Firefly series review

- Joss Whedon's unique vision of the future "Firefly" was created, aired, and cancelled over 10 years ago, but still remains a classic in the hearts of "Browncoats" to this day, and will for years to come. Jeremy finally reviews the short aired yet long lived cult phenomenon "Firefly". If you haven't seen the series yet, just give 16 minutes to this video to understand why you should...
If there's one thing I learned from Firefly it's that if someone tries to kill you, you try and kill them right back.
+BabyKrogan And it also taught people to be obnoxiously rude to their own friends and have no sense of humility or empathy other than how their friends can benefit you, and to also have a chip on their shoulders toward life just encase their pride was hurt from losing a fight.
PS: I don't like the Firefly series.
+starstone7 Um...ok then. O_o
+starstone7 what are you talking about?
@106101707362749982700 The characters in the entire Firefly saga including the movie, act and treat each other that way, and the writing in the show and movie literally tried to justify and defend that behavior as if it were somehow a good thing. The characters are all a bunch of narcissistic children in adult bodies with weapons, and most of their sense of kindness and humility was in the form of what could feed their ego and not make them "feel alone". When I saw the first trailers to it, I hoped it was going to be a live action version of Outlaw Star (I liked Outlaw Star), but it disappointed me with the character's so called "growth" and the show's annoying nerdy nuances (too nerdy for normal living and maturity), and I don't like that southern cowboy persona, it's annoying, sure Outlaw Star is "called" a western, but actually it's really more of a "street biker" story that turned into an amazing "Fifth Element" styled fantasy adventure story, and the main characters didn't even act like cowboys in that cartoon.
I tried to like Firefly and Serenity at first (trying to ignore the opening song lol), but it was so hard to do, the characters were so petty, narcissistic and full of themselves in the show and in the movie, and the writing was trying to justify and or glorify that behavior, the characters reminded me of the narcissists in my life, who verbally and physically abused me.
Plus, side note, most of the writing and concepts about psychology and physics in the show and movie are actually unrealistic, ironically I actually found the physics and human psychology more realistic in Guardians of the Galaxy than in the Firefly saga.
Outlaw Star was a story that Firefly and Serenity tried and *failed* to be (not that Joss Wedon even knew about Outlaw Star), but then I saw Guardians of the Galaxy, and that movie is so much better than the entire Firefly show and movie, Guardians had a lot more growth (humility, kindness as the *actual* main theme without that unhealthy "clinginess") than the Firefly saga and film, the writing in Guardians of the Galaxy actually defended things like humility a lot more than the writing in the Firefly saga and film, and preached against pride and vanity a lot more than the Firefly saga and film, it preached humility and kindness as morality. Guardians of the Galaxy is what made me satisfied, it is literally like a merging of Outlaw Star and the Fifth Element put together :).
PS, A fighting competition between the Guardians vs the Firefly crew= Guardians win by a light year.
starstone7 That's an unusual amount of hatred for a show that you didn't like that came out like 10 years ago and was canceled after one season...
"They didn't just cancel a show, they broke up a family"
:'( Oww..
I couldn't stop smiling... I loved seeing someone speak so passionately and excitedly about Firefly :)
+vivi_cho Same...I've watched this video about 15 times XD And this video is actually the reason that I watched firefly, and it's now my all time favourite show :D
Regular Review: About 5 minutes
FireFly Review: A Necessary 16 minutes
vivi_cho the theme song should be sung to fox
@@ryanwilliams9712 snap!
What was every character's secret. We obviously now know what Inara's, Book's and River's were but what were everyone elses.
I still hate Fox for canceling Firefly.
Vincent Nguyen we all still hate fox!!!!!!!!
In answer to "Warrant Officer Ripley," IQs did drop suddenly at Fox TV, which led to airing episodes out of sequence and preempting it for more profitable sports programs. Yep, Teenage Mutant TV Programmers were/are loose in the house of Fox, endlessly pursuing their 11-25 age demographic.
Me too
We all do we all do
This is still relevant.
A small tear rolled down my face while I watched this. I don't think we can stress enough how little justice there is in the world that this didn't even get a second season. 😭
+Tom Sproson it didn't even allow the show to wrap up its first season!
