PSA for everyone regarding work on the first story. If you're doing literally anything for work you must be paid for that time. So if you have to drive anywhere to fill out paper work u couldn't fill out anywhere else then you must be paid for that time.
Side Gate Story: OP was foolish...If I were them, the first time I saw AHole Lancer driving through the park/playground, honking at all the people/kids/pets in his way, I'd have filmed him (and gotten a good closeup of his License Plate), then called 911 to report him for Reckless Driving, Multiple Counts of Failure to Yield and Multiple Counts of Child Endangerment...
I suspect he'd stop taking his "Shortcut" after spending a day or 2 in the Local Jail waiting for his Bail Hearing...

I would have permitly welded it shut. It is not a road, it is a leftover construction dirt track. If it goes through a playground it was never meant to be used after construction ended. If the local council has a problem with the gate being welded shut. they can fix it.
Would have complained, with a few photos, of this vehicle deliberately driving through a playground, and menacing the people there in the playground, and attempting to drive over them, or threatening to do so. that will get the council out fast to fix it, either by locking the gate, or by giving the driver a gentle reminder that him driving through the park will get him towed, or having a police officer there to see him doing it, and arrest him for reckless endangerment.

The Lancer story: the subdivision should have more than one exit for fires or other emergencies. Locking the gate could be dangerous. Lean on the cops to cite the Lancer driver instead of adding to the danger.
The farmer wasn’t actually STEALING electricity though…. The fault was in the wiring and the situation was solved amicably.
Actually if you live in an area with older buildings it's actually worth it to have a professional come in and check the wiring. As this issue in the last story is not uncommon.
Yeah, I thought that too. The owners of the farmhouse (unless they had actually tampered with the circuit) were unaware that they were using someone elses electricity and it seems that the fault lies with whoever converted the sheds into housing, not doing due dilligence and checking the circuits were properly connected. Probably too much money to do a proper job and they just "half-assed" it, to make more profit.
Old houses are nightmare for electricians, everything is done without permit, plans or whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if other homes are connected too. By accident... Or main owner did it on purpose with every new converted home?
Since this seemingly happened in the UK where the laws are very different to the USA, it's no wonder the power costs were refunded since it's the responsibility of the power company to ensure that the charges are correct, and if they aren't then the company has to refund any over-payment (and in this situation, afaik they have no recourse to go after the other person for the charges since they didn't deliberately do it).

I remember when we were chastised for all of our meals being exactly what we were allowed. They wanted the actual numbers, not rounded even though tips often are rounded! Okay, so all of them were over and they cut them back down to max, what the point was we had no idea. So then they decided we weren’t eating that much everyday so they expected us to have some high and some lows guaranteeing us that they would be averaged. They actually did allow the averaging, for a while, but the averages were still over, though not by too much. Upper management had enough of this nonsense and had a rubber stamp made for our manager that said “ excess meal cost noted and approved” I think account threw up their hands at that point. Our office did check the averages weren’t too outlandish: we made sure the numbers what seemed to be exact numbers after all who needs numbers that are easy to read and calculate, right?
To entitle the third story as stealing the electric, that’s false because if they had no idea it was connected to your system then they can’t steal something if they don’t know about it

Mileage story: Good grief! Any money they MIGHT have saved would have been completely offset by the salary of the manager checking up on them. IDIOTS!
Decorate office story: Another idiot! Take time to decorate and make the office unusable instead of keeping pace on our important, time-sensitive projects. Sure boss, that makes a lot of sense.😂
Shortcut story: So driving thru a park OFF ROAD in order to access an exit that isn't meant to be used, endangering pedestrians (kids and parents) isn't a priority. Typical. I wonder how long before he goes out and buys a cheap pair of bolt cutters?
Electricity story: Well, at least the farmhouse owners were reasonable about it. I expected a big fight. The real surprise was the refund from the electric company. I imagine the problem was actually from a previous owner doing some DIY wiring, which didn't matter at the time since he was still paying for the electric in all the buildings.
The last story, if the person living in the farmhouse are the same people who split the buildings up. Then it is/was their responsibility to make sure that the electric boxes were all separated.
Man, that Manager could have made an easy decision by asking all of their family members if they would be interested in doing the decorating competition. And give him a free pizza party in return. Even the local boys or girls club would love to do it, this would have made her even more likable because of the fact that she was able to include the community involved in the whole contest.

The combination lock: I was once helping one of our bank customers who was having difficulty setting a new PIN for his on-line banking; I mentioned that certain combinations are not permitted because they are too popular and easily guessed, such as 1944 (D-Day), 1966 (England won the World Cup), 1984 (George Orwell) and - most popular of all -1066 (Battle of Hastings). After the last one there was a thoughtful pause, then he said "I'd better change my alarm code, hadn't I?"
The Lancer story - The cops should have done something due to the fact that the driver was creating a dangerous situation with the kids on the playground!

Story 2: There's a reason grid systems in cities are more efficient than the collector/funnel method of subdivisions. That also means that cities don't use them. They are a terrible design and not worth it. The marginal improvement to security is worth the increase in time to get in and out. Those roads will have to be torn out at some point.

reason why i think the gate might still be there is for emergency personel specialy if on diferent location in the area
Gate Karen: IMHO the only thing that the driver of the Lancer did, was be a dick to people, its not his fault that someone didn't properly block off an unofficial road, even if it does go through a park, assuming its not dangerous to do so, and he gets to work/Dr appointments on time etc, IMHO more people should have followed his lead as a means to force someone to do something like adding a 2nd way in/out.
Are you refusing to help co-workers in something that in no way has anything to do with the actual business??
I would have looked at dead in the face and said there you go yes I knew you did it eventually and then turned and walked away

for the off roading story I myself would have found a way to flatten his tires every time he drove through the gate but found a way to do it so that he couldn't blame me for doing it
