This game definitely had some unique level tropes and visual style, not seen anywhere else on the series. This was definitely one of the best levels, next to Sky Troops and Circus Park.
Heres the thing: you cannot really destroy ALL the internet. The best bet would be to bring down all satelites, and even then there's a lot other ways to communicate, such as cable.
Okay, I can dig Rouge being on some government mission inside the internet, but that mission being 'track down the emerald inside the internet' ain't quite it. Also the music for this stage is lit.

When you get to 1:23, use one of the light beams on the side, not the one in the middle. If you use the one in the middle, Rouge hijacks Shadow before he or Black Doom (they really should have come up with a better name for him), depending on who your guide is, can finish his thought.

I feel weightless atop this light (While speeding along the digital circuit line in different directions learns this quite quickly) Shadow: I see…. I can control which way this leads. Black Doom: (via his “EYE”) Shadow, this is the information highway system that they call “cyberspace”. Delete the core program that controls the data flow, and the world will plunge into chaos! Black Doom: make the humans suffer! 😈 Rouge the Bat: (with fem fatale like interest) oh, Shadow! 🙂😏 what a coincidence, running into you, here! Actually, I’m on a government assignment to track down a Chaos Emerald in the area. How about we both look for it together? 🙂 Black Doom: now, go! (Upon encountering a ray of light) Go down using that ray of light. Black Doom: that small floating machine is some type of human weapon….. destroy it! Black Doom: for your own sake…… do not fall. Now, get going! Black Doom: (warning about the black alien worm) one of our minions has burrowed underground. Do not wander too close to it. Black Doom: (sternly in responsive to Shadow attacking one of the black aliens) do not attack our soldiers! 😠 Black Doom: (upon reaching an access terminal pad) touch that and go through ahead! Black Doom: (sees G.U.N. Machine reinforcements) do they really think that sending in reinforcements will help? Pathetic fools….. 😈 Black Doom: it seems like they have stepped up their security in here. Do not be afraid. Go! Black Doom: (while Shadow’s in the air) jump! Black Doom: (upon seeing the Yellow colored Chaos Emerald) we’ve retrieved the Chaos Emerald. Now, head up, and find the core program! Black Doom: (upon finding a warp hole) if you jump through this Warp Hole, it will instantly teleport you. Shadow: (upon feeling a strong sense of vengeance) (growls) death to all who oppose me!! 😡 (Shadow uses the dark type chaos technique: Chaos Blast) Shadow: (before unleashing a blast of destructive Chaos energy) Chaos Blast!!!! 😠😠😡😡 Black Doom: (upon finding their quarry) that is the core program. Delete it, and take the Chaos Emerald in one swift move! Black Doom: (after destroying the core program) well done, Shadow. (Shadow receives the Yellow colored Chaos Emerald) Shadow: (coldly) whatever happens to the humans is no concern of mine (Only Upon receiving an A grade to the overall score) Shadow: (notices the A grade on your overall score) hmph!! 😈 Perfect (Meanwhile at the White House of the United Federation, where the president currently resides awaiting some kind of news out there) (Office phone intercom beeps) Secretary: (over intercom) Mr. President. We’ve received a report from the Central Information Agency. Our ground troops have successfully pushed back the black aliens from Westopolis. We’ve also managed to suppress enemy forces in five other cities. There’s also reports that the CIA’s mainframe has been compromised. We’re investigating the incidents now. It is a strong possibility that this was also committed by the black aliens. The president: (pressing the intercom talk button on his phone before speaking to the secretary) tell the commanding generals that the United Federation will never surrender to terrorists! The secretary: yes, Mr. President. (The President looks over to a photo of both Sonic and Shadow on his desk reflecting on his country’s fragile sense of good fortune) The President: (remembering all the times of Sonic and Shadow’s heroism) this planet was once saved from tyranny and Annihilation by you two heroes. Now mankind must protect this peace…… at all costs. (The President walks over to his office balcony a few feet behind his desk looking out at the world in front of him) The President: (with firm resolve in his beliefs) we must stand united to defend our world against these invaders! (In a different part of the world in what looks like a high tech office belong to some mad scientist, Shadow teleports out of the CIA mainframe and into the room, then look around at his environment) Shadow: (curious as to where he is) hmm…. Where am I? (Shadow looks up and sees a familiar form and shape on a certain flying pod) Shadow: isn’t that….. Dr. Eggman? Shadow: (wonders) maybe he can tell me about those black creatures. (With confirmation regarding the comically incompetent, but crazy intelligent warmonger like scientist, Dr. Eggman Robotnik, Shadow decides to go forth and find the mad scientist) Next time: three potential paths on stage 3 (dark): Cryptic Castle 8:32 Dr. Eggman: light the fires on the giant lanterns 8:35 Shadow: I’ve got to get out of this castle first 8:39 Amy Rose: please, you’ve got to find Cream
@SS2GohanisBomb1 There's a second level that uses this type of design, "Mad Matrix". The beam paths there are like a giant maze, so it's much much worse there.
One of those mission that was infuriating to A rank. You can be doing well in the start, but screw up on your timing on climbing at the end can ruin your run. I hated those lights, they had a weird timing.

This kind of looks like a "tech demo" stage; more fun to look at than to play. It might have been justified had this game been released four years earlier; now it just looks silly.