Serenity was the chance to wrap up some of the plot elements as best they could. As they pointed out, most cancelled shows don't get a movie.
I didn't reach the point of tears. But it's worth noting that for a few years I waited for Castle to end in hopes that Nathan Fillion might consider reprising the role of Captain Reynolds. Sadly, I think any chance of that happening ended when Ron Glass passed way. (RIP Detective Harris)
Goddamn STD got 3 seasons and thats garbage incarnate
2d 3rd 4th 5th 6th.........
Joss Whedon DID get his revenge on Fox in 2012, with a little thing called the Avengers.
***** Avatar would be the kids block.
+Aequitas 1995 I don't know that I would call that revenge.. Remember Joss had just come out of two very well received and long running series' Buffy and Angel. Fox did respect his talent but in my opinion not quite enough.
Lefty Hara Oh yeah- especially if they cancelled a series with so much potential after its first season.
Lefty Hara Problem is they didn't really respect him. Despite giving him the green light for the show, they did pretty much everything to make sure the show would fail. They opened it in the Friday night death slot, aired episodes out of order, told him the pilot was too long, giving him only a few weeks to write and film a new first episode. They didn't even air the last two episodes and if I remember, kept moving re-run times around or canceling them entirely for other programs.
Yeah, I remember. I was there.. Firefly was my favorite TV show that year which was really frustrating. Because it was at a time before DVR was common; I had to fish to try to see the show.. Working hard at it I still managed to miss some episodes that aired. Thank Joss for DVD that even had 2 episodes that never made it to TV.
River: "You’re afraid we’re going to die gasping. But we won’t. That’s not going to happen… We’ll freeze to death first."
I always loved her optimism. 😃
@@mr.2cents.846 Right? She was such a sweetheart. 🙂
firefly is the only show that physically pains me when i remember there is only one season of it's greatness.
*its (possessive)
it's = it is/has
alvallac21 really?
alvallac21 grammar nazi on a 5 year old comment? Lmao
True. It haunts the actors. They like to implement Easter eggs in other roles.
What was every character's secret. We obviously now know what Inara's, Book's and River's were but what were everyone elses.
goramit Fox. curse your sudden yet inevitable betreyal.
They did the same for Futurama... THOSE BASTARDS!
+The Whiteheart Don't know if it was inevitable or not but they sure fucked up.
+The Whiteheart *gorramit
Goramit lol 😂
and Arrested Development
Fun Fact: Zac Efron is in the show. He plays young Simon in episode Safe.
This is easily my favourite TV show of all time. Just perfect entertainment. Top notch dialogue, fantastic characters with great chemistry. Just perfect. And the music is just golden.
A Firefly game by Telltale is still the best idea I've ever heard
Nomad602 Oh my sweet fuck, NO! Don't ruin the franchise by aborting it into a four-hour QTE!
Ex Metu Veres you're an idiot.
He did continue them a bit...Comic books
Not any more
What was every character's secret. We obviously now know what Inara's, Book's and River's were but what were everyone elses.
"You're part of my crew. Why are we still talking about this?" - Captain Reynolds
My favorite episode of firefly is everything.
all of them \m/
OUT OF GAS! I understood ur commet btw
Me- You NEED to watch Firefly!!!!!
Friend- ok, I'll see.
Next day....
Me- Did you watch Firefly yet!?
Friend- No, I forgot/ didn't want to.
Me- ...................?
That was my daily routine for the last two months of school!
5 yrs ago I got a Trek buddy hooked on this just by watching it ;)
i am.forcing my partner to watch it now
And then when they finally do. They love it.
sadly i failed miserably on that front, my friends never watched the show and so, i remained alone in the darkness
I just bought this show at my local DVD shop and I'm watching the first episode right now I'm like an hour in so far and Jeremy so far you are 100% right this show is awesome
This series was awesome now I gots to find serenity and my life will be complete
Conman Reloaded Netflix?
Don't have it
Amazon?
I'm curious, did the DVD set go in the order that Joss wanted? Or the order that was aired? Is the first episode Serenity, or Train Job?
