- Dragon's Dogma 2 has seen very mixed reviews on Steam, and most of them stem from poor CPU performance and microtransactions. Well, today we look at one of the supposed issues as we benchmark Dragon's Dogma 2 on the RTX 4070 Super.
We'll be testing at 1080p, 1440p and 4K, with and without ray tracing, as well as with DLSS Super Resolution. This game was supposed to launch with DLSS 3 Frame Generation, and the files are in the game, but unfortunately you arent able to enable it from the menu. PureDark did release a free DLSS3 FG mod, and in future videos we'll have a look at those.
So, has Dragon's Dogma 2's issues been wildly exaggerated, or is there some merit to the mostly negative reviews found on Steam?

great coverage a little something to help out with the game purchases
You really are too good to me for real. It helps a lot, thank you very much!
Also, Dragon's Dogma is really fun! I played a bit more after the video and avoiding the city with its poor performance it really is a fun game. I shall be stealing your pawn tomorrow btw 🤣
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews glad to help out in any small way I can....hey be good to my sweet supple Cassandra now you
Cant make any promises 🤣

Maaaan! I'm playing on XBSX and the frame rate is so bad especially with big enemies so I'm planning to upgrade my PC especially for this game and I was very hesitated to get 4070 super but you really made my opinion it's really worth to upgrade and it's way better than consoles. Thank you for this 👍🏻
The 4070 Super is the GPU that gets my recommendation for 2024. I bought this one for the channel about 3 weeks ago, and I liked it so much that I actually made a profit by buying it. Let me explain: I was only planning on using this as another card in my benchmark rotation, but it ended up in my main gaming rig and I sold the 4070 Ti I had. I made just over $200 and I am still within 10-15% of the 4070 Ti performance.
I tried giving his predecessor a chance, but It wasn't for me.
I wonder if the future patches will fix the city mess.
Anyway, I'm not convinced by the graphic. Hopefully the gameplay is worth it.
I think it can, and I really hope it does. Agree with you on the graphics, they're okay. Nothing great.
I played DD1 recently, and gameplay really was awesome to me, and so far this has the ssme feel. For me it's just the performance that's holding me back from playing.
Visually sure, there are aspects where its not the best. But when you max everything out, a lot of the times you get a consistent world thats nice to look at. The way the map is designed is a 10/10 for me. A lot of exploration points, great gameplay, great story. Only plagued by performance. Don't believe what you see online with the clickbait, the MTX do NOTHING in the game. It is horrendous practice, but the game itself is fantastic(Minus the performance issues where Capcom execs should get shafted for.) It's not the devs fault, but they are the ones getting blemed now, so hopefully when the game gets fixed, it'll get the reviews it justly deserves. Defionmitely deserves poor reviews until they patch everything however.
Yeah, agree with you. The visuals didnt impress me much, but it doesnt look terrible. The world itself is great, and sometimes you crest a hill and look into the mountains, and then it looks gorgeous. Visuals are subjective though but I am not going to argue that because at times it really looks great! But everything else I 100% agree with. The game is great. It's a good exploration RPG, only plagued by performance. I was hoping to spend less time in the city but the first few questlines have you running around there quite a lot. But when you get outside the city grounds you can just enjoy a great game. I loved DD1, and so far loving DD2 as well.
I don't understand.. i have a RTX 4070 Super and a i7 14700KF and my fps is nowhere yours... 1080p i am at 70-80 fps in the wild and like 50-60 in the city.... when i first downloaded the game i was at like 120 fps in the wild and now for some reason my fps dropped.
I have the same issue a lot of the time. I'll get 100+ FPS constantly one time, and then the next day it wont go over 60. Restarting the game then restores performance sometimes, so I just keep on restarting till it's fine again 🤣
First thought it was the GPU having issues but it only happens in this game 🤷♂️
This one's not looking so good imo. Certainly needs some work on optimisation but I don't feel the textures look too good either really. Could be an interesting game but not impressed with it's performance. Disappointing, especially as we've seen games on RE Engine can perform so well.
will a 2070 super work for this game?
Yes, the problem is not the GPU, DD2 does not even use 100% of the GPU, nor the CPU from what I understand, at least I saw a couple of cases.
It is very poorly optimized on both CPU and GPU, the hardware is not the problem, your 2070 should be able to handle it in 1080p at least. (But expect to vary a lot between good performance to terrible performance, especially in cities/areas with many NPCs)
Yeah, exactly this.
