Hi Sandy, just watched this episode on my night shift and as usual very enjoyable and informative viewing so thanks for that. My Jetboil flash stopped working recently when I was on a solo WC near the top of Pen Y Fan, so rather than spend the night there with a cold all day breakfast and a bottle of lucozade decided to bugger off home. I found a site that sells just the burner assembly for the JB which halves the price of getting a new one but in the meantime have been thinking of getting a Trangia to try out, possibly the mini to start with.... 21 bucks at Millets for a bomb proof piece of kit...can't go wrong really...anyway thought I'd share that with you lol. ATB, Mark :)
Great video Sandy and I've decided that from this video I'm going to start watching as soon as you have upload. I'm still going to watch the older one's but there's so many it will take ages so at least by watching the latest video's I'm kinda up to date😁👍

I'm sure your a very busy man but when you got the time check out one of my video's I recommend a recent one the high willhays snow camp I think you might enjoy it I got a couple of snow storm timelaps there to😁👍
On the back of your little clover chat, I've ordered something I think you'll like, so PM me your address. Also, I can't wait to come camp in Wiltshire now I see what you eat at home....which is slightly better than the cup a soup and sardines out on the moor, lol
I will probably plan a two nighter here in Wiltshire Si. One night stealth wildcamping upon the high ground and the second a bushcraft style camp in my permission woodland. Will be after the Ridgeway walk so probably late April/ Early May? Will invite a small selection of good friends too but it will have to be kept small for stealth reasons. Will PM you later. Sandy
I love seeing Elsa in your videos, she reminds me of my childhood dog "Smoky". I am aware from watching your more recent videos that she has passed on now. I am 71, and have been afflicted by "Cronic Fatigue Syndrome" for thirty years , but by watching your videos makes me feel Iike I am able to do what I could before then, even though I am older. Thanks Nora, Yes sadly Elsa has now passed on, she was such a beautiful dog and ideal for taking camping. I now have two new dogs, Carmen and Zeta, both are rescue dogs, though they will never replace Elsa I love them just the same:)
I can vouch for meths being difficult to light when cold. In Canada in the winter below -10c it becomes very inefficient unless very well insulated from the cold and -20c it’s not worth using it. There is a pre-heater attachment from Trangia for use in the very cold but for me I tend to cook on a fire at those temps as it provides warmth and a place to cook. Thank you for the great video, reminds me of home :) best wishes Michael & Esme (the dog)
Got to always put the welfare of my dog first John) That sleeping bag cost me $250 and I don't mind if ny dogs makes it's dirty. Just so long as she stays warm:)
We had to kick our Dachshund out of our bed when he turned 8 years old. He started snorning like an old drunk homeless person. We put him in the corner with an old blanket of ours.
Brilliant. Really enjoyed watching that Sandy, the sound of the birds in the morning was lovely to hear. A great adventure. Great stove as well. Top viewing. Thank you Sandy for some good wholesome outdoors viewing.

This very important phenomenal bushcarft channel and the video he’s makes are great way to help people with learning their bushcraft skills and amazing activities and to be education about outdoors and wildlife and wildness and I am glad to support this amazing man and his experience exciting bushcraft channel and it a great one for RUclips 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀 him and jo are best role model for us learning from
Great night out sandy, out of curiosity what brand meths do you use and how big is your fuel bottle and do you recommend it,just bought a trangia stove last wk-end all the best and looking forward to your bike packing trip 🚴🏻⛺️👍
yeh it's a strange phenomenon how many lovely old cottage's/house;s mysteriously decide to burn them selves down in the middle of the night,it sure is!.
Modern dwellings are poorly built and a darn eye sore! Oh and people need bigger houses to store more of there ever growing stuff! People can't live small and enjoy the nature surrounding them...
wauw, that ancient monument is just awesome; old things have a soul, i think your knives, manmade as they are, have it too, gotta order one i think, i like the way you set up your camp. Great against the wind. I have seen everyone called you Sandy, no Jack, my mistake.