Wouldnt it be great if Netflix picked it up and the original actors quit all of their current projects to work on the reboot.
Yes, it would never happen though.
OCSleazy It would be amazing, but if you look at River then and now... It's impossible, and the fact we lost Wash and Book... ;(
In the reboot, i wouldnt mind if they acted like the movie never happened or they came up with a stupid reason and brought them back to life. Anything to get the show back!
OCSleazy
True. They could set it about 10 years after the film, to where Wash and Book aren't there and everyone's older than before.
Nice idea but Serenity was just too perfect of an end to Firefly, I miss it immensely too but that was the ending Firefly needed, and the one it fortunately got.
Jeremy: *mentions Wash*
Me: *cries*
How do reavers clean their spears? Put em through the Wash.
+DEEZ GUYZ why? why? why? why?
+DEEZ GUYZ Too fucking soon!
Well thanks for the fucking spoilers guys
8OBO8 came out in 2005 tho
Out of Gas, no question. Amazing!
The moment it got canceled I hated Fox ever since.
I've hated Fox for much longer. Firefly just cemented it.
Whedon: "Hey Fox, so um have you seen the Avengers yet? You know the biggest thing in 2012? Oh and will you be seeing Avengers 2? Yeah, sorry I can't make anything for you you know since you fired me. Well nice talking to you."
(Also the Firefly video game idea is f*cking awesome)
Super Super Hero Joss Whedon also gave Warner Bros. a script for a Justice League film.
They turned him down. But hey, Avengers.
And Whedon is said to be a....creative consultant, for want of a better term, on EVERY SINGLE MARVEL PHASE 3 FILM that's coming down the pipes.
Veritas 1995 WB accepted all of whedons scripts and they were in the middle of making many DC movies from different writers and directors; then came the tragedy.
Back then WB used to listen to fans quite a bit, but when the fans are complete bitches, moan and groan about every project, WB naturally closes the projects.
The game is here. It’s called the Outer Worlds.
"out of gas" was probably my favorite episode cause mal was usually a hard ass and near the middle of the episode he says something along the lines of "we all die alone" but by the end when hes on the doctors table and all his friends are there after saving them he asks them if they are gonna be there when he wakes up. fuckin great arc for him.
The only thing that comforts me is that I know the people who cancelled Firefly are going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.
To get something legendarily good shoved in your face and not see it, there's a special level of hell reserved for such people.
Nice throwback to "Our Mrs. Reynolds" there, Book.
Same goes to those who cancelled Stargate Universe, but they have a chance to revive it still tho.
Penny Lane why did it get cancelled? and also why doesnt it get recalled again? alot of people want to see the more of the series and there are alot of unanswered questions and open endings
ashmaan27 Obviously, these questions have been discussed over and over on the internet: www.quora.com/Why-was-Firefly-cancelled-so-quickly?share=1
There's somewhat of an official statement on the topic but I'm not sure if this is _that_ valuable in this case nerdapproved.com/news/former-fox-president-explains-why-firefly-had-to-be-cancelled/
Penny Lane "Former Fox President" isn't a valuable statement because what matters is it was canceled.
Damn so young haha 2019 and I'm still watching firefly videos... Sad? Maybe but I'm still flying!
"Out of gas" and "War Stories" were my favorite episodes.
War Stories was my favorite episode, too.
Add “Objects in Space” and “Ariel” to that
1) Out of Gas... It's a masterpiece. Three timelines intertwining with each other, yet one doesn't lose track of anything. 2) War Stories... a great episode has the best quotes of the entire series: River, "No Power in the 'Verse can stop me." Zoe, "Take me, Sir. Take me, hard." Mal, "Do you wanna know the real me?" Shepherd Book, "A Government is a body of people, , usually, notably ungoverned." 3) Safe: This episode deals with religion in a way that makes you think twice about your own beliefs and more. These are my two cents... lol
Jaynestown was actually my favorite episode.
Mine too. I guess this is what going mad feels like.
04nbod SON OF A BITCH.
04nbod
No... THIS is what going mad must feel like...
hehe-
I'll put it this way: I've sung the Hero of Canton multiple times in public. Because its great.
