. This was so dumb.
I love Valeri Lilovs rhythm in his teaching voice. I feel like I’m listening to a good bedtime story. He’s awesome 👏
I love the Sicilian but spent 2 months learning it and I think this opening helps me realize a lot more lines
Yep it turns sometimes into queens gambit or another gambits and it has alot of tactics
Extremely instructive, many thanks Roland UK

lol cop sirens at 6:26. classic IM move
You just see the good moves from white
Black also has many good moves in the english opening
Welcome to chess isn't it fucking obvious lol?
This was awesome. Just what i was looking for. Thanks alot
13:40 why is rook back the only move? Why not just pawn to e4?
White has 4 pieces covering this square
@@iChess2 Even exchange still? Black gets the rook on a1.
@@jasonbourne4784 1...e4 2.dxe4 fxe4 3.Qg2 and the pressure over the e4 pawn will be too much while there is nothing gained for having the Rook on b7
What do you do when after you play a3 or Rb1 they plat a5 immediately?

@@bigredracingdog466 thank you
What is the response to 1)c4,d5? People always do that to me, nobody in my league follows principles and I'm to dumb to know how to punish
Just keep in mind the principles of opening play! Central control, piece development and King's security

Do I capture and lose tempo or give up the piece and develop?
@@fan1008 ask stockfish bro.
@@fan1008 keep in mind that if you capture, your rival will have to spend a tempo also recapturing the material, so it's not a bad choice...

Good opening from white
The difference is that black doesn’t need to play to win…so trade off castles and trade off queens
After Ra7 why not ...Nc8, driving it away with gain of tempo?
Hello Dustin! To which moment of the video you refer?

There is nothing to attack there, while f5 ... g5 and f4 will give black a deadly attack

Good
Don't see the point of black Qd7.
exactly

Don't see any point, this just talk no usable ground