Love my Trangia ul as well! Such a versatile cook kit but a little heavy but when you think what it contains it's not so bad. Food looked nice and doggie happy in your bag lol! ATB Rob
Hi Sandy; good to meet you Joe. The countryside in your part of the world sure is beautiful. It always looks cool and damp Very interesting. Love the history. I get lost in thought when I see places like this. Your shelter and campsite look comfy. Even a washing station. Great hoop bevy with hoop. No thermosrest mat for Joe tonight!. Hearty meal for you guys. Happy Easter. Peace, Ken
Happy Easter Ken, We have had such a cold and damp winter you would not have enjoyed it much with the raynaud's syndrome but warmer months are ahead now. I can't wait:) Sandy
Thank you Sandy, the lovely Elsa and Joe who is almost as lovely for this marvellous Easter treat :) Great food and a beautiful dawn chorus to wake up to. Nature embraces us when we embrace "it" :)
how have you found the trangia pans hold up long term? i have one of the swedish army mess kit's and i like it apart from the top pan with the handle gets red hot when you try and lift it off the stove. i have found that my burner when it is full of fuel lets off gasses and taints my pots so have had to store it separate from my cook pot. me and a friend had a good over night camp in a local secret spot, we had a great night with a fire and some cider. thanks for sharing your experience.
That is a great piece of information about the clover. Nature is more fascinating than anything created by man, that's for sure. It's good that you don't have a problem with meth and use it all year round but I hear it is a huge problem in the trailer parks of the USA, lol Nice set up with that hooped bivi and the dawn chorus is an awesome thing to hear. We get a cracking one at our place due to the range of birds.
Hi Rich, dawn chorus has always been something I love to hear even since I was a very young boy. Now I am totally deaf in my left ear but the right is still good so I can still hear the birds and even the skylark. What was that about meths in the US trailer parks? I guess they are drinking the stuff??
lol, they probably do drink meths but it was meth I was referring to which is a slang name for a chemical drug running rampant through the US. I'm not sure why they need it though as all their doctors seem to be registered drug dealers who hand out barbiturates like smarties.
Nice film, always makes me laugh people saying the trangia is no good in the cold ...err made in Sweden that sub tropical country near the Arctic circle...
I started on the hard stuff (hexamine blocks) in the cadets back in the 70s, and my backup backup cooker is still a UK hexy stove, but my EDCook set is a Trangia 25 with gas adaptor, and backup alcohol burner. A man's gotta have his cuppa, come what may. The clone gas adaptors are very good, and only cost about £10-12, rather than the £40+ for a genuine Trangia one.
Nice tarp config Sandy. I got the same one - from the same people, which I had on our camp. In fact it was really good to see that village again. I did enjoy that. Nature is amazing! Thanks for the stories and knowledge and that great dawn chorus. Even better was that quick undo of the knot. What knot was that? Good going Sandy - have a great week. Mark
Hi Mark, The knot is called "The Farrimond friction hitch" One knot really worth knowing:). Yes the tarp is the same as yours. After seeing yours on our Bivi camp I decided to buy one and very well pleased I am with it too:) Mark, nature is amazing. It's more than amazing and I think bigger than anyone knows! Sandy
Just found your channel. Great content and I’ve just bought a Trangia 27 duasol, can’t wait to get out and try it. Seriously tempted to get a Dutch hooped Bivvi . Keep up the good work
Never had any issues Alan. Maybe just shake the crud out every now and again and once in a blue moon give the burner a qucik clean with hot water and a scrubbing brush.
Great video Sandy. Funny how you took you Trangia UL 27 out with you as I have just been looking at on of these. As I have mentioned a few times, not a fan of buying gas cans, to much waist therefore not environmentally friendly, plus after my recent failure with my Primus stove in the snow! I’m not sure if it was you that told me this will work down to minus 40 degrees C. Liking the clean section of calk path but I didn’t like the look of that bogie section, that could play havoc if I do plan to wear trainers! See you soon, Ant 😉
Regarding the walk Ant, prepare for the worst but hope for the best! April can be a funny month! Trangia 27 is a good cooker, not super light weight though but got for a "Happy camp". You me and Si will have to get a Good ol Wiltshire camp in soon. Joe Noel and anyone else is welcome to join us:))
A long and perfect video. Thank you it was great. Superb high definition. I have the hooped bivvy and my jack Russell sleeps in the hooped head end very happily. I made her her own sleeping bag from and old sleeping bag and sewed a foam mat into the bottom. It rolls up for transport great.
