yes, people are still watching this 5 years latter (and hope that there would be more episodes to see the company out of debt and with a nice sleeper cabin truck)
I have watched all 48 videos of this playlist - now in June 2020! I enjoyed the scenery - I see more of it as a passenger coming along with you than when I am driving the trucks myself. \the most impressive thing that you do in these videos is the parking! I don't know how you do that! I can't see enough in the mirrors and use the overhead view (2) to park. I have also watched the episodes of the "Trucking School" .... I find there is plenty to do in the game - between getting the achievements and then trying to drive on all roads - paint them all yellow. It seems that you left the Trucking Diaries after this episode... Whatever you do - have fun, Squirrel!
Not only that, tire wear does absolutely nothing. Its nothing more than just a number saying your tires are worn. Just another wasted, useless feature.
I understand what Paul is saying when he says he doesn't want it to get repetitive that being said I do really like his truck simulators both American and Euro ...personally I really like how Paul does his videos and to me that makes him stand out from the other you tubers out there just my opinion ..Happy Trucking All!!!
You mentioned the size of Texas. It's approximately the same size as France. In real life, if you stopped over the stop line but did not enter the intersection, you generally would not get a ticket. I have never written a ticket for that in my 17 years. Usually you have to move up to get a good look a cross traffic anyway.
yes there is tire damage. if you go to repair in service there is a tire percent. but lifting axles are more for over weight loads. like hauling 80,000 plus weights (40 tons)
New Mexico is so dry. There are so many dunes and deserts, and very few buildings and towns with very few traffic. It's the perfect place for a road trip.
Soo Squirrel, I doubt you're gonna see this but in the first episode of this series you said you'd continue to at least level 50. What happened to that?
Lift axle is basically used in the heavy hauling industry. The extra lift axle helps the trailer to take on more weight and allows the driver to take on heavier loads. Pusher and steer axles helps the truck to be able to haul massive equipments and steer better without any trouble.
The Sat Nav in ets2 does do stupid stuff too. BUT it does do cost of travel via boat vs train from the UK to France. It will often take you the quickest way in single player time even if the distance is longer to drive.
3:43 Eh, it depends on the car. Some cars have a portion of their brake light flash for indicators, while others have amber. Every car does have amber turn signals in the front, however. For instance, the newer mustangs have their entire brake light flash sequentially in the direction its turning
Having traveled New Mexico two years ago I found it a richly diverse State with some interesting destinations including Lincoln County (the home of Billy the Kid) the Border country La Cruces which is in proximity to El Paso, up past Fort Bliss and White Sands Missile base to the wilderness on the road to Santa Rosa where it is possible to find road signs advising you to make local enquirers for driving conditions on unimproved roads in that area, and then head north west to the centres of population of Albuquerqe,Santa Fe and the surrounding forests and peaks and then follow The Continental Devide back south through the Navajo and Apache reservations to the 10,000 ft peaks of the San Francisco and Tularosa Mountains of Catron County. I say carry on with ATS there is so much more to see in that wonderfull Country
So the lift axles on American trucks for the most part are different from the ones in the U.K. On American trucks you still have your standard 3 axels in whatever drive configurations you pick, but will add additional single wheel non steer tag axle that will lift between the back axles and steer axles. Usually used for heavy equipment or heavy hauls. Usually lifted while empty, light, or making sharp turns. Down when loaded and moving relatively straight. Most standard over road tractors have 1 I've seen more but ones standard. Dump trucks will have a lot more depending on what it's rated for from 1-5 all on separate switches with some even being dual wheels clover to standard axles
Hi Squirrel, like the sim vids especially My Summer Car! About the red turn lights here in the USA. We still use them! The DOT has not made a change for rear-facing indicators for a while now. In fact, my 2015 GMC Canyon (first year for the current generation) was designed with red only brake/turn/running lights.
There is only one thing I really really want in ETS/ATS; having ur own trailer. I dont care if you make the trailer expansive or anything. Just let us do jobs with our own trailer were we can play with liftable axles like you talked about Squirrel. I think alot of people agree with me.
