If I’m not mistaken, this is one of the cops who helped me get my car unstuck in the snow one night when I was delivering door dash. Both cops were really cool.

Yep. Business owner had a great opportunity to promote his socks business and create good-will to millions of potential customers. The internet retail market is huge. To wit: Amazon. He had the opportunity to sell millions of socks and profit millions of dollar had he just casually advertised his socks business in a friendly business conversation with the cameraman. Sadly, he could not control his nasty belligerent personality from surfacing. So many business fail not because of bad merchandise or faulty business model, but due to the business owner’s stupidity, antagonism, belligerence, or arrogance.

When the owner of the store asked the guy if he was filing any other stores, he said, “No, just you”. No one else pick up on this. He made it weird for no reason. And if the guy didn’t want him in the doorway of his store, why not just get out of it. It seems like there might be more to this we aren’t seeing. Did a customer say something to the owner? Who knows. It didn’t need to escalate to this.
Yeah I was thinking about that exact statement too. Sure the owner is defensive and seems to be on edge but after showing off his socks I thought they had come to some kind of mutual vibe check. A way to kinda reset the whole tone of the conversation. He then asks a fair question since he probably just wants to know what is going on and what they are doing but instead of answering honestly the cameraman has to retort with a snide comment. Of course it doesn't excuse anything the owner does afterwards but clearly they had opportunities to de-escalate the conversation but they chose not to. The camera man is within his rights and doesn't technically owe the guy an explanation and the owners defensive attitude isn't really warranted but you can still be the bigger person and try to not actively piss people off either. I used to manage a retail store. I had a female employee try to assult me, I backed up around an isle as she pursued me, I quickly took her down but I was careful to prevent her from banging her head on the ground during the take down. She called the cops and lied to them trying to play the poor victim card, she claimed I trapped her in a back office, just one problem was the video cameras caught everything. The crazy thing was when the cops first got there they were ready to arrest me, they looked at me like they didn't believe what I was telling them until it hit me the cameras likely captured everything, needless to say once I showed the cops the video the cops whole demeanor changed and they pressed charges on her and I was treated with respect by the cops. Video never lies folks.

I’m a full time professional documentary filmmaker - I work in developing countries around the world. What you did is utterly shameful. You go into a small town, don’t explain anything to the locals, interrupt everyone who talks to you. And then aggressively put yourself into the guys door way, and *mace him in the face* when you pushes your camera away. Cleared out his store. At no point did you do anything to deescalate. Shameful and hurts real filmmakers. And then you press charges, and say you want him taken away in cuffs…
That clip of him pushing your camera away is not assault and didn’t even break the gimbal (I have the same one and it disengages when the motors are pushed) Maybe read the manual next time. The whole town can see what dick you’re being.

When the owner of the store asked the guy if he was filing any other stores, he said, “No, just you”. No one else pick up on this. He made it weird for no reason. And if the guy didn’t want him in the doorway of his store, why not just get out of it. It seems like there might be more to this we aren’t seeing. Did a customer say something to the owner? Who knows. It didn’t need to escalate to this.
Yeah I was thinking about that exact statement too. Sure the owner is defensive and seems to be on edge but after showing off his socks I thought they had come to some kind of mutual vibe check. A way to kinda reset the whole tone of the conversation. He then asks a fair question since he probably just wants to know what is going on and what they are doing but instead of answering honestly the cameraman has to retort with a snide comment. Of course it doesn't excuse anything the owner does afterwards but clearly they had opportunities to de-escalate the conversation but they chose not to. The camera man is within his rights and doesn't technically owe the guy an explanation and the owners defensive attitude isn't really warranted but you can still be the bigger person and try to not actively piss people off either. It's like you said, when he said "No, just you" that basically settled it right there.

I used to manage a retail store. I had a female employee try to assult me, I backed up around an isle as she pursued me, I quickly took her down but I was careful to prevent her from banging her head on the ground during the take down. She called the cops and lied to them trying to play the poor victim card, she claimed I trapped her in a back office, just one problem was the video cameras caught everything. The crazy thing was when the cops first got there they were ready to arrest me, they looked at me like they didn't believe what I was telling them until it hit me the cameras likely captured everything, needless to say once I showed the cops the video the cops whole demeanor changed and they pressed charges on her and I was treated with respect by the cops. Video never lies folks.

I’m a full time professional documentary filmmaker - I work in developing countries around the world. What you did is utterly shameful. You go into a small town, don’t explain anything to the locals, interrupt everyone who talks to you. And then aggressively put yourself into the guys door way, and *mace him in the face* when you pushes your camera away. Cleared out his store. At no point did you do anything to deescalate. Shameful and hurts real filmmakers. And then you press charges, and say you want him taken away in cuffs…
That clip of him pushing your camera away is not assault and didn’t even break the gimbal (I have the same one and it disengages when the motors are pushed) Maybe read the manual next time.

Great cops! Love to see cops defending the correct people in these situations. The camera guy and his son are very nice to the people wherever they go.

These people, locals included, really showed their true colors when a situation arose. In a supposedly upscale area, many proved to be just as petty, ignorant, agressive and intolerant as anybody, regardless of race and economic standing.