Nice wild camp, nice set ups, I always use trangia or lixada alcohol stove now. Cooked all kinds on it. Hardly ever use gas now. Cracking video as always ⛺👍
Hi Sandy just watching a few of your old vids.. Sorry for your loss this week how very sad. My thoughts are with you at this sad time. I hope you find comfort on your next trip out. May your memories of him burn bright in your next camp fire. Atb John. W Sussex.
Nice little trip! This past winter I used my Trangia stove in cold weather. Yes, I'd definitely say that it took a bit of effort to get the alcohol to light, but this was at around -15 to -20 C. In warmer temps I can light up the burner with a ferro rod.
No mat to sleep on, I am surprised he can even walk. If it were a pine forest at least there would have been the option of a branches and grass bed (a birds nest bed) for a poor ngts sleep, rather than a no ngt sleep. great video again Sandy. Thank you.
ive left it perm on my msr now as it increases the length duration in time of the pre burn prime!! the trangias are far less problematic and its only if they are extremely hot burner reservoir blows out or expires or you get strange atmospherics air pressure issues at alt that ive ever encountered a problem? as long as there is vapor there is a flame i find the fresher the fuel helps also aswell as lab ind or clear colored ind quality meths can burn a tad hotter than the usual purple dyed fuel! so i try to get ind stuff if i am able too in scotland you used to have to sign the poisons register of 1962 to obtain meths cuz so many scots drink it often at boots!! the chemists having homeless parties! as they wait in the queue! i remember queueing with them just to top up on my supplies after running out on skye once kyle of lochalsh never had any fuel so i had to bunk a br train all way to inverness and back again to skye cross ferry with only 1 bottle of fuel which i had to convince pharmacists in inverness was for my camp stove and not to drink!! they eventually relented after full on interrogations by 5 staff!! spotlight to my face job!!
Prime spot you guys found there Sandy...those Laurels come in handy for us stealth campers for cover. Elsa looked lovely and toasty once you'd set up, lovely companion. And that curry...looked lovely ;)
Wonderful trip and a nice amount of information in this video! A really nice piece of land. From my time in England i have the nicest memories from my backpacking time.
OMG how fantastic. We went there as part of a school outing to Uffington castle and the white horse roughly 35 years ago from 2020. Great to see it again. :-)
in europe meth is easy to find but you can put a beer can instead of the trangia burner to use one of the new gel (or solid) fuel instead. seen the trangia gel burner? you can use too a gas burner for it. this timeless design has still a lots of use
Poor little Elsa was pooped by the time you got to the site, she couldn't wait for you to set up a bed for her. They love their adventures no matter how old they are, but they just can't do as much when they get to an age. Nice video, thank you very much!
Could you tell me where I could read about your specific example of mycelium pathway symbiosis with plants? (Eg: over-grazed clover communicates to other clover to produce hormones to limit sheep reproduction). I tried to find more about this myself but haven’t had any success. I did find out that sheep who graze constantly on red clover can become infertile for a period or always.
@@WiltshireMan When I sent your video to my aunt, she said that she'd heard about something similar. She wrote me: "I have heard about trees doing something similar that controls their predators populations." She too couldn't remember where she read this. She said she thought the trees were maybe oaks or pines(?). The tree will produce lots of nuts/etc one year but when predator populations grow, will have consecutive years of low production.
When I pack the pot grabber across the top of the kettle I have noticed a slight impression in the fry pan. I have put a disk cut from a thin plastic lid to protect it. I guess the strainer disk would have been a good idea. In the 25 series the handle will fit in the kettle I believe.
