The variety of wepons, especially the melee ones, in this game is lovely, unfortunately here dont exist an item forge like all the others age of wonders games, that would be amazing, i still have hope and faith in Planetfall 2, or as i like to call it, Orbitfall!
However Sir, check whatever units skills list, there you can find a big green icon called "sickened" that probably will explains the effect of the Omega Strain of the Doomsday Weapon

In my game, i was playing the 1st Syndacate mission campaign (thirdultimate from the full main campaign end) and choos to go for doomsday victory, but unfortunately my timer to win was not reset but completely canceled by and AI army that took and absorb the colony wher 1 of my doomsday tower were in, so i think you will reser his counter once you will finish razimg that colony
PS in your nevix colony switch thos useless energy colonist onto food production to counter the starving

P.S. One assumes the AI are losing POP as well due to Omega? Why are they not, seemingly, trying to knock out an Omega Site????

You need to raze the doomsday construct just like you would a city I think to stop it. Just stepping on it pauzes it as long as you're standing on it.

I did figure this out. I think it's weird that it still functions when they no longer control the colony.
