OMG! I cannot believe I have not seen this method before. I truly wish I had known about this method of sewing blocks years ago. How very simple. Thank you.
I’ve learned more USEFUL things and tricks and ways of remembering tips from your videos this weekend than I’ve learned about quilting from RUclips this past 6 months. I am like a sponge - forget the housework, I’m busy staying merry and being excited about fabric! I absolutely love your channel!
I enjoy watching u on RUclips all the quilts & things u make r so beautiful & different & that’s what I like. I noticed you like some things I do….scrappy, string or improv (because I hate rules)
I just discovered your channel this evening and I gotta say I love your style and attention to clearly explain how to do things. I can't wait to make one of these tumbler quilts and to take what I've learned here and incorporate it into other quilts. Thank you for your time and effort. Can't wait to watch and learn more from you 🙂❤️.
My goodness, that quilt with the yellow border turned out exactly as you described it in the beginning - so sweet! (The purple, black & yellow one is nice, too, especially for the interest factor to small babies with that high contrast black and white.) Thank you for sharing.
Wow!!!! I like both ways - the second does remove that extra layer of the middle which could be important when quilting. I’m new to your videos and watched the wonky stars right before this one! Sure would make some nice easy quilts for charity - my guild makes quilt for Children in Crisis and these would be super. Thanks - I took screen shots so I Will remember🤭🤭🤭
I really like the way you made these Tumbler quilts. Thank you for the sewing directions and ironing directions. On the smaller Tumbler quilt 2-1/2" size did you sew it the same way as the larger Tumbler pieces?
Gracious these two methods are great. Saved it to my project file. This is a great way to use up my 5” squares. I especially like the folded one. Thanks
I just stumbled across your channel and I adore the fold method. I have decided to adopt your method of odd and even rows on pressing. I don't know why I didn't think about that. So easy and I appreciate you taking time to explain how your techniques. Oh and I just bought my very first long arm. Tips and suggestions are definitely appreciated there. Thank you!!!
Owning a longarm is life changing. It's a better investment than a new car! If I were you, I would watch the old pajama quilter videos (MerryMabelMarket RUclips channel) for some free (if older) freehand instruction and have SO MUCH FUN!!!
I've done one but I put all next to each other and it didn't come out perfect but I gauss it was good enough for my sister I think I tied it cause I didn't know how to do the free motion quilting then I've just learned 7 years ago. I've got the perfect charm pack for this quilt all I need is background fabric. Be watching it again for sure. Thanks for sharing. And happy quilting ❤
I am going to try this after the first of the year. I learned a lot of different methods from you in the is video. I am going to try the way that you put your rows together on my next quilt. I usually lay it out on the floor next to the machine, and then just pick up the pieces as a go. I think your method will be faster, and I am going to try it. Thank you.
Great video and tips! I’ve used what I call fold and sew. I also like your other method, where the tumblers are trimmed and sewn back together, taking out the extra background piece. I usually cut that out when I use the fold and sew method for squares. I also like that you mix the two methods in putting together your quilt. I would like to try this with some mini charms. Thank you.
Wow, the end result looks like a smattering of coffee cups! For a 'coffee buddy, applicating a curved handle on either side would be darling! Additionally, on the "Template Cutting Method," where one duplicates the shape, why not make another a monochromatic backing, using one background color with the left-over ore-cuts, or colored blocks with the backgroud fabic--or, another quilt! I like this one. A lot of possibilities.
What size square for the background pieces, do I need to cut if my little Tumbler is a 2-1/2" Size? I have a bunch of 2-1/2" mini charms, and about four or five rolls of 2-1/2" strips. So this quilt would look so cute made from these 2-1/2" mini charms. I don't want to start cutting up fabric background pieces for all these mini charms. Without knowing what size the background squares need to be. Because that would be wasting material and fabric is expensive. So if you could let me know what size the backgrounds needs to be for this I so would be very appreciative.❤ These mini charms have been hanging around my sewing space. Just waiting for the perfect quilt for them to be made into. And after watching your video tonight I thought oh this is just the perfect quilt I love this idea❤ Thank You
There isn't a FAST rule to this. If I were you, I would start with ONE 7 inch square. Sew it. Then decide if you want less or more background fabric. (You might then decide to stay at 7 inches, or even go down to 6.5 or 6 inches.) It really is personal preference. PLAY!! You'll love it!
Thank You for your advice on telling me what size background square. in this case 7 " to use for this project I mentioned earlier in the comments section. In regards to using a 2 1/2" mini tumblers. Squares, it's so helpful to have a starting size. Looking forward to making this quilt in the video.
For Mini-Tumblers, cut diagonally from corner to 1/2 inch square on the cutting mat. I just got done cutting 168 pieces. I cut 5 inch square pack into 4 pieces; then cut the tumblers. I do have the MSQC mini-tumbler template. But do you think that I could find it when I needed it? Of course not, not me, lol. I'm thinking of making 4 patches out of them. Then who knows?
Thank-you, not needing a template is so good. I've always heard "nesting" the seams. Have you tried putting a pretty and a background block face up together, cutting the shape and having positive and negative blocks? Two quilts or front and back together?
I love your ideas for this cute quilt. I am interested in making the smaller tumblers. Could you tell me how far you cut in for the 2 1/2 inch squares? I’m thinking a quarter inch thank you
It seriously depends on my mood. Both methods are good. You can do both methods on the same quilt if you wanna try and see how you feel about the methods yourself. The folding method causes less confusion for a beginner. But - the cutting method has less bulky seams! Just depends what you are doing and why.
I do like the second method. I think that I'm going to try it but modify it for the mini-tumbler. I think that I'm going to use fusible something, whatever I've got at home, to adhere it to a 5 inch square. Then I'll sew a cute stitch around it. Then I just have to sew 5 inch squares together. Some of them might be upsidedown or sideways. Who knows? I'll let you know how it goes.
Not a fan of all the folds in the block. Even so you are a wonderful teacher and makes it all look so effortless and beautiful. I think maybe I will just use a decorative stitch to sew the tumbler right on the white block, so I won’t have to do any folding and cutting.
You are such a joy to watch! Mom is in heaven so she can't teach me to sew. You have the tricks. 💓💓
Thank you for finding us. We are happy to share what we know.
Love the blue, yellow and purple quilt! The sweet one was adorable as well.