just as an addendum to that about lady astor the peoples of plymouth were built & awarded a seaside lido on the hoe as a thankyou by the council for spending so many long hard years on cleaning up the city after it got blitzed the peoples had been perm covered in brick dust and rubble most houses never had good plumbing so the council decided towards the end of completion of clean ups after the blitz to give the ord hard working peoples of plymouth somewhere they could wash all the brick dust off themselves bathe after a hards days labor everyday for years clearing away all of the rubble!! many of the destitute families that came seeking advice or help directly from lady astor herself were invariably fixed up by her influences social with a new council property or alternative solution by the ends of the same day!!! whitsands bay cliff dwellings started out as a citizen refugee sanctuary after the blitz! now it seems as if we have now got the enemy running housing policies from westminster!! now we have got no chances of getting any sort of practical help today!! from anyone anywhere? so please tell me? which era was better at the ends of the day? :) at least some of hoi poloi had a heart in them days id not like to take the same homelessness chances today!! theyd give you a number tell you to sit down cuz the computer says no!! :( bus you out the city on a one way tkt to an unwanted immigrant ville!! like southend on sea or dover!! youd have to give up yer family friends & only job in this heartless process look at grenfell tower the problems they had after only 1 tower went up in flames? imagine a 1000 grenfells all at once what would be the resultant chaoses aftermaths social today theresa may when she visited that scene didnt even bother to meet the peoples who had lost their homes relatives the prev night? do you see the same honor duty bounds to the peoples welfare or code of conducts they once had in the 40s in any evidences in any of our poltical hoi poloi leaders of today!? = any answers on a large postcard please? :)
Nice video Sandy, so good to see Elsa back out with you... always like your camping videos, keep it up we love them.
Thank you so much for showing your camps. It's the next best thing to being out myself.
Great to see you both out camping. I’ve only just got internet in my new house so looking forward to catching up on your adventure. All the best Andy
Hope the house move went well Andy:)
Wiltshire Man stressful Sandy but we’re in & will settle down in no time. 😀
Another good vid
ATB, James
Great video Sandy and I've decided that from this video I'm going to start watching as soon as you have upload. I'm still going to watch the older one's but there's so many it will take ages so at least by watching the latest video's I'm kinda up to date😁👍
LOL that makes sense. The later videos are better then the earlier ones.
Wiltshire Man that is true the new video's are better but it's still good to watch the older one's you sort of get to know the person better. I'm sure your a very busy man but when you got the time check out one of my video's I recommend a recent one the high willhays snow camp I think you might enjoy it I got a couple of snow storm timelaps there to😁👍

Trangia best 👌👌

Thank you for documenting and sharing your wonderful experiences.
Great trip Sandy! I love how your dog was sleeping in the sleeping bag.
Got to always put the welfare of my dog first John) That sleeping bag cost me $250 and I don't mind if ny dogs makes it's dirty. Just so long as she stays warm:)
Wiltshire Man I hear that I just love my lil Pomeranian I’ve had him 15 years so far. He is family member for sure.
you don't need a fantastic sleep system if you have a dog, they snuggle up next to you and act like a big furry hot water bottle!
You are most welcome:)
yes good ole lady astor my home town plymouth has very strong connections assocs to the astors the american socialite during the plymouth blitz many ordinary poor families were often made homeless overnite
they came to lady astor seeking her help and lo and behold within 24hrs - 48hrs they often found themselves in a new home or placed with others who could help them!! she devoutly believed in helping the underprivilged and poor or those that had gave their all!!
i could not see many poloticians offering up their own place like she did for the afflicted or the poor these days!! could you?
but the peoples of plymouth fondly remember her issuing out instructions to sort out these afflicted poor all were to be sorted out within 24hrs of the 1st bombs dropping!!
Can't wait to got out next weekend for a solo woodland camp in my new oex tent ...looking forward to seeing more of your trail camera videos mate ..

Good to see your dog is with you again, I remembered she was a bit ill in december.
Keep them posting.
Thx
That was a song thrush Anivl. A rare sight nowdays. Some say the decline of snail and slug food source due to overuse of slug and snail pellets.
The power of the mind, when you started putting the spices in I could smell them, then I realized my wife was cooking curry. Lol nice vid
Nice camp that Sandy, you looked snugger than king Snug of Snugland in your bivvy.
This was so good I have just watched again. Elsa is the image of my dog. A Jack Russel cross.
Denise Audoire us also our dog is a double of Elsa , maybe a bit rougher coat at times ,also as well behaved ours is a Cairn cross
No joke this was the best technikal video I saw on RUclips very great my friends 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Happy Easter Ken,
We have had such a cold and damp winter you would not have enjoyed it much with the raynaud's syndrome but warmer months are ahead now. I can't wait:)
Sandy
Looked like a great outing, thanks for sharing it with us.
Got to treat myself to a Trangia without my misses knowing!! Great video Sandy, Loved the birdsong. Off to watch Joe's video PEACE :-)
They are quite expensive around £70 I think but they will last a lifetime.