Keep this going please. I like your commentary I am a driver myself and I get a kick out of the way a Britt like yourself comments on the traffic laws we have here in the states. Please keep this series up. I totally agree that the release of new content for this game is really slow and it can make it seem tedious and boring at times but I really enjoy this series I enjoy your perspective on trucking in the States!!!
Just finished training for my CDL and my 4 weeks OTR with a trainer(hell week) here in Texas. Love your videos on this game. Very insiping as it is a simple insight to such a driving industry. On home time now and I pray you return to the series as now I'm solo and would like to see some more for when I stop. Even plan built my own PC this week so maybe link up in the multiplayer mod
Well, this video is old, so I'm not sure if my comment does even count, but I watched all your Trucking Diaries and I think it would be great if with each new state that comes out you'd do maybe 5-10 new episodes of TD to cover the new area. Because yeah, you¨re right. Watching the same routes gets tiring. But if it's new routes, maybe even new trucks - and since SCS put out like one state a year - you can imagine it as Seasons of a TV show - each season would have 5-10 episodes so if you do one season a year like that, I'd love to watch them. Thanks for all the great fun! I hope I'll see more one day.
talking about the palm trees. I live in Miami, Florida and it is full of huge palm trees every where especially by the high school i use to go to. I remember that one year instead of buying brand new books the school decided on putting newer palm trees and each one was about $4,000 usd. My guess they were about 30ft tall but in my eyes it is still kind of ridiculous for a tree.
Flashing amber is slow down before proceeding. Flashing red means stop then proceed. We typically see them at 4-way-stop intersections where it's first-come-first-serve, so to speak.
Here in the states you don't really see trucks with lift axles if only a normal three axle. You see it on smaller straight trucks from time to time. The only time you see lift axles on a semi tractor is on heavy haulers with four axles. Two drive, one steer, and an extra lift axle in front of the drive axels. That would be a nice touch. But the euro setups are very much not normal here.
To answer a few questions you had. The US still uses flashing red lights at intersections (acts like a more visible stop sign). And you can get a ticket for stopping beyond the white limit line, since you'd be in the intersection, which is why the AI stopped. And palm trees are expensive in AZ and CA as well.
i live in america and i never knew about new mexico. That's why I love your videos I always learn something in every video, and if i dont learn something u always give me a good laugh.
Hey Paul, in 1845, the USA annexed Texas which spilled into the Mexican-American war between 1846-1848 which the USA won and gained present-day Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. The southern strip of AZ and NM was bought in the Gadsden Purchase of 1857. NM, I believe, is the 4th largest state in the USA. Albuquerque, the capital, has an impressive intersection with I-40 and I-25 that would probably be nice-looking in the game ;)
Paul is a wealth of information. I have read Oregon and Washington are the next states after New Mexico. ATS does need more content esp. more truck licenses. Keep on ATS truckin.
Actually truck-tire wear is modeled in game. SCS calls it "wheel" wear in diagnostics. I have tested it by not repairing wheels in both ETS2 1.26 and 1.27. Cab traction is definitely affected by tire/wheel condition with loads (7T - 70T) on differing surfaces (i.e., paved, dirt, grass, wet and dry). (Note: I also use physics mods, which may have effects, too.) With heavy loads on wet pavement, dirt roads, and grassy shoulders I have lost control multiple times (i.e., started sliding and losing trailer) while learning about 'wheel' wear effects. Now I use the heck out of trailer brakes (applying manually before using brake pedal), and differential lock (which incidentally does not help much if your tires/wheels are balding (>50% damage). These games (ATS & ETS2) are really sweet!! I have not yet observed (haven't paid attention) to any effects liftable axles may or may not have on cab or trailer wear.
3:59 when he asked about the flashing lights, car companies used to have amber, but since new cars came out they thought it was more sleek to keep just red, so it's not gone.
I've found that most people don't care about history until they have a little of their own. (Historian by training.) You're not alone in that Squirrel.
