- This is a playthrough of Sonic the Hedgehog CD for the SEGA CD.
I figured I'd upload a second playthrough of Sonic CD, this time with the US soundtrack as I know some people prefer it. I tend to lean toward the Japanese/European OST personally though~

I like how in the US soundtrack in the metal sonic race in the good future still uses the good future theme

Yeah, it actually fits really well. Either Future theme is fine.
That only happens in the 1993 version if you got the Good Future. Otherwise, it plays the Bad Future.

Stardust Speedway is simply art. Best sonic stage ever create.

2022 and sonic cd is my favorite 2d sonic game, the 3d one is a tie between sa2 and sa (dc versions)
Half of this playthrough is where Sonic enters the bad future of the following three third zones: Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos and Tidal Tempest. The other half is where after Sonic collects all seven time emeralds (the green, the orange, the yellow, the blue, the cyan, the purple and the red one). Then Sonic enters the good future of these four third zone levels: Quartz Quadrant, Wacky Workbench, Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness thus gaining the best ending in the game.
Community Note: It’s Time Stones, not Time Emeralds.

the pink hedgehog for those who don't know is Amy she looks different in the games before Adventure. her early design was just her as a pink female version of Sonic. also, this game is her debut.

BTW the boss music never scared me, I liked it, then I knew that the JP version had different soundtracks that are better in general but I prefer Eggman's theme in this version. Nostalgy power.

This is a game I've always wanted to play. I never thought until recently to look up a play through. Thanks for uploading this!
It unfortunately gave me bad motion sickness. I'm glad I could experience most of this game tho. I don't think I could make it through a playthrough myself. This is the first and only sonic game to give me motion sickness so I find that weird.

I never played the SEGA CD version of this game but I had it on PC and I played the crap out of it in 1st grade

Yeah, I never knew either! Time-wise, Sonic CD would be placed between Sonic 2 (1992) and Sonic 3 (1994). At the moment, I'm playing Sonic Mania Plus and the special stages are similar to the ones on Sonic CD graphics-wise :-)

@@BenjyDale Ooh nice! Ill have to check that one out. I think those special stages are by far my favorites in all the games. Asides from the first Sonic, the others were just rage enducingly frustrating.

Very good playthrough. The US version is better fit for a Time Stone run whereas the JP version is better for a Generator run in my opinion. JP version is overrated.

The two fates of Little Planet of Sonic CD (1993):
Bad Ending: The city building burns down in agony causing Sonic and Amy to escape with their lives. Then they fall back down on the premises of Never Lake (Sonic runs, but Amy stays upset and crying) Then the big rock explodes and the pieces of chain fall down trying to crush Sonic. Then Eggman steals an emerald and flies the heck on, but Sonic begins to take a rock and throw it at his aerial ship causing it to be destroyed (thus showing a Robotnik-shaped cloud). Then Sonic looks rather angry at you (no reason why). Video plays until the end and the planet gets re-chained back to the mountain causing any player to redo the whole game. Not a fun experience.
Good Ending: Same as above, but now stars fall down in front of Sonic and the planet shows an invisible image of Sonic and then disappears before the planet does. Now the planet gives itself up and erases its sight from Sonic. Video plays until the very end. This time now, stars fall down to the empty ground revealing flowers now appearing and blooming out for you in the best ending of the game. Peace is now for the player and the planet who saved the formerly hopeless planet from Eggman's evil reign.
how has no one in this entire thread commented on the music for the stage that starts at 16:05 ... i found this to be one of the most unique and coolest musical numbers in any video game. It was ahead of its time and definitley a standout track of the entire game...everything from the vocals to the beautiful melodies and the baseline was just great. i remember popping the game CD into my player just to listen to this track at times. =) ahh the nostalgia ... i was probly a 12 13 year old kid then.. im now 42

I Like The Sonic CD Special Stage US Music
Pro: The US Soundtrack was play on Both Good and bad future, present and other tracks.
Con: Past music only has Japanese music.
It would take longer if they redone the past music because it was built in with the sega cd and not redbook audio or the snes sound chip.

No you have to travel to the past and find a robot generator and destroy it. Also there’s a metal sonic hologram which if you destroy the animals will be free.

This is still my favorite Sonic game. People bicker over the two soundtracks (like US better) and no need. They are both masterpieces. Stardust Speedway all tracks on US version are awesome. Bad Future, especially with the "Sssstaaardust"

It is a large and wide quartz reserve in a swamp from the outside with huge mountains when you are higher in the background. Inside to the cavern, there are structures with no active quartz mines, all the quartz are intact.

I believe that Sonic CD is after Sonic 3 and Knuckles and even Triple Trouble. After Sonic and Tails stop Metal Sonic on South Island, they split way so Tails can go home and Sonic can go visit little planet.
Then after his adventure on little planet, he gets on the tornado and heads back to Angel Island to save Knuckles at the end of his run in S3&K.

@@TronicSSJ07this specific compilation does add cutscenes that connect each game chronogically, origins may not be the best way to play any of the classics, but it does confirm the canon order of the games (and it has been said a few times that it happens before sonic 2 iirc)

I'm not a big fan of Sonic CD. I loved the original Sonic games on Genesis growing up, never played Sonic CD until recently. It's like a platformer, time-traveling, less fun Sonic.
