    I think mat Henry is really underrated, he should start with boult

    • @JimmyKip
      @JimmyKip 4 месяца назад +2

      I think Boult is possibly a bit overrated now; he wasn't amazing in the T20 series at home this summer, if anything overshadowed by Sears. I think Conway is another who's form has dipped a bit in the kiwi summer - where Finn Allen looked more like the nailed down first choice opener.

  • @trs5127
    @trs5127 4 месяца назад +12

    Not picking Henry in your first XI is interesting. He has been NZ's best bowler in T20Is recently. I guess it's the Boult effect right? He doesn't play bilateral cricket anymore and so we can all guess about how much better or worse he would have been compared to his fellow NZ pacers, but on IPL form and just legacy alone he makes the team over every other bowler.

    • @ronaldbaker2858
      @ronaldbaker2858 4 месяца назад +1

      Actually, it's been Southee: 28 wickets at 18.46 in 17 innings since the last T20WC. Henry has taken 13 at 23.46 in 10 innings (before last year, he hadn't played a T20I in 6 years)

    • @bellehdewmah
      @bellehdewmah 4 месяца назад +3

      I think that first XI is slightly off the mark for us, my best guess based on our recent selection trends is it'll be:
      Allen
      Conway (wk)
      Kane (C)
      Mitchell
      Phillips
      Chapman
      Bracewell
      Santner
      Henry
      Boult
      Ferguson
      Res: Neesham, Southee, Ravindra, Sodhi.
      Sodhi and Neesham have been average recently, and Champans has been our best batter. I doubt we will drop him.

    • @trs5127
      @trs5127 4 месяца назад +1

      @@bellehdewmah I'm always conflicted about Sodhi. Decent wicket taking option but when he starts getting hit, he gets brutalised. As for Neesham, I mean, love him but he has always been more of an explosive finisher who can bowl a bit than an allrounder, and Michael Bracewell over him is obvious

    • @honeriley
      @honeriley 4 месяца назад +1

      @@bellehdewmahyour first xi team is indeed the most likely one with Sodhi coming in for Ferguson in some games.

  • @honeriley
    @honeriley 4 месяца назад +3

    NZ's Finn Allen will be in the initial first xi if fit. He's the explosive right-handed opener and backup wicketkeeper. Conway(wk), Williamson (3), Daryl Mitchell, Phillips and Santner will always start barring injury. A key question is Southee's swing or Henry's movement off seam. I'd go Henry. Recent history suggests Chapman has just done enough to be the first xi finisher. The fact that Michael Bracewell captained in Pakistan and the likelihood of spin friendly conditions makes me think he may also often start ahead of Neesham. As great as Ravindra will be in the future, NZ is typically very loyal to their top-order incumbants and Ravindra hasn't really performed well in the lower order. That suggests to me a typical bench of Ravindra, Neesham/Bracewell, Southee/Henry, Sodhi/Ferguson depending on playing conditions and matchups. Yes, Williamson's SR is somewhat of a concern. But Caribbean pitches can be tricky and other than awarding free license to Allen, NZ has shown no indication of changing that solid 'anchor approach'. They don't have the explosive consistency of a Travis Head, Jos Butler or Heinrik Klaasen but fortunately for NZ, Conway, Mitchell, Chapman and Bracewell have shown they have multiple gears.

    • @Stowerslemalu
      @Stowerslemalu 4 месяца назад

      NZ do have players with explosive capacity though, Ravindra, Phillips, Allen and even Mitchell when hes on really on are all capable of taking games away from the opposition.

    I know that Marsh has been the T20 captain for a few bilateral series but at the T20 World Cup stage I still believe that Pat Cummins should be the captain. Even his leadership for the Sunrisers at IPL has been brilliant. But hey if that means it gives India a better chance at winning I will take it.

    • @mcmjoe

      He isn't the captain due to workload management, they don't want him to play every game and be injured.

    Only analysts outside of NZ still rate Southee. Hes been a spent force for a while now. Henry has been a better bowler for over 5 years. So disappointing Sears and O'Rourke were left behind for him.
    There is enough class and talent in the NZ squad to win it, but they would be 4th favourite for me, behind Australia, India, SA then them.
    Strongest 11 would be
    1. Allen
    2.Conway
    3. Willaimson
    4. Phillips
    5. Mitchell
    6. Ravindra
    7. Nessham

    Jarrod, it'll be great if you don't take IPL records and form seriously in analysing. WC team. The pitches here are cement roads which is going to make any batter look good or bad depending upon the day and will make all bowlers look bad unless you are Bumrah or Pathirana who have an X-factor on their shirt.
    It's completely fine for Starc to have an average season on these small match box sized grounds and I'm sure he's going to rip up all top orders at the Carribean

    • @vishnuaravind2159
      @vishnuaravind2159 4 месяца назад

      @imnothim12 Because man has a habit of winning and knows how to win, and can still win a cricket match by himself on a given day.
      Nobody would drop him on any given day especially when there isn't anybody on his level (which is pretty legendary to replace him). If JFM should have been considered, he should have made his international debut atleast last year, tried and tested to replace him. If they had done all that and he had surpassed Warner, I am okay with warner being replaced. Team before anybody.