I think they model tire wear simplistically. As I drive, I get damage to the lower part of my truck and when I go to the shop for repairs, it shows the tires being worn. I try to go for a repair every 10,000 miles, but after about 5,000 I have over 10% truck damage without even hitting anything. Of course, it would be neat for them to put a little more into that side of the game!
Keep ATS. Do more in fact. It's def slower to evolve then ETS, but that doesn't keep me away. Love the game and I look forward to your ATS vids tremendously. Thanks!
If your hazards weren't on, the AI traffic will get right up on you. They stopped at the junction point because of the 4-ways. They would have drove past the junction point and would have given you no room at all if your blinkers weren't on.
1. There actually IS tire wear. When you go fix your truck you can see tires as a category. 2. When you turn blinkers on, the AI does give you more space. Without blinkers they would back you up as close as possible.
Squirrel, have you tried the RCH V 1.1 mod (Real California Highways)? It makes the freeways in southern California much more realistic Interstate 5 from San Diego to the Grapevine, interstate 10 from L. A. to El Centro and Interstate 15 to Barstow have been widened to 8 lane freeway 4 lanes each way! Not only are the interstates wider and more realistic but there is also more scenery in and around Los Angeles. There are more buildings such as warehouses, apartments and office towers! Also some of the exit signs along the Intestate have been redone to better reflect the geography of southern California with sings displaying the names of L.A. suburbs like San Bernardino, Huntington Beach and Beverly Hills. For example the interchange where you merged onto Interstate 10 now says San Bernardino.
Enjoyed your little history lesson of New Mexico Paul. Personally for me, the first thing I think of with New Mexico is Breaking Bad (as it was set in Albuquerque and the surrounding area). If it wasn't for BB, I wouldn't have known much about NM either as I'm from Australia
For the liftable axle, lifting it does more than reducing tire wear it also reduces fuel usage (since it's one less axle the engine has to drive; I know it doesn't make sense, but somehow it does? ), but more importantly, lowering the axle reduces the amount of weight per axle; I'd find it fun if the weighing stations would penalize you if your axle was up while pulling a heavy load. :P
Best way to continue Truckin Diaries (NA) is to wait until New Mexico comes out then the mileage will increase probably to about 2,000 miles from cities in Cali to say Santa Fe. If they did Texas, then the potential would be huge.
Go to SCS forum for maps and update your knowledge about improvements to the map and expansions. Project West has made big improvements to California. New Mexico is desert, mountains and more desert. Only a few interstates and one large city. Much like Arizona. It is through route to Texas and Colorado. Please bring you cowboy boots and six shooter.
In my experience, a liftable axle has more to do with weight than anything else. For example, a tri-axle dump with a liftable 3rd axle can haul 27T of dirt when a comparable truck, same size dump body, motor etc... but only a tandem axle, can only legally haul 24T. These numbers may not be exactly correct but hopefully you get my point. Maybe they are trying to implement liftable third axle vehicles for heavier loads?
I love ATS! Please don't stop the series. I understand it may not be fesable to do a video a week. But one a month isn't unreasonable right? I love seeing a new ATS episode up. Launching my game and driving along with you!
Squirrel did you know that in America, it depends on the company, but trucks are usually governed to 62 mph, even if speed limit is 75. Each company can have its own governed speed, like 60mph or 63 mph, but average governed speed is 62. Also trucks are usually allowed to do 2 mph over an allocated speed limit, as long as the driver doesn't go over their governed speed limit
tyre wear is kinda modeled in the game, whether it's tracked by how you drive or your axle I don't know. but if you service you truck now and then tyres do show a small repair cost over time. as well does the rest of the truck
Hey you mention OKLAHOMA! My home state. Yeah I can't wait for Oklahoma and Texas even. Every year Texas puts on an event where they plan to succeed from the USA. Some sort of conference I think.. The stats are interesting. If Texas became its own country it would instantly be entered as the 13th largest economy of the world if I recall correctly.
They probably did New Mexico because it appears that they are following I40, which runs from Barstow, California to Wilmington, North Carolina, and with the exception of Nevada, I40 runs through every state they have thus far made.