The Son of Suns it wasn't actually my favorite episode but Jayne was already my favorite character. The latest thing is that FOX said they would take up a renewal of the show- but only if they could get Joss. (Joss who is now supremely popular, respected, in demand, with all the Marvel movies) Not surprisingly, Joss said no. Sad, but vindicated.
Inara's secret was going to be that she had a terminal disease.
Simon: "I don't want to die [on this ship]."
Inara: "I don't want to die at all."
The more you know...
Wow...When revealed on the show, that would've crushed so many peoples hearts.
What she needed was a Kangen water machine.
I sometimes come back to this review because it perfectly encapsulates everything I love about Firefly. And then it just plain makes me sad that we never got more from the show.
Same, i just did it hahahaha
Fox Producer 1: Alright, which jackass' bright idea was it to cancel Firefly?
Fox Producer 2: Um...that was me, sir.
Fox Producer 1: To the snake pit with you!
Us Browncoats are so hardcore we would jump in the snake pit just to beat that guy up. Who's with me?!
I literally just started watching Firefly this week, I'd just seen so many awesome comments about it.
They weren't wrong.
I'm already bracing myself for the season finale, and the movie whcih I am totally going to buy, because this show has just anchored itself to my heart like no other.
It's funny, and sad, and scary. The script is just plain genius, the characters so likeable and the moral messages very interesting.
I couldn't recomment a series more.
Whatever kind of a person you are, give it a go.
You might be surprised :)
I just made my mom watch it. Why? Because she should, and when she neared the last episodes we both got so sad because we knew it was going to end soon.
Goddammit FOX!!!
What was every character's secret. We obviously now know what Inara's, Book's and River's were but what were everyone elses.
Every time I rewatch this show I start out thinking "I must be misremembering, it can't possibly be as good as I make it up to be in my mind" and every time it proves me wrong. It is an absolute masterpiece and no show has ever come close as my favorite.
It’s like a Muse concert in that regard (and Deadwood, the show).
Great review Jeremy...And whenever I describe something that's good but not gonna last..I say, "This thing is gonna be a Firefly" (yes that's an adjective now).
I too shall use your adjective.........if U don't mind......
Of course I don't...Makes me feel good :D
Wouldn't that be a noun?
right....you....are.....omit the 'a' then..."this thing is gonna be Firefly....
I wish I had you on every step of my life preventing me from getting embarrassed in useless situations :)
Just play the song of healing to obtain a mask that carries my spirit.
This show is PERFECTION!!!!!!
This video is the reason I actually watched Firefly...and it's now my favourite show of all time :D I owe Jeremy so fucking much!
YEAH About 50 times, fuckin' love that movie :D
awesome. now go watch Battlestar Gallactica. Jeremy gives a great review of that as well and that show as well is awesometacular. I love Star Wars, and I love Star Trek, but I rank both Firefly and Battlestar as my top 2 sci-fi worlds
I will haha that's next on my list, I'm midway through Star Trek: TOS right now, then next generation and battlestar
@@ryanwilliams9712 Got updates on how that went?
My favourite Episode of the series is Jaynestown. It made me like and care about a main char on the show, that before meant nothing to me. And it's also the deconstruction of what we think of heroes by also adding the fact, that we still need the idea of a hero. I enjoyed that episode so much.
Close second is Objects in space.
I have avoided this for years because it didn't seem like a good show and it being canceled so soon gave me the impression that it was not good. Browsing through shows on Netflix, I have decided to try it with my family. After watching the pilot, we just kept watching. It was so good. It had a relaxed atmosphere about it, but the stories were so intelligently written that they kept us engaged. Now that's good writing. No formulaic plots, twists and petty cliffhangers, just interesting scenes after scenes of realistic situations that kept us smiling all the way through. I highly recommend this show to anyone whether they like science fiction or not.
A leaf on the wind... *sobs*
...... watch me soar
dies
Too soon Doc, too soon.
It is seriously hard to pick a fave ep.
I particularly like Our Mrs Reynolds... oh, let's be honest: I particularly like all of them.
