This is great to know. 8 years is a long time. Thanks for your comment. As prices of high end watches are rising constantly, I should try out a G-Shock steel as well ;-)
Thanks Ryan. Yes, I agree. You do not need to pay any attention, the G-Shock is the perfect GADA watch. But still enjoy to wear more expensive watches. A mechanical watch is a kind of magic that fascinates me.
G-Shock came out with an Updated version of this watch. The difference is very small. I was told they changed the colour of the back light and added easier time zone swapping or something like this. Other than that there are no differences. With most G-Shock especially the rugged ones the buttons are a bit tough to press. This is two avoid accidental button pressing. I have a number of different types of G-Shock watches. They are great!
This watch is almost perfect. If I could change just one thing about it, I would make the audible beep louder, like the 5600. I do understand the reasoning behind it, because it’s solar powered. I’m hoping one day that we will get a louder chime.
I have a big Casio collection. Love them! These retro Casio models are the best! I really can't find anything to dislike about it! Perfect legendary watches! I advice everyone to grab one while you can still find them brand new on the market! I have it in negative display version also. Perfect for day to day use in any conditions etc! Cheers and stay safe. 👌 😉
Totally agree! Still wear mine several times a week. I like the one with the negative display, too. Was not an easy decision to get the classic one or the one with the negative display back then. Let's see if I add one more to my collection :) Thanks for commenting.
@@watchspirit you should buy the negative display version also! It's just perfect and the light is amazing! You won't regret it! I love these retro clasic casio watches! I'll never sell them! Cheers and stay safe 👌 😉 🍻
#1)The Casio G-Shock is the watch I have at my house front door (GW5610) cabinet bowl where I keep car/house keys, coins and wallet. At the back door I have a (GW6900) cabinet bowl and hook where I keep the house key & dog walking leash. Of the many watches I own, these get the most wear time. #2)then Citizen Eco-Drive diver & field watches #3)sadly, the mechanical dive and dress watches are the least worn.
Thank you for your comment @ Anna Polis. I also have my Casio G-Shocks lying right on a dresser next to the front door as they are my grab n go pieces. Haven't had a chance to try the Citizen Eco Drive yet, but have read a lot about it. Should be next in the line as soon as I feel I need to buy another grab 'n go piece ;-) Too bad your mechanical and dress watches hardly get any wear time. My tip: Just put them back in the rotation every now and then/on a regular basis and enjoy them. Would be a shame, that's what they were built for. I make sure that I wear my mechanical watches a few times a week at least - definitely in the office.
Just in case, the new version is the GW5000U-1, that one is for $300.00 USD in the USA. It has just a few tweaks here and there in the module and display like the date and hour display in different modes. Significant aditions: is Tough Solar and Multiband 6 with a screw back in ion-plated black and softer premium resins for case and band.
@@watchspirit I collect digital Casio's with positive display, solar and multiband 5/6. And some with tide and moon. Most of my watches are set correctly :-))
Such a great watch. Sure, it’s nice to have dress watches for formal occasions - but for most situations, this comfortable but near indestructible watch with perfect time keeping and huge battery life is the only one you need. Yeah - the buttons are awkward, but that’s not a real downside for me - apart from the light, I hardly ever use them.
Thanks a lot for your comment, Bruce Bush. For daily wear, I do agree. When I am wearing my G-Shock, I do not care about my watch at all. It just works fine. It feels completely different when I wear my mechanical watches. I do not like scratches on my watches 😉although it is part of the watch journey. Anyway, I like the special feeling of wearing formal watches. The buttons - I use the stop function regularly...
The radio signal in Denver, Colorado, USA, covers a majority of Canada, all of Mexico and all the way down into Central America, parts of Cuba, not just lower 48 USA
@@watchspirit you very welcome, my pleasure! The module I'm talking about is 3495 instead of 3159. For sure you'll find on internet explained the differences between these two.👍
After me the U version is a downgrade... The led light is from the left corner.. Uneven bright.. The fact that you can switch the date format it is just a gimmick. Added a few tine zones and remove some. For a higher price! So the original gw-m5610, after me, is perfect! With the retro A.EL all screen green/blueish even light it's perfect! I repeat. For me. 👌 😉. Ps: the count down timer etc are exactly the same {nor better or worse lol}. The only thing: you can see the hour on the display when you use them in the U version, but you will lose the total hours time in use. {how it is in the original non U model}. So it's a matter of taste like I said. I personally love the old model. 👌.
I have a GMW 5000D model in a steel case, 5610 is a watch with a worse display, when the clock deviates, all segments of the numbers are visible, on 5000 this is not at all.
@@watchspirit I don’t know how it is with prices there, but in Russia, paying 50 thousand rubles for a watch for many is just a high price, but if you don’t feel sorry for the money, take the 5000 model, the watch is super, not everyone here is ready to wear such, they for a big fan.
I've had this watch for the last 8 years. Never had a problem with it. I liked it that much I bought a G-Shock Steel .. :)

Mine is 10 years old, still going strong.
That is great to hear!!
I own this watch too. Love everything about it, such a classic.
Ok, I agree regarding the buttons though haha
@ Haha...yes, fully agree. Thanks for commenting, Lars Söderberg.
Gshock is alot useful compared to any expensive dress watch.
Thanks Ryan. Yes, I agree. You do not need to pay any attention, the G-Shock is the perfect GADA watch. But still enjoy to wear more expensive watches. A mechanical watch is a kind of magic that fascinates me.

What is the model number of the new updated version? I didn't know that

Great review. I am awaiting delivery of a WGM5610-1 (I suspect by the photos it's actuallyaWGM5610u). Can't wait to experience it.
Thanks Paul! Glad you enjoyed it. Have fun with your new watch :)
@@watchspirit It’s a wonderful watch. Thanks!
Best watch ever. All of the full metal versions have bigger buttons.
Good to know. Thanks, Stoic Student.
On the updated model (gmw 5610u) the bezel is subtly improved making the buttons easier to use.

Kyaw Nyi Soe. Thanks for your comment :) Great choice! Enjoy your new watch.
A lot of watch guys use a multiband G-shock to set their other watches.

I think it’s supposed to be difficult to depress the buttons. I have to use my fingernail for this model and others.
Thanks for commenting, 1920s. I try to not use my fingernails too often. A few times, I used a pen. it works, too.
how does this compare with he U version
In U version can switch the date format
Different light (LED), full auto light, better countdown mode, time display in stopwatch and countdown timer mode