This was intriguing! I loved watching both ways! No tumbler template needed! Please do some more unique methods!

First time seeing you. ❤️ I love this video. Thanks❣️
I love your odd/even pressing. I do the same but often I press to the odd cause I'm a bit odd and need to embrace it!😂
Ha, ha, Ha!!
I just love the fold method! I'd seen it years ago but forgot about it. Thanks!!
As always, you show me ways to make it easier. Why didn’t I think of that? Odd and even: perfect!
Cute quilts!

I really like the way you made these Tumbler quilts. Thank you for the sewing directions and ironing directions. On the smaller Tumbler quilt 2-1/2" size did you sew it the same way as the larger Tumbler pieces?
Yes, sewing it with either method will work.
I love this sweet, soft looking baby quilt. It's perfect.
Thank you! 😊
Gracious these two methods are great. Saved it to my project file. This is a great way to use up my 5” squares. I especially like the folded one. Thanks

I also press away from the odd and towards the even!😂
It just makes sense. Right!?!
❤❤❤
Wow! ❤❤❤
Thank you for a great video. I was thinking... that center block from method 2 can be put on colorful backing fabric
Absolutely!
Just found this channel and enjoying you videos very much. What size of background squares-fabric do you use for the 5 inch tumblers?
I started with 11 inch background squares...sewed them, THEN trimmed them down to 9.5 inch - ready to sew together.
@@merrymabelmarket thank you! Looking forward to trying this block, and seeing more of your videos.

Yes I have, When I do that. I usually make two separate quilts. Works great for all the shapes.
I love your ideas for this cute quilt. I am interested in making the smaller tumblers. Could you tell me how far you cut in for the 2 1/2 inch squares? I’m thinking a quarter inch thank you
I did mine a titch over half. Just be consistent with your cuts and it will work great!
Cute.
Is there one method you prefer over the other? Thank you!

The furst method seems so much easier & the little pieces dont get misplaced.
They both have their benefits. For sure you are right about simpler piecing on that method!
👍🏼