And Jaynestown is vital! Aside from being utterly hilarious yet heartrending, there are so many important subtle character moments such as Simon and Kaylee in the bar, and of course, it's hugely important for Jayne. Who is one of my fave characters and the basic poster boy for tv trope Hidden Depths. Without that episode, it would be easier to dismiss him as less nuanced than the others. I love how he is simplistic but far from stupid.
Gah! I love these characters so much!
And his maths were perfect. . .
Ten percent of nothing is-let me do the math here. Nothing into nothin’. Carry the nothin’…
What was every character's secret. We obviously now know what Inara's, Book's and River's were but what were everyone elses.
Out of Gas or Objects in Space.
Both episodes are brilliantly written with amazing dialogue and stories.
Almost 20 years later and it is baffling to me that this show was never picked up. If only it came out when social media was a thing.
Shindig is definitely my favorite. I've rewatched the series countless times, it's all gold.
Sadly, when I watch any kind of new scifi, I keep Firefly in my head. That show is the bar and very few have come close.
It's so wonderful to hear other people who love Firefly as much as I do talk about it.
Objects in Space was probably my favorite. The dialog throughout the whole episode was just gold.
Serenity is one of my favorite ships in scifi history. I like manual roll down hindows on cars, and pull toilets and some of Serenity's other features are the spaceship equivalent of manual roll down windows.
Since I started watching it in 2008, Dexter has been my all time favourite show, without a doubt... But, those 96 episodes of Dexter may actually be in contention with these 14 episodes of Firefly. I have never seen something that I would consider perfect before, but Firefly may have taken that distinction. I honestly cannot pick a favourite episode, as literally every episode is incredible. So, I do not have a favourite episode, I have a favourite series. Firefly is an experience that everyone should go through. Yes, I am only a recent fan, but it deserves to be called my favourite series.
***** love u bro could not have said it any better!
***** you cant say dexter is better then firefly
Dexter had some amazing seasons, 1,2,3,4 and 7, a great one in 5 too, but 6 and 8 sucked. Firefly is more resonant, let's agree on that.
***** That's a new one! Usually you get idiots saying that after the first 4 seasons it gets shit, but the first 3?! You're taking stupidity to a whole new level!
***** Intelligence is about perception; if you do a dumb thing, you might not be that smart. If you arrogantly proclaim that you're more intelligent than another, especially only over the basis of a disagreement of opinion, on one thing, you're not that smart. The overcompensation shown by taking out your thesaurus and sounding as pretentious as possible is yet another example of naivety; you don't know that what you're doing is making yourself look dumber than you clearly feel. That's not to say that naive people can't be smart, but too much of it, as demonstrated only in your 3 and a bit line comment, points to an ironic lack of intelligence.
But back to the point in hand, S4 is widely held to be the best season of the show and one of the best seasons ever made. Why is it that you think it goes downhill? Dismissing the upshoots that were S5 and 7 is bad enough, but 4? I want to see if you can justify that. Without your thesaurus if possible. I want to know why you think if differs from 1-3 so much, because personally, I think thematically, character wise, villain wise etc., it builds off of what came before and makes it all better than it's ever been.
Every time I watch this review I get teary-eyed. It's just so tragic that it got cancelled. I watch it all over again every year or few months and it is amazing every single time.
It sounds like this show feels a bit like Cowboy Bebop, sci-fi + Western= Space Western.
love me some cowboy bebop
I think it's time we blow this scene
Get everybody and the stuff together
Ok?
3, 2, 1:
Let's jam
Bebop was _already_ a space western xD .
But in general, yeah. If we had a live-action Bebop, which they've been trying to get off the ground for what feels like forever, it would definitely be Firefly. God, this show was so good.
Darth Jaulce I am about 90% sure that Firefly was STRONGLY inspired by Bebop
Darth Jaulce cowboy bebop
Jaynestown was my favorite. If it were cut out, I don't think I'd like Jayne nearly as much as a character. Up to that point, he was like Jeremy said, just a mercenary, but it was great to see how he acted when people actually expected something of him for what was probably the first time in his life, and he let them all down.
I'll be in my bunk.
Can you just picture how awesome it would have been if HBO had picked up the show after Fox
Nick DesRosiers Shiny!