If they're introducing liftable axles then maybe they should also add sliding axles so that if your axle loading exceeds the maximum permissible you get fined at the weigh station.
Please continue ATS I really enjoy it! I know it will get boring but just don't stop. Just take a break til new stuff comes out. You didn't talk about the weigh station device or multiple fuel spots in gas stations. Also engine sounds are improved, coin sound can be modded and more. I can't wait for Texas. I love watching you play My summer car. Thanks for not cursing.
Last palm tree I bought was about 1m tall and cost $20 in Australian Dollars. It wasn't even a native Australian palm either. Didn't think there would be any palms in England.
please continue the series, now im curious on how many drivers you will have and how you will pay off the loan. im really enjoying the series, so please dont stop
I think multi pivot Points for double trailers in ats and tandom trailers that has the faith wheel hook up in the back plus it be awesome and challenging to try to back.
Instead of working on things that don't matter like lift axles they should focus making the transmissions more accurate and maybe adding smoke from the stacks.
Paul. firstly thank you for another Trucking diaries. if Scs carry on with their current rate of states of 3 a year it will take them 16 years to map just the 48 conjoined states.
around here, no one cares about if your in the intersection as long as their light is green that's all they care about...they won't stop for emergency vehicles (as long as they have a green light, they go no matter what) so the emergency vehicles have to either slow down or come to a stop (i've seen it happen a lot where I work pushing in shopping carts)
Squirrel, if you can produce an ATS video every 2-3 weeks, I be more then happy with that. I think it would give your channel even more diversity, which can only be a good thing.
Squirrel, you should try out the Project West map mod from the forums, Provides a lot of realism around the cities and also includes Yosemite National Park. Also works with MHAPro map mod, which are all updated for the rescale. By the way, ATS 1.6 is here with Diff Lock!
Great video Paul, but it would be nice if you changed your truck soon or at least put a sleeper on this one. I think a new truck could also increase the view as you've benn using this one for most of the series. Also, SCS could possibly save Texas for later if they connect New Mexico to Oklahoma. Or, what if they just threw everybody off and went to parts of Mexico next
Hey Squirrel, not sure if you'll see this, but when your not hauling a trailer you can go up to normal speed of 65mph in California, you only have to go 55 when you have a trailer hitched to you.
Your game is so amazingly smooth, and you can pull off turns with a wheel that I need to slow way down for with keyboard steering. Of course the two things that would most improve my quality of life ingame, better GPU and steering wheel, are the two most expensive things :P
Yeah, the same thing happens with me...I actually went and finally got myself a low bugdet steering wheel but what do you know it didn't work with any of my computer games, and then my computer had to get formatted and then i spilled cola on the disk to install the software...
I really enjoy watching how you do a career on ATS I hope you keep doing it. Considering they aren't coming out with a lot of updates for it I can understand if you don't do one every week. But I think you should do one every now and then. And expecially when updates like new states come out i think you should do a few episodes and explore the new states and cities as they come out.
SamShawn Stephens what are you talking about there's a ferry from Bellingham WA to Alaska. as much as I'd love Alaska because I live here there's only a few places to haul to.
USA Still uses brake/turn signal combos, alot of mfg’s are transitioning out of it to accommodate more picky foreign markets whose drivers cannot discern between a brake and turn signal, here in America we can handle the combo.
Paul. please don't give up on Trucking diaries me personally I prefer north America over euro truck. even once a month would be better than ending totally.
I understand if you want to end the actual series. A few videos whenever new content is released or just one when you fancy playing ATS is probably a more reasonable approach, I think that would be more enjoyable for you and us, and it wouldn't get stale
I think the community and even SCS still have to learn a lot about the big differences of trucking between Europe and the US. A lot of features used in Europe and the ETS2 are absolutely not used in the US.
Congratulations to everyone specially squirrel for completing 1 year for trucking diaries....
Atharva mahajan not really becuase he has been lacking lately with these videos
All other videos have been shunted out of the way, replaced by My Summer Car.
yes, people are still watching this 5 years latter (and hope that there would be more episodes to see the company out of debt and with a nice sleeper cabin truck)
So sad it's over.
