    Fun fact: apparently the "cabbage guy", as he is known, was originally meant to be an one off character but fans like him so much that he appears in multiple episodes throughout the show

    There's a subtle detail in this episode, which is that whenever Katara is insecure, she's struggling with controlling advanced bending moves, such as when she started teaching Aang, she was talking herself down beforehand, whereas when in the middle of the fight with pirates, she had no problem because she was determined. That probably explains a lot of why Aang was able to pick it up so quickly, because he was just imitating her technique and also showing off, almost being overly confident.
    Katara's bending ability has varied based on her insecurity before too, the show started with her determined to catch a fish and she did with perfect control, soon after she was pissed off and destroyed an iceberg, but when she and Sokka were rescuing Aang in episode 2, she was panicking and froze Sokka's feet, after which she adapted by turning around, but she clearly didn't control her bending in that moment and just got lucky.
    Just thought it was interesting.

    7:35 Wow you have no faith in Sokka, fair you did just start the show, but he was serious when he yelled at Katara for being selfish and putting them in danger. He may be a little envious of their powers, but he's far more concerned about their safety.

      I've honestly never gotten the sense that he ever _was_ jealous of "powers" specifically. Just fears of being obsolete.
      I think they just don't like "down to earth, logical types", they seem to prefer balls to the wall crazy risk takers.

    Something I really like is that the non benders in Avatar can still be badass. The pirates using smokebombs to close the distance for fighting with weapons is a really good anti bender strategy.

    If you think about it, water and air are both fluids, so it would make sense for an airbending avatar to find waterbending quite easy, especially with how skilled Aang already is. The principles for manipulating both are likely very similar. Where it would probably get trickier is when you start having to learn how to make water freeze and melt, as there's no comparative move for airbending, but that then sets you up for the next elements of earth and fire, as you'd then have a foundation bending solids and altering temperature. It gets a bit more awkward when you think about Avatars who start on different elements, but the air-water-earth-fire cycle seems one of the easiest in terms of logical progression.
    Glad that you guys are starting to understand and appreciate Sokka and his more... chaotic form of strategic thinking. He is honestly the smartest person in the group, despite generally being the comic relief. Guile really is the best word to describe his outside-the-box, in the moment form of tactical genius.

  • @samuelclayhills3298
    @samuelclayhills3298 19 дней назад +1

    Again Zuko is extremly irritated that Iroh is potentially gambling away his chance to get home as if any rando bounty hunter gets the avatar well goodbye Zuko you are banished forever althoug considering no one had seen the avatar for almost 100 years when he was banished it probably was more of an impossible task to get him away from his family for whatever reason probably nothing good knowing what we know so far. Zuko is still way less of a dick to Iroh right now because the grace period of Iroh being imprisond is probably still going for Zuko so he is going easy on him for now. And well deep down he does love his uncle even if he annoys the hell out of him.
    I can imagine that for many girls Zuko in ths episode was a awakening. They probably would want to be in Kataras position. Ironically this ship gets more development unintentionally than the main one so stick around for that.
    Oh and Aang is starting to learn water bending and Katara is getting better at it.
    They should have asked the cabbage merchant for help he would have washed the pirates and the fire nation goons.

    22:41 Maybe it's just because I'm not a fan of dogs (or pets in general really), but it always drives me nuts when people compare other animals to dogs, or portray non dog animals as acting like dogs. We've been with dogs for a very long time, we're hardwired to recognize their body language, so om the one hand it makes sense to read animals actions in the context of that, but that can be _dangerous_ of you apply it to real life.
