Still probably horrible. I think even Formula engines and performance motorcycle engines don’t go beyond 20k rpm because of things like centrifugal force and valve float

Imagine if it had a pressurized oil system, a balanced rotating assembly, and was designed for 50k rpm.. Let's go to your real cars, and try to achieve 50k rpm.
Not even supersportbikes can achieve amything close to 30k, how should you get to 50k? Mechanical stress is very high.
It's not experiencing the same stresses as a real engine, so it will never act like a real engine. It's being driven, it's not worrying about valve float, ring seal, ignition, etc. If you put a supplemental oil system on an actual I/C engine and drove it with an electric motor it most certainly could withstand a ton more than if it was actually firing.

I remember tearing down $50 VW motors to learn the ropes and having a blast with actual cars for about the same money as that kit. Ah, the good old days

Kev, I reckon put the ripper up against a .21 engine for a laugh. Calculate the gear ratio of nitro spur and pinion so they have a fair chance against each other, I am guessing maybe 2:1 ish? Easy project and lots of fun. Give the nitro motor a fair chance with a desk fan and see what blows first. I reckon a few dead clutch shoes before 1 lets go

As far as lubrication goes, choose one with the highest heat capability or flashpoint. So, Vaseline being a petroleum distillate will probably be the best choice.

Thanks for showing that motor. I may get one. Cote the parts in Moly Lube which is a new engine parts lubricant that you put on motor parts as you're installing them. That will give them better lubrication than what you had put on them.
Did any engine heads in here felt weird seeing them use hair product for lubing😅🤔 or is it just me

50k rpm is the no load speed, or kv×voltage. Loaded it's probably no where near that, would be interesting to see what kind of rpm it gets turning the model engine. Cheap optical tachometer from hobby king and a piece of tape would get that info.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoy these type of videos from you guys. That is a really cool model. Glad you got some failure out of it but also able to keep it for the shelf. 👍

Thats why an diesel engine is much more durable than a Gas engine. High RPM will always tend to wear out faster, a diesel engine will last forever if you know how to use it. Except you're a trucker.

Yes, it has 50,000 RPM. But there's not a lot of torque associated.
If there's a lot of speed, there's not a lot of torque.

The "Ripper" motor you had didn't win because of all the weight and rotating mass associated with the 4cyl.
ripper couldnt finish the marathon so it lost. force to finish the marathon and we'll see if it can handle. do it!

But I belive the build won this one, it took the abuse quite good.
Out of all of those, petroleum jelly makes a horrible assembly lubricant, and canola oil is found to be an industrial solvent. Olive oil will give you that lubrication without goin everywhere.