Just wonderful on so many levels* Wow info on the fungi & clovers* Thank you so much for sharing*It has been a real treat :-)
Yes,lady Astor,Also had a mansion here in Newport Rhode Island.
Thank you Sandy, the lovely Elsa and Joe who is almost as lovely for this marvellous Easter treat :) Great food and a beautiful dawn chorus to wake up to. Nature embraces us when we embrace "it" :)
Thanks Paul. Yes Elsa is lovely:)) Joe has many good ideas like the wash station and the hooped bivi mods. A clever chap.
Wiltshire Man Yes Sandy Joe has shared a number of great ideas with more to come of that I am sure :) There is always plenty to learn and share :)
Nice. Like the handwashing station. My new go to won't need help

Hi mate second time round watching these videos and they just get better, now got my own hooped Bivvy, what is a good groundsheet to use under them ?

Great film guys. Trangias are brilliant bits of kit 👍👍
trangia stormproof, one of my fav stove, have one with a gas burner and a diy gel burner in case of need.
i light them with my old imco lighter ;)
Great to see Elsa fit and well again. XX
The old dog did well - mine is too much of a pain (and too big) to take camping!
Another great video Sandy, thanks for sharing it with us.
All the makings of a good camp Sandy and, the birds songs were lovely. :) ATB..........Les
I thought so too Les. The dawn chorus was loud:)
Hey Les
You're welcome Down Under any time.
Come with Sandy when he comes.
You're both welcome here.
Brilliant sandy I've just watched yours and Joe's videos you both make it look so effortless and simple ( love the vids you do ) 👍👍👌

Hi sandy i have not seen a video from joe for some time so i thought i would look him up on youtube cant find his channel did he remove it
Hi Stuart, Joe has deleted his channel for personal reasons. You will see him in some of my recent videos. He is doing OK
@@WiltshireMan i seen him at the last meet up you was at hope he is doing well and hopa it all works out for him
Nice film, always makes me laugh people saying the trangia is no good in the cold ...err made in Sweden that sub tropical country near the Arctic circle...
Exactly. I have heard that the Swede's use Trangias at minus 40C
I use meths as my go to burner too. NEVER been a problem even in low temps.
Exactly. The best thing of all is they have no moving parts, or jets to clog, and you can buy alcohol of some variety "almost" anywhere.

A lovely video. Thank you.
Any issues with lighting a leaf and dropping it into the burner........does it "clog up" anything or do you rinse out when you get home? Cheers.
Never had any issues Alan. Maybe just shake the crud out every now and again and once in a blue moon give the burner a qucik clean with hot water and a scrubbing brush.
These walk away from the camera shots are so distracting and fake - we know you have to go straight back to pick it up. Wouldn't bother
Each to his own, it helps to tell the story
Quite proper, good show ^^
mushrooms, the architects of life.
Wiltshire Man - Sounds good to me, guessing after the ridgeway, we’ll need a relaxing one 😉
Really miss your videos Sandy! Hope all is well, bless you 🙏🏻
I am quite well thanks:)
Love to see Preppers that get off the sofa and walk the talk... Bravo
If I am a prepper then I am not a good example of one.
great watching ,thanks
A long and perfect video. Thank you it was great. Superb high definition. I have the hooped bivvy and my jack Russell sleeps in the hooped head end very happily. I made her her own sleeping bag from and old sleeping bag and sewed a foam mat into the bottom. It rolls up for transport great.
Awesome. Little dogs are fantastic companions:)
I think elsa has her own rab ascent 700 bag
Nice show thanks
Hearing the birds with a cold nose and all senses = wonderful = alive = in tone with the Earth.. Great video
Got to get some Nature bro. It's good for you:) I need it anyway!!
when you touch a dogs nose and its cold. its happy. just like us humens. Great job mate your videos make me happy.
Nice wild camp, nice set ups, I always use trangia or lixada alcohol stove now. Cooked all kinds on it. Hardly ever use gas now. Cracking video as always ⛺👍
Great video Sandy. Cheers, Jim
Gracias por compartir, una buena experiencia. Saludos desde Madrid,
Thanks Carlos:)
The master Knive Builder in the woods bush crafting !! Wonderful !!
