The Sportster S I found uncomfortable being perched on top and spread out so far but that’s due to nerve damage issues in my spine acquired over a 38 year span of riding everything, dirt, trials, cruiser, cafe you name it. The 2023 Nightster Special has my name written all over it just not my wallet quite yet. Brilliant step forward for Harley despite the complaints of traditionalists. Plenty of air cooled mills left for you guys

That was great 👍. Lack of suspension on the S probably explains the balloon tires . When you moved the controls to rear it made me think that a Bronx is still possible. Perhaps a Sportster S with the Nightster suspension or at least the same amount of travel. Any way great job.

Definitely went with the Sportster S; cruise, forward controls, 121 HP, heated grips, tech package, bobber styling, flat tracker exhaust, wind-screen and tail options, were the way to go for me. The down side for me is the fuel capacity. The Sportster S should have a 4.0 gal tank; on the other hand, the firm suspension (although adjustable) is tight enough that you're going to want to get off and walk around every 120 miles or so anyways, so the extra fuel stops are not really a problem. The preload adjustment (knob) on the single rear shock is a win for the Sportster S.
Configurable ride modes is pretty hip, on the Sportster S. Although both bikes have LED all around (all modern bikes should follow suit) the pill shaped front lighting aesthetic of the Sportster S is preferable for me, and at night is really superb.

Nice acquisition. I am looking to get a Sporster S as well but all Harley die hards are telling me it’s a girls bike which I don’t understand why because it has over 120hp. I love the blue one and maybe looking to get one this summer. Only downside is that it’s damn expensive. Congratulations on your purchase. It a very nice looking bike.

    • @markh.harris9271
      @markh.harris9271 Год назад +1

@@Slopes27 , its also not a "girls bike" because of the seat height and the forward controls. Most women with short inseam will at least want the mid controls; but many will find it difficult to flat-foot the bike, and the forward controls will be out of reach for them.
The bike is 500 Lbs. It doesn't have a 5 gallon tank. It feels quite different from my Heritage Springer Softail (850 Lbs). It looks "small" and for those reasons it gets misnomered.
Motorcycle fit is more about size than gender. pegging a motorcycle as a "girls bike" is just ignorant.

      @@ed.t.hansen6499 , huh, what?
Well, for the Sportster S, you're right from the standpoint that when you 3 gal tank is empty your butt is tired anyway, and time to stretch; on the other hand obviously the reason to have a five gal tank is convenience or in rural areas where fuel stops are sparse. There have been plenty of times I wished the tank was 5 gal.

I like the bodywork style better on the Sportster S but I I hate the big fat wheels for preactical reasons I would sell the wheels forks and brakes off my S and put a donor front end (Triples and all) all off a nice Liter Sportbike along with a set of forged wheels and correct sized wheels 17" of course....And of course rearsets a lighter exhaust and a lithium battery if it does not have one new. Hopefully all that would remove close to 40ish pounds? with a lot of it being unsprung. My goal would be to finally own a Harley Sportbikej.....too bad Buell isnt still at with Harley as I think the RevMax motor could be ideal for that kind of build!

I stand at 6'1 as well and ended up going with the nightster mainly because of the handling and torque snapping on faster, I test drove both bikes back to back and the nightster hit 60 faster than the sportster S, maybe it's just me but I believe the nightster was the better buy for ME but everyone will be different. The forward controls on the Sportster S are a little uncomfortable with the handlebars and the ride position will make you uncomfortable after mer minutes on the bike, however, the nightster, I've ridden for 4-6 hours at a time and have never been uncomfortable on it. My only complaint with the nightster is the lack of accessories but it being Covid times, I understand. I simply cannot wait for Screaming Eagle to get some performance parts for the nightster on the market so I can wipe the road with every Sportster S I see.

I haven't ridden the Nightster but I did sit on the bike at the dealership. I prefer the more sporting riding position of the Sportster S. The Sportster S is very planted in turns and higher speed bends, handles nicely and encourages you to push on a bit. The ride can be hard over bumps but I didn't find it intolerable due to it's more forward leaning riding position. The bumps aren't being transmitted up through your spine as much in this position. I'll check my book but I am certain the bikes are made in Milwaukee. Also don't forget the quoted US price is missing about $2,000+ in on road costs. By the time you factor in exchange rate, on road cost and container freight, it is pretty on par with US pricing. Also the US has a weird system where the dealer can name any price they want. I am hearing that the Sportster S is selling closer to $20,000 US through many dealers

I think the nightster is way overpriced. The Scout looks better, has more power and bigger tank. (No rider modes alrighty but that is unnecessary on a sub 100hp/nm bike imo. The Sportster S is expensive but laden with electronics, has a class leading engine and a unique appeal with aggressive looks. Same price as the FTR S. I came to see a sportster ? Hmm didnt see one , i did see some new harleys but where are the sportsters , lets admit it guys , the air cooled days are coming to an end just like the kick start disappeared , you see the more tech they use the more you have to take it to them to fix ,money money money , thats all that matters , im glad im a real biker and not just a bike rider , after 2004 the sportser went crap , the transmission can only be fixed by totally seperating the cases where as my 96 i can just pull the clutch out and trap door allows me to pull the entire tranny ,super easy and motor doesnt have to be pulled completely apart , it works perfect why change it in 2004 , Harleys days are numbered they make more money from clothing then bikes now , what does that say about thier bikes ......over priced and too little too late , they should have been inovating long ago , now there trying to play catch up but not adjusting pricing .

Your knees are higher than your butt; that ruins your back/spine. ; This the sportster must have the use of forward pegs; and then show the salesman that you can't reach the handbars; !!! his solution is to spend 700.00 usd for new handlebars !!! now new $$ for pillion seat/back rest; and pegs !! Those Pass. pegs should be standard !

The Sportster S does have a quirk where if the engine stops at the approach of a compression stroke then it may pause when you try to restart the bike. But another press on the starter button and the bike fires straight to life. It happened once on the many times I started the bike on my test ride. It's not an issue for me.

I have a Nightster 975 and I would recommend spending the extra money for the Sportster S. Nightster 975 is trash biggest mistake I've made all year.
    Pros:
Tank weight low so bike feels light
    That's it
    Cons:
    Constant motor oil leak
    Low power
    Uncomfortable riding
Heat from motor burns the ankles even through pants and boots
    Way to expensive
    Small gas tank
    Under seat gas tank
Legs cramp mid controls to short even for a 5'11 person
    Cheap riding seat
    Expensive parts
Handle bars controls are the worse
I average 130 miles per full tank. Switching between riding modes really takes a toll on mpg. Road mode for street, rain mode on dirt roads, sport mode for freeways.
