This is a welcoming song for those who have had the good fortune of finding out what unconditional love really feels like, isn't it. The melody, instrumental arrangement, the lyrics, and Jerry Wallace's soothing voice remind us of the comfort, gratitude, and overall euphoria we became familiar with as we found ourselves blessed beyond belief to be with that one special person we loved... even if it was only for a moment in our lives. .

I met Jerry Wallace unknowingly at a swap meet in Beaumont, CA in the winter or spring of 1985. He had a table of various items he was selling and some household stuff on the ground and in the back of an older pickup truck. I spotted a guitar in the truck and asked him if I could check it out and he said, "Sure, hop up in the truck and give it a look see, there's cooler you can sit on." So, I did. I sat there noodling on this guitar, which I think was a Gibson that was in need of repair, but it still played OK. There was a guy in sunglasses watching and listening to me play who walked up and asked me where I learned to play guitar lick from old Bob Wills records. He and I struck up and conversation, but Jerry didn't say much - he was mostly tending to his wares and selling to customers. So, I didn't really get to meet him officially. The guy in the sunglasses was old rockabilly singer from the 50's and 60's Jody Reynolds - who had a big hit record in '58-59 called 'Endless Sleep' which I had never heard, and I'd never heard of him. I decided not to buy that guitar, so I hopped out of the truck and thanked Jerry for letting look at it. He was really nice, but he was kind of busy, so I didn't think much of it at the time. I had no idea who he was. Jody said, "Hey, I'm hungry - let's go grab a sandwich at a little place I know up the road." So, I followed him to the El Rancho Cafe, (part of the El Rancho Motel on 6th St) and we sat down and visited over coffee and sandwiches. He told me, "That was Jerry Wallace at the swap meet with that guitar you were playing. Do you remember him?" I did recall the name because my dad was big on country & western music when I was growing up, so I heard Jerry's name and his music. Come to found out, according to what Jody told me, Jerry was kinda down on his luck. He hadn't had many hits in the 80's and his record label had dropped his contract. Plus, he had went thru a divorce, and was having some health problems as well as some financial problems and his mother who lived in a duplex there in Beaumont was diagnosed with a terminal illness and was dying. So, he packed up his truck and left Nashville to go stay with his dying mother in CA while he figured out his next move. Jody and I hit it off and became good friends. He was selling cars at a used car lot across the street from the swap meet where I was a regular always scrounging for musical instruments and other stuff. So, I'd stop and visit with Jody at Cherry Auto Sales when I had time and sometimes, we would play some guitars in the office to amuse ourselves. He lived up in the mountains in a community called Poppet Flats (his technical address was Banning) and was a neighbor to former Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey Martin (whom I met briefly one day when Jody and I rode up to get the mail, Dewey was there at his mailbox. A while after meeting Jody I decided to try to find Jerry (Jody had told me where he lived) but when I went there the duplex had been cleaned out and the neighbors told me his mother had died and Jerry had gone to Los Angeles in search of new career opportunities, so I never got to see him or talk to him again. BTW - A few years earlier around 1979-80 I met Lawanda Page (Aunt Esther) from Sanford & Son TV sitcom. She was there with some of her family, and I recognized her voice. I looked up and saw her and said, "Hi! You're Aunt Esther, aren't you?" She said, "Yes, darling, I sure am!" She was really nice and sweet as could be. She had a lot of relatives who lived in Banning the next town down the highway heading towards Palm Springs. It's a small world and you just never know who you'll meet or where you'll meet them!

This is one of my top favorites and NOBODY else can sing it like Jerry - not even Jim Reeves who is great, but, Jerry is greater, he's just PERFECT! This song was made for him :) I remember the 1st time I heard it, it was in winter and it was snowing, I was on a double date with one of my best friends and our 2 guys and we were in a cozy restaurant with a fireplace and the fire burning in it and when this song came on the Juke-Box, it just made us melt, it made the whole night perfect and we kept playing it over and over, and even after all these years, very time I hear this song, my heart and memory goes back to that night in that cozy restaurant, and all of us falling in love with Jerry Wallace and this song. Thanks for the song and for the memories Jerry :)

On this day in 1964 {September 5th} Jerry Wallace performed "In The Misty Moonlight" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand...
At the time the song was at #22 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the following week it would peak at #19 {for 2 weeks} and it spent 11 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #35 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart...
Four years later in 1968 Dean Martin covered it; his version peaked #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles chart
Between 1958 and 1972 Jerry Wallace had thirteen records on the Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Primrose Lane", it peaked at #8 {for 3 weeks} on October 26th, 1959...
Starting in 1965 he had thirty-four records on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, four made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry", for 1 week on August 20th, 1972...
Jerry Wallace passed away at the age of 79 on May 5th, 2008...
    May he R.I.P.

Great song. What a distinctive voice Jerry had. I had forgotten the monologue in the middle. Fabulous. Dino does a terrific cover, too.
