I know this song is about banging in the Hollywood forever cemetery but; the video really ends up representing mortifying loss so well. This video helped me get through losing both of my parents young, this cinematography is exactly how I felt for years after.
This video moves me. Emotional break-downs are awful. And Aubrey portrays it so well. Father John Misty, you're fucking wonderful.

This whole album is bloody gorgeous. I fall in love with it all over again every couple years or so. As you can see I'm back now! ha. Probably the 5th winter I fell in love with Fear Fun again.

She represents my inner spirit 24/7. I love her
So my theory is that she's dead. I know "she was dead the whole time" is an overdone theory but hear me out. At the start she wakes up in the same place and position as she was at the end. She walks back to a house where there's what looks like a funeral- everyone is in black, there's funeral wreaths and flowers. Said funeral turns into a hipster rave later but whatever, artistic licence. She varies between attempts at physical intimacy and being violently disruptive. Why? Because she desperately wants to connect with the world of the living but she can't, because she's not supposed to be there. At the end she's collapsed on the road and she's back where she started, and Misty (who is barefoot, this traditionally being a signifier of Death) forcibly takes her away. It's not a perfect theory but I think it matches up.
This analysis really hits the nail!! I thought that maybe the funeral theme for the party, symbolises the ending of her relationship with the guy (FJM), and the girl with the pearl necklace is his new girlfriend. Whom she attacks and kills in anger (probably a drug or alcoholic fantasy/dream). Then her ex-boyfriend finds her lying on the street after the party, where she acts desperat and angry for him leaving her. - But her being dead makes more sense with the description of her seeking intimacy and attention in the living world!

Pleaseeee check out the Swedish band Goat!!! One of the best rock bands of all time in my opinion. The guitars are hyper dimensional wildcats. World Music (their first album) or Fuzzed in Europe (unfreakinbelievable live album) would be a good place to start but everything they do is just incredible. That band is a message from the Soul of the Earth for humanity to rediscover its true nature. Much Love to you!

This song proves that intentionally crappy guitar and drum sounds can only elevate the fact that this song is well crafted and arranged. (And that no studio tricks will make your song a better song) It’s like the song was made to sound like a dream: muted and sublime. Relentless yet groovy looping drums that worm into your brain, ONE harmonizing chorus tease! This song cuts into an internal feel like butter. Suddenly cutting off when you want it to keep playing over and over. Pulling the plug so we come back for more. I’m obsessed. Brilliant songwriting!

There was a time in my life when I was a crazy underage club kid and acted similar to wild-Aubrey Plaza. Very lucky to have never picked up and diseases or physical illnesses (nobody could've gone through what I did without picking up a few mental ones, though). Very lucky to be alive, tbh. I have just really found Fr John (I'm late, I know) and just found Aubrey in one of his vids about 8 minutes ago now.
I didn't think I could love either more. Yet here we are.
Better late than never. I still listen to this song on repeat every few months. Chateau Lobby #4 is my other fave of his, but there are many great ones. He also has a band called Fleet Foxes. You should def check em out if you haven't 🌻
