  • This is a fun way to use those charm packs to great advantage. You can also use "mini" charms to make a smaller block. Remember to cut background fabric 1.5 inches bigger than you want your "unfinished" block to measure. It's ALL for FUN!!

    Wow, the end result looks like a smattering of coffee cups! For a 'coffee buddy, applicating a curved handle on either side would be darling!
    Additionally, on the "Template Cutting Method," where one duplicates the shape, why not make another a monochromatic backing, using one background color with the left-over ore-cuts, or colored blocks with the backgroud fabic--or, another quilt!
    I like this one. A lot of possibilities.

I usually lay it out on the floor next to the machine, and then just pick up the pieces as a go. I think your method will be faster, and I am going to try it. Thank you.

    Great video and tips! I’ve used what I call fold and sew. I also like your other method, where the tumblers are trimmed and sewn back together, taking out the extra background piece. I usually cut that out when I use the fold and sew method for squares. I also like that you mix the two methods in putting together your quilt. I would like to try this with some mini charms. Thank you.

    For Mini-Tumblers, cut diagonally from corner to 1/2 inch square on the cutting mat. I just got done cutting 168 pieces. I cut 5 inch square pack into 4 pieces; then cut the tumblers. I do have the MSQC mini-tumbler template. But do you think that I could find it when I needed it? Of course not, not me, lol. I'm thinking of making 4 patches out of them. Then who knows?

  • @laris2328
    @laris2328 Год назад

    I do like the second method. I think that I'm going to try it but modify it for the mini-tumbler. I think that I'm going to use fusible something, whatever I've got at home, to adhere it to a 5 inch square. Then I'll sew a cute stitch around it. Then I just have to sew 5 inch squares together. Some of them might be upsidedown or sideways. Who knows? I'll let you know how it goes.

  • @marionbartley214
    @marionbartley214 Год назад +1

    What size square for the background pieces, do I need to cut if my little Tumbler is a 2-1/2"
    Size?
    I have a bunch of 2-1/2" mini charms, and about four or five rolls of 2-1/2" strips. So this quilt would look so cute made from these 2-1/2" mini charms. I don't want to start cutting up fabric background pieces for all these mini charms. Without knowing what size the background squares need to be. Because that would be wasting material and fabric is expensive. So if you could let me know what size the backgrounds needs to be for this I so would be very appreciative.❤ These mini charms have been hanging around my sewing space. Just waiting for the perfect quilt for them to be made into. And after watching your video tonight I thought oh this is just the perfect quilt I love this idea❤ Thank You

    • @merrymabelmarket
      @merrymabelmarket  Год назад +1

      There isn't a FAST rule to this. If I were you, I would start with ONE 7 inch square. Sew it. Then decide if you want less or more background fabric. (You might then decide to stay at 7 inches, or even go down to 6.5 or 6 inches.) It really is personal preference. PLAY!! You'll love it!

    • @marionbartley214
      @marionbartley214 Год назад +1

      Thank You for your advice on telling me what size background square. in this case 7 " to use for this project I mentioned earlier in the comments section. In regards to using a 2 1/2" mini tumblers. Squares, it's so helpful to have a starting size. Looking forward to making this quilt in the video.

    Thank-you, not needing a template is so good. I've always heard "nesting" the seams. Have you tried putting a pretty and a background block face up together, cutting the shape and having positive and negative blocks? Two quilts or front and back together?

      @merrymabelmarket  Месяц назад +1

      It seriously depends on my mood. Both methods are good. You can do both methods on the same quilt if you wanna try and see how you feel about the methods yourself. The folding method causes less confusion for a beginner. But - the cutting method has less bulky seams! Just depends what you are doing and why.

  • @belb4978

    Not a fan of all the folds in the block. Even so you are a wonderful teacher and makes it all look so effortless and beautiful. I think maybe I will just use a decorative stitch to sew the tumbler right on the white block, so I won’t have to do any folding and cutting.