Great video.

No mat to sleep on, I am surprised he can even walk. If it were a pine forest at least there would have been the option of a branches and grass bed (a birds nest bed) for a poor ngts sleep, rather than a no ngt sleep. great video again Sandy.
Thank you.
ive left it perm on my msr now as it increases the length duration in time of the pre burn prime!!
the trangias are far less problematic
and its only if they are extremely hot burner reservoir blows out or expires or you get strange atmospherics air pressure issues at alt that ive ever encountered a problem?
as long as there is vapor there is a flame i find the fresher the fuel helps also aswell as lab ind or clear colored ind quality meths can burn a tad hotter than the usual purple dyed fuel! so i try to get ind stuff if i am able too
in scotland you used to have to sign the poisons register of 1962
to obtain meths cuz so many scots drink it
often at boots!! the chemists having homeless parties! as they wait in the queue!
i remember queueing with them
just to top up on my supplies after running out on skye once kyle of lochalsh never had any fuel so i had to bunk a br train all way to inverness and back again to skye
cross ferry
with only 1 bottle of fuel
which i had to convince pharmacists in inverness was for my camp stove and not to drink!!
they eventually relented after full on interrogations by 5 staff!!
spotlight to my face job!!
Prime spot you guys found there Sandy...those Laurels come in handy for us stealth campers for cover. Elsa looked lovely and toasty once you'd set up, lovely companion. And that curry...looked lovely ;)
Awww....poor Elsa. Must have been dog tired from the long walk in.
You got a cute dog mate
Trangia’s, timeless great bit of kit. Finding it harder to buy Meths these days though.
The Range or Wilko
in europe meth is easy to find but you can put a beer can instead of the trangia burner to use one of the new gel (or solid) fuel instead.
seen the trangia gel burner?
you can use too a gas burner for it.
this timeless design has still a lots of use
Poor little Elsa was pooped by the time you got to the site, she couldn't wait for you to set up a bed for her. They love their adventures no matter how old they are, but they just can't do as much when they get to an age. Nice video, thank you very much!
Could you tell me where I could read about your specific example of mycelium pathway symbiosis with plants? (Eg: over-grazed clover communicates to other clover to produce hormones to limit sheep reproduction). I tried to find more about this myself but haven’t had any success. I did find out that sheep who graze constantly on red clover can become infertile for a period or always.
I read about it somewhere but can't remember which book. There are many symbiosis in nature
Mate ignore the. Haters.......they ate empty and don't deserve the effort to read their comments.
Crack on for those who enjoy.
Terry 😎
just as an addendum to that about lady astor the peoples of plymouth were built & awarded a seaside lido on the hoe as a thankyou by the council for spending so many long hard years on cleaning up the city after it got blitzed the peoples had been perm covered in brick dust and rubble most houses never had good plumbing
so the council decided towards the end of completion of clean ups after the blitz
to give the ord hard working peoples of plymouth somewhere they could wash all the brick dust off themselves bathe after a hards days labor everyday for years clearing away all of the rubble!!
many of the destitute families that came seeking advice or help directly from lady astor herself were invariably fixed up by her influences social with a new council property or alternative solution by the ends of the same day!!! whitsands bay cliff dwellings started out as a citizen refugee sanctuary after the blitz!
now it seems as if we have now got the enemy running housing policies from westminster!! now we have got no chances of getting any sort of practical help today!! from anyone anywhere? so please tell me?
which era was better at the ends of the day?
:)
at least some of hoi poloi had a heart in them days id not like to take the same homelessness chances today!! theyd give you a number tell you to sit down cuz the computer says no!!
:(
bus you out the city on a one way tkt to an unwanted immigrant ville!!
like southend on sea or dover!!
youd have to give up yer family friends & only job in this heartless process look at grenfell tower
the problems they had after only 1 tower went up in flames?
imagine a 1000 grenfells all at once what would be the resultant chaoses aftermaths social today
theresa may when she visited that scene didnt even bother to meet the peoples who had lost their homes relatives the prev night?
do you see the same honor duty bounds to the peoples welfare or code of conducts they once had in the 40s in any evidences in any of our poltical hoi poloi leaders of today!?
= any answers on a large postcard
please?
:)
very nice