You know HBO would of cancelled the show as well, burying its greatness along with Deadwood, Carnival, and Rome
Just found your review 7 years later. Huge fan of Fire Fly. You nailed it mate.
Jane: "Just don't tell them what I did."
*tears up*
Objects in Space. Best episode ever.
i really like Out of Gas
also i can smell the trolling
Although now that I think of it Trash is probably my second place favorite. A little Oceans 11 action, and the return of Christina Hendricks. Can't go wrong there.
Ariel was my favourite - mainly for the scene between mal and Jayne at the end.
bruce wayne I think it's fair to say there isn't really a single "bad" episode of Firefly.
I REALLY hope Telltale sees this idea. Get on it, Telltale!!!!
F*ck no. I want like a fully open world firefly game where you can play as Mal or any other character. In my a pinion telltale sucks
Tracy Jones That's just your preference, man. Some people enjoy games based primarily on story like the point-and-clicks of old, some don't. Just because you don't enjoy Telltale's games doesn't mean others won't. Live and let live!
True. No hate here
Tracy Jones Good on you! Rarely do you see such civility in comment sections. Thank you for that!
You're very welcome! Cheers mate ;)
almost cry when i hear the title song, loved this show so much, thack glod for serenity
Jayne is my favorite character of the show. He was so badass and funny, my favorite scene with him was when the crew saw that Inara's new client was a woman, the next morning as she's leaving they kiss, and when Inara turns around everyone's staring at her and Jayne is just smiling and nodding. That was pure gold
Just... WOW, *****. It's like you reached into my head and pulled out exactly how I feel about #Firefly. Time for - yet - rewatch...
Without Jaynestown you don't get to hear about the "Hero of Canton".
Joshua Night's King "Jane?""Yeah Mal?""You want to tell me why there is a statue a you here looking at me like I owe him something?" The writing was just awesome.
Excellent assessment of an excellent series populated by great characters. If I hadn't already watched it multiple times I'd want to.
My favorite episode is heart of gold. I know it has the most basic Western 101 plot out of all the episodes, but it is so good. And Jeremy, this review is what made me watch Firefly, and now it's one of my favorite shows. And now I'm telling everyone I know to watch it. You can't take the sky from me
I hate to admit this, and I know I'll be getting death threats, but the show was cancelled because of me. Any show I like is doomed to be cancelled within the first year. I'm so sorry. *weeps*
Kenneth Pryde Ah, it's not YOUR fault. Murphy's Law is to blame.
Kenneth Pryde
I always feel that too ha ha
I just finished watching the series! God daaammn, it was legit, also I liked your idea of making episodic games about it, that could be a great idea for shows nowadays that got canceled.
I come back to this review every once in a while to remind myself of the best scifi show ever made.
My favorite episode is "Ariel". You get to see how brilliant a doctor Simon is, get a glimpse of what the alliance did to River, and see how far Mal would go when his crew betrays him on a pretty deep level. You also get to see the depths the alliance would go through to get River back.
Out of Gas was AMAZING, but I'm always drawn to War Stories as well.... because I was like OH SNAP at least 7 times through that one. :D
Anybody else like Shindig?
mercy is the mark of a great man
*stabs him*
guess I'm just a good one.
*stabs him again*
I'm alright
ratguy101 stabs him a second time
well I'm alrigh
JackJyls oh yeah, it's it's alright not ok
One of my favorites :)
MisterGutsy108 Nice profile pic. Transistor is finally here!
I watched this show because you recommended it. Now, its one of my absolute favorites. Can't tell you how many times I've binged it, and how many times i will
Watching this in February 2021 because it popped up in my feed. It is so trippy to see a fresh faced, optimistic Jeremy!
Joss Whedon is just awesome! Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly, the Avengers... You got to love them all. I wish real people would speak like his characters do, so much creativity and playing with words. But I wouldn't want the recurring 'if you're happy something horrible is about to happen because being happy is not allowed' theme in my life.
And I think there is one flaw in Firefly: I liked that they used western weapons, but why? I mean, I get that laser weapons are unaffordable, but why guns from the 19th century? Even today nobody uses them, so it would make more sense if they would have used 'old' guns from the 21st or even the 22nd century, instead of ancient revolvers.