Mine handled it fine but when in the main city is was absolute garbage because of the CPU utilization. The game has had ZERO pc optimization. You should not need a brand new card or CPU to run this game. Nothing about this game warrants such high specs. The graphics and even NPC complexity is nothing compared to other games. It's a lazy pc port that's it.
geez most are happy with 30ps on console
It drops to the low 20's on consoles at times and a lot of people arent bothered by that. I can never 🤣
I always get a bug in the vocation window that glirch my game... Fxking lame optimization
Yeah, I ran into quite a few bugs as well. Really hope it gets fixed soon, hate it when games launch like this 😔
I have the same graphic card but an i5 12400f and im getting 30 fps lower..... Why ???
Because the game is severely cpu limited just wait until you get to the capital I have the same cpu and I get drops below 30fps there
@@Sp4wn_- i second that
what CPU do you have???
Yeah, game is very CPU limited, as Sp4wn already said. The 12400F is holding you back here, at least until such a time when they can improve CPU optimizations with a patch or two.
Cuz 14600k has more cache and runs at almost 1GHz above your 12400
Как же мутно выглядит разрешение 1080p
Yeah, it looks terrible with default interlaced, and then it looks blurry with DLSS at 1080p unfortunately.
Только 4к , только длсс качество
I bought a 4070 S for this game; it played so badly I refunded both. 3060 ti is back in bidness. Watch out for the dragonsplague!
The poor performance stems from badly optimized CPU usage in this game unfortunately, so a faster GPU does not help. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Yea my cpu needs an upgrade(10600k), the reason for the gpu refund had nothing to do with DD2, it had some quirks and was pissing me off, and would BSOD if I tried to make it not have said quirks.
Sorry to hear that, it sucks 😔
Also, Dragon's Plague... How do you prevent that, or work around that? Seen so many people talk about towns being completely annihilated by this plague. Is it a bug, or is it a game mechanic that you have to work around?
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews I guess it comes from drakes. Kill the pawns before the save? It really seems like the devs are trolling. Mtx maybe? Haha jk idk tbh. I saw a short about it killing everyone but not how to solve it.
I have a 3090 and the game struggles to get above 40 fps in that same scene…. Wtf
What CPU do you have?
Ryzen 9 5950x@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews
Have seen a few people complain about even worse performance on high core count CPUs. Waiting for a patch addressing this would be the only way at the moment 😔
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews cpu barely goes above 35% usage, it’s a tragedy.
Hahaha, funny you say that as another person said exactly 35% as well 🤣
Forbidden west ran on a 2 teraflop ps4 gpu and a cpu straight out of 2015 laptops. Totally different ballgame
I agree. I only mentioned launch performance on PC. So many games launch in a terrible state on PC and gets fixed later. HFW launched very well with very few issues, which is not the norm. Most AAA titles nowadays require a bunch of patches down the line to address poor performance, and it's sad to see.
There is no denying that a game like Dragon's Dogma is going to hammer the CPU, but I do think it can be improved a lot with a few updates.
So outrageous man.....forbidden west looks substantially better than this game, but runs 10x better. What a crap of a port.
Yeah, Horizon FW is a great port indeed. I dont think DD2 is suffering from only port issues as it runs horribly on the consoles too. It has some core CPU issues that I really hope the devs can sort out soon.
@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews from your testing were the core CPU issues also present in the wild but less noticble, or was it restricted to the city? Like was CPU usage by the game just as fucked in cities as they were in the wild or did the usage only turn bad once in cities?
It runs great on ps5... I have no issues.
@@yorhanexus8139 its only happened to me in the city. I clear 100fps until i reach the city. I'll stutter for a second then be between 30-60 fps. It's still a great game though. It's definitely playable. FYI i have a 4070 super (windforce) and an AMD 5600X.
@@Zero-0-Cypherbecause you have 500$ console and only expect 30fps. We pay 2000$ for a high end PC and expect 140+fps.
90% of pc gamers do not have 40 series cards. Only content creators and people who JUST built a new pc have them. These tests are useless to the vast majority of your viewership.
You realize you can replace your GPU without getting a whole new PC? Your post reeks of jealousy.
Do you have a 40 series GPU? If not, why did you watch the video?
Im not rich but when i want something, i just make economies.. now i have a 2700 bucks pc after 1 year. Next time i will change something is maybe the gpu. It will be in 3 year. Like they sais, you must just change some parts of your pc, not the entire pc.
Sorry for my english, im from Switzerland
@@LeGrandMechantLu Yeah, agree with you. Also, no need to apologize for your english, I am not english either, but could understand what you meant :)