Really miss this series! Hopefully one day you will continue the trucking journey. 🙏

Typical Videos well that sucks. I used these to get to sleep. I've seen the old ones now too :(
I know right
Typical Videos did he say why :( though tbh I have a feeling because it's taking the devs forever to come out with new states and content
Soo Squirrel, I doubt you're gonna see this but in the first episode of this series you said you'd continue to at least level 50. What happened to that?
No, he said level 40 or 50. He passed 40 but not enough hype to continue.

A tri-axle (what im assuming youre talking about) is to haul more weight. Disperses the weight more.
Please do more American truck simulator please
Yeah, some cars over here in the US still use the flashing red lights as turn signals. Seems to be about a 50/50 split between the two.
Hope to see more episodes of Trucking Diaries on your channel one day
I think multi pivot Points for double trailers in ats and tandom trailers that has the faith wheel hook up in the back plus it be awesome and challenging to try to back.
I enjoy both videos. I am more involved with ATS than ETS, but I do play both. So I hope you continue both series.
You didn't need to stop at that weigh station. It had a green light doh! (face palm). Typical SatNav problems again as well XD.
Excellent as always Paul. You make a great deal of sense.
Great to listen and watch. Thankyou so much for what you do. GG
The AI did give you more room Squirrel, they get much closer to your truck than that (even crash into you sometimes) without the hazard lights on
Flashing red means stop, then go when its safe. Flashing yellow means yield but dont have to stop unless someone is in the intersection.
really missed these diaries, trucking was the main reason i subbed to your channel. Keep it going. Thanks.
Instead of working on things that don't matter like lift axles they should focus making the transmissions more accurate and maybe adding smoke from the stacks.
Why smoke from the stacks? Most of the modern trucks in the US are using DEF for they engines and do not smoke any more.
Tom'sFruitStand They have improved engines and transmissions in the new open beta.
I use mods of older trucks and it always was weird they burned clean. They should at least implement it as an option for players that use mods.
As an option, its okay for me.
Paul. firstly thank you for another Trucking diaries. if Scs carry on with their current rate of states of 3 a year it will take them 16 years to map just the 48 conjoined states.
I actually live in Arizona, and have been to New Mexico many times, so I'm pretty familiar with the area.
around here, no one cares about if your in the intersection as long as their light is green that's all they care about...they won't stop for emergency vehicles (as long as they have a green light, they go no matter what) so the emergency vehicles have to either slow down or come to a stop (i've seen it happen a lot where I work pushing in shopping carts)
Wait until new mexico is out and then continue the series. Hopefully the content will drop more regularly in the future
Squirrel, if you can produce an ATS video every 2-3 weeks, I be more then happy with that. I think it would give your channel even more diversity, which can only be a good thing.
I wondering the same, Squirrel. Trailer Axle Steering is a bigger issue for some roads.
And expecially when updates like new states come out i think you should do a few episodes and explore the new states and cities as they come out.
lift axle or tag axle as we call them here in the states are mainly used for heavy hauling
scs should do Alaska. bring back the days of 18 wheels of steel extreme trucker :)
Adam Fischer hahaha, that's going to surely take a while! Alaska is enormous.
Wouldn't they then have to do some of Canada then? Unless you take a ferry up to Alaska, but realistic lyrics that doesn't make a lot of sense
Realistically
What about ice road truckers?
SamShawn Stephens what are you talking about there's a ferry from Bellingham WA to Alaska. as much as I'd love Alaska because I live here there's only a few places to haul to.
I think the once in a while video is good enough. After all you gotta be happy with what content you are making.
USA Still uses brake/turn signal combos, alot of mfg’s are transitioning out of it to accommodate more picky foreign markets whose drivers cannot discern between a brake and turn signal, here in America we can handle the combo.
Squirrel keep the series going I think a lot of people like to watch so please keep it going
squirrel is the best and he always will be
RIP trucking Diaries. So sad.
Paul. please don't give up on Trucking diaries me personally I prefer north America over euro truck. even once a month would be better than ending totally.