But honestly I don't care, the western style is just too good to be replaced by new technology.
I just saw Out of Gaz yesterday.
Brilliant. I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it.
Also, I can't choose between episodes. It would feel like ripping my heart to shreds.
Yes, I'm getting emotional.
Well done, Jeremy. Well done. Your reviews are so well crafted. Gives you a great feeling for what the show really is.
Couldn't agree more. TREMENDOUS SHOW in EVERY way. I still get mad rewatching the series.... but it doesn't last to long because I enjoy rewatching so much I forget to be pissed. Such a damn shame...
I am a massively huge Joss Whedon fan and Firefly is one of my favorite things on this planet!! This review was epic because you were so on point with everything. My fav episode was all of them! . . . . ok, ok, if I had to choose one, it would be "Out of Gas" too. Cancelling that show is one of the most tragic events ever! (Cancelling Dollhouse would be the next biggest tragic event, stupid Fox!!)
I'm also a massively huge fan of The Walking Dead and played the Tell Tale game of TWD and loved it of course. Your idea of making a Firefly game like that is awesome, I would line up for that! I don't line up for anything, I can always wait, but for this I would line up, I would camp out over night, whatever it takes!!!!
I really really enjoyed your review on Dollhouse as well. If you haven't as yet, can you please review Buffy the Vampire Slayer? (and a Walking Dead review) (please) (your reviews rock!!)
i watched everything, and im super thankful for this show. sad it was canceled :(
***** ... I have to let you know that I'm quite a fan of your movie reviews... Whenever I've watched something that I feel strongly about (either positively or negatively) you're one of my top youtube reviewers who I turn to to either reaffirm or challenge my opinion... but now i have to say finding that you have made this firefly series review... My hat's off to ya dude! *fist bump* ~ respect =)
Amazing. Even ten years after the end people are still so into the series. That's awesome.
"When you have a cult hit with cheese factor, you have GOLD" How on earth have you not reviewed Buffy The Vampire Slayer yet??? Even Joss said it was the best thing he's ever done....
Gotta love Firefly though. Excellent review.
True he does but most people consider Firefly his best work and Dollhouse his worst and Agents of Shield Average I guess.
Dollhouse was awesome though.
I'm pretty sure he didn't do Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. he gave that show to his brother to do
Dollhouse was alright.
Yes. Buffy is my favorite show of all time. Dare I even put it above The X-Files on my list. I wish we could have at least gotten a full 22 Ep season of firefly. Sigh.
Favourite episode is Out of Gas. Everything about it is amazing, but then again every episode (except the Pilot) is 10/10 Ariel is a close 2nd
The pilot is weird isn't it! When you first watch it you're like....okay? But I found the more I see it the better, and better it gets.
Tallulah Robinson Yeah if you're introducing the show to people, don't start with the pilot cos, you're right, it is a bit weird, it's almost a different tone. I usually show people Out of Gas first to see if they like it
Jeremy, I love you. Not only are you 100% correct but you explain this show better than I could and I am definitely sending your video to anyone who hasn't given Firefly a shot yet. If that doesn't do it, there's no hope for them lol.
Jeremy, with this review you won a subscriber. To this day how they could have cancelled Firefly is the thing I can't just wrap my mind around.
A man they call Jaaaaayne!
Out of gas! Definitely. One of the best shows of all time... Oh shi*, i go watch it right now... again! And again!
I've been subscribed for a while and didn't know why I liked you so much, this is why. Thank you Jeremy.
Thanks for the suggestion, Jeremy! I am currently on episode 12 and it was a complete blast, even if I'm not really much into TV series! And, as an added bonus, not only it reminds me of star wars, cowboy and Trigun (Vash anyone?) bepop but also of the game Tachyon The Fringe for PC, one of my fondest childhood memories. "I'm lost, I'm hungry, I'm armed" fuck yeah!
Best TV shows ever.
1. Firefly
2. Sherlock
3. Breaking Bad
I'll go ahead and add Daredevil on that list. (It can go anywhere, it's up to personal preference)
Firefly, Sherlock, Deadwood, The Wire, Fargo, Blackadder, Monty Python... Then Breaking Bad then Daredevil.
