Bful. With my long arms I catch people in cradles all the time coach but I never know what to do. I just hold them n rest. They don’t do anything to me but I just stall. Thank you!!
There are definitely some good submissions off of cradles. Check out Neil Melanson and Blackout Grappling, some of the best resources on cradles for submission grappling.
Cradles are OP. They're pins, passes, and sub set-ups all in one. Learning to move between nearside and farside is the first step. Cromag and acid bath are the basic passes. Still Rollin has a good video on transitioning from near to far to back. It'll click more as you play with it.
The cradle is a fantastic underutilized tool in JiuJitsu. It's a somewhat low cost energy to maintain, easy to make it miserable for your opponent by just trying to put their knee to their face, since the knee in face and position is uncomfortable they often react strongly and more predictably making it an easy way to set up a ton of great moves on both upper body (darce, anaconda, guillotines) and lower body (kneebars, inside ashi, and the backside 5050 entry he shows here).
