  • Pileated woodpecker parents feeding chicks and juveniles at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida. Chicks stay in nest 26-28 days and juveniles continue being cared for by parents for another 2-3 months. They use a variety of calls, territorial and danger warnings. The young can even be "chatty" with parents, especially when they're wanting more food.

Pileated woodpeckers are gorgeous birds, I just love them! The cute babies with their bright red haircuts keep their mom and dad busy. I find they are quite friendly birds. A huge one would visit my mom's place all winter long. I don't know if it was a male or female. Mom put seed and suet out for the birds and the big Pileated woodpecker would demolish the suet and take huge chunks of wood out of her post. My mom could sit out on her front deck and talk to him/her and the big bird would only be a few feet away. It was really cute to see. Thank you for another wonderful video, it brought back some happy memories. I hope you have a great day! 🌴🌴🌴🌺🌺🌺

What a wonderful story about your mom and her pileated woodpecker friend. They are so beautiful and amazing to watch. It's so interesting to see them scoop out termites from rotted wood with their needle-like tongue. I'm delighted to learn that this video brought back happy memories! 😁 Enjoy your day!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video - thank you for watching! All offspring are so innocent and vulnerable, needing the care of one or both parents - always a joy to watch it happening! Happy day to you too! All the best!