You spelled game of thrones wrong on number 1
Happy to see someone who likes MASH. Maybe I'm old but its getting harder to find people who've seen it. :(
I`m going to be meeting Morena Baccarin(the actress who played Inara) at fan expo Vancouver in a month.
Okay dude.. I will watch this show just based on how animated you were when you described it
This was so on point....I could cry after watching this. Literally, no words.
this sounds like a live action cowboy bebop and I'm going to watch it
You should it's very good
a lot of people say they are very similar and honestly that's motivation enough for me to watch the show
I never heard Jeremy talk with such passion about any movie, tv show or game before, and THAT'S WHY I'm not gonna watch the series, because there's no freaking way that I'm gonna be able to bare the disappointment of having a great tv show NOT have an ending.
Watch the show. Then watch the movie "Serenity" - which provides some closure. You won't regret it. (FYI - the original pilot episode was also called "Serenity" so don't get them mixed up.)
+Action Hero Well, my curiosity almost always wins, so I probably will watch it, but I'm still afraid of getting really disappointed.
Trust me, you should watch this, you won't be disappointed. Have I ever steered you wrong before?
Yes, you will be disappointed...no, disappointed isn't the right word. you will be sad with a tinge of anger, that it got cancelled before even a full season. BUT, you will not be disappointed that you've seen it. you will fall in love with all the characters, and you'll notice that it filled something that was missing in your life you never really knew you were missing(well, that's what happened to me when I watched it) I may even go watch it again tonight for my....5 or 6th time? I can watch it on Shomi but I bought it on Blue Ray because the series deserves my money.
+Michel Lacasse Yep, my curiosity got the best of me, so now I'm just waiting for the series to finish downloading :)
I literally bought firefly on blu ray because of this review and loved every second of it.
Glad I found your reviews. Spot on with both Firefly and Serenity, and the way you do them are funny as hell. Whatever you do, don't stop the signal!!
Is anyone reminded of Cowboy Bebop when they watch this show? I mean, the similarities are pretty close.
Cowboy bebop ftw
Yes. That is exactly what I thought. I'm sure he was inspired by the anime
its one of the main inspiratons
love both
Sounds like I need to watch that anime. Because Firefly is my favourite series
I wonder if Firefly wasn't cancelled would it still be a huge phenomenon.
Too bad that we'll never know. Personally, it may have surpassed Battlestar Galactica is my favourtie sci-fi.
Yes. Yes it would
Yeah, this is absolutely a flawless show. There aren't many - maybe no others - but this is definitely a perfect show, with no wasted episodes, no wasted scenes, not even a line of wasted dialogue. Every moment propels the story, the characters, or both at the same time.
He keeps saying it’s “10 years ago”
and I was thinking “no, it’s been a bit longer than that.”
Then I looked at the upload date as another 10 years. 20 total. Man I feel old and sad
If you liked this, check out the show "Freaks and Geeks." It was another almost perfect show cancelled to soon. The entire series is on Netflix now.
I tried getting through it, but I just barely made it through the first episode, it was just so dull.
***** You're dull
+Raver Reviews I loved Freaks and Geeks. Same kind of taste as That 70's Show
+Raver Reviews I loved Freaks and Geeks. Same kind of taste as That 70's Show
Freaks and Geeks is near perfection, and I dare say I enjoyed it more than Firefly. I group them together as those fantastic shows that were cut down in one season and desperately underappreciated.
Jewel Staite did not just gain 20 pounds. She gained 20 pounds of pure hotness. Also, I would buy the hell out of that Telltale Game.
I always thought to myself that I'd rather hook up with Kaylie than the other gals on the show but they were all beautiful, I love a girl who isn't afraid to eat a burger......with cheese and bacon!!!!!! And Kaylie is hot as hell in the show period.
What a nice and thoughtful revie-- and im watching firefly again. Thanks alot Jeremy.
been watching you a long time Jeremy...and not sure how i missed this review, but glad i caught it...yeah love how you just gushed excitedly all over Firefly, the best western in the 'verse! brilliantly written and acted...frak fox, frelling pieces of gossa! (longest review i've seen from you)
