I seriously love hearing you guys rant about evangelicals. It is so cathartic to hear everything ive been feeling voiced perfectly.
I was love bombed after my mom died and was made to feel like being gay was a horrible sin against god by someone that preyed on my vulnerable state. They took me to their non denominational Mega Church in Texas and promised it was different from southern Baptists. The only difference was capitalism and free lattes before service. The funny thing is this person tried to change my sexuality while secretly being "ex-gay" the entire time. When they realized they wouldnt succeed in changing me, they dropped me. It was so psychotic and weird and cruel. It has taken years to undue the emotional damage.

Peace, Strength and Courage I wish for you. I'm a 64 year old man and have been Free from Religion my entire life.
I grew up as an only child with PTSD addled parents who never intended to have children. The choices that they made from inadequate medical advice caused me to experience Complex PTSD and also resulted in me suffering for over fifty years of Chronic Pain.
My parents did the best they could given the times they lived in, I was simply collateral damage. However I felt completely betrayed by my parents and was completely isolated with no one to talk to about family dysfunction that no one talked about anyways.
At the age of fifteen I felt that for some reason I was meant to suffer and not being locked into any religiosity, I determined to reject the concept of belief, to KNOW what was happening to me, and how to live with it without going insane or contemplating ending my life every week in despair.
What I have learned is to take ownership of my predicament, and be the Boss of Me, to take responsibility for how I responded to the difficulties I was dealt with. Throughout the decades I managed, but it wasn't until I became aware that the Medical Profession and Mental Health Providers like Psychologists had finally caught up to the reality of the existence of the quality of life being lived by people like me; did I really get the validation that I was worthy of having a life worth living and with new information and knowledge from Health Professionals, I finally was able to effectively change my behavior and find some Peace.
I hold no resentment against my parents or society, because the accumulation of indescribable physical and psychological suffering that I lived with for over 50 years, gave me the Greatest Gift of All; Empathy, Compassion and Sympathy for other people who have suffered, and it didn't take Religious Faith to get there.
Another aspect that I have gained is a deep Spiritually and Knowledge that I'm not alone, which has nothing to do with Belief Concepts.
Peace 🕊 Wisdom 🦉 Protection 🦬 I hope for yourself also.

Ozempic/GLP1s work. I work for a large Cardiometabolic Alliance. We do research and the data that we have put out publicly proves that it DOES work to help diabetic, cardiac, and overweight patients. The side effects are minimal but like any medication - not one size fits all. GLP1s are also being looked at for PCOS patients and even alcoholism. People do your research from reputable sources before slamming effective treatments. Also, fight big pharma/insurance companies that aren’t allowing it to be more available/affordable. You should definitely have my boss or our Dr on your podcast because we’ve had it!

“Weight loss“ from Ozempic entails a loss of 50% fat and 50% muscle mass. Not a good way to lose weight. It works, but have to wait loss is your muscles shrinking! I am on it myself and truly want to get off. I told my doctor and he is resisting because the AMA has doctors trying to get medication and/or surgery as the only solution instead of healthier diet which is what I have done as well.
I lost 50 pounds between 2020 and 2022 and regain 10 pounds which I needed to weigh approximately 195 pounds and 6’3” tall. I am height, weight proportionate and change my a1c from 12.4 down to 6.2 and more recently down to 5.8. Diet and healthy activity is what is needed, not lots of drugs. Short term is OK, but long-term no.

Okay but let’s talk about that call for a second:
Things are too expensive. The American dream I was raised with (34f) is dead. I have a full time gov job with great benefits and still qualify for low income. I’ve been told I am more than qualified for a promotion, but that I don’t have enough direct experience to promote without a degree. So, now I’m enrolling in the fall in a bachelors and am going to inevitably take out loans. I am making net more now than I did with three part time jobs, but I’m still not living comfortably. There are no vacations on the horizon, even if I wasn’t enrolling in school.
It gets harder for every generation. At least back in 08 I could rent a room for $500. My brother’s generation (23m) is so defeated entering the job market right now after college. The entry jobs that require bachelors just don’t cover cost of living anymore either. The debt inequity in this country is unsustainable. It is no wonder we are in a nursing shortage when people have to decide between rent and daycare or continuing education and contributing to society. Shit is going to hit the fan when there aren’t enough nurses for the Boomers. We are already in a nursing crisis and very few millennials are successful enough with the expendable income to afford to put their parents into hospice. If social security and welfare cuts happen, we are screwed societally. They already don’t cover cost of living as it is.

Trendy youth pastors are the worst. My dad was a senior pastor of a Pentecostal church in the UK, and I had to go a a Christian youth camp every summer (and it was the worst. The “super spiritual” Christian kids who pretended to speak in tongues were the biggest bullies). Looking back now, so many of the youth pastors and leaders were straight up predatory. One of them left his wife for a 17 year old girl who’d been attending the church youth club he ran since she was 14 (he was thankfully kicked out of the church, but I know some churches would have probably kept him on).

Not for "free". I trade my time and life's devotion to my children instead of the almighty dollar. I do it without subsidies. But, our money suffers because a person cannot serve two masters. Whomever stays with the kids, wife or husband, someone has to be a home. Single parents have to pay someone else to raise their kids. I will continue to raise my own kids. I am not going to pay some right wing nut to poison the mind of my own child. That is a reason to get and stay married. When you have a child your life is now fused with another person. Everyone needs to stop being so damb selfish. I am speaking to men here. Create some semblance of security for yourself and children. Get serious. Grow up.

About 27 years ago in Quebec, then-Education minister Pauline Marois introduced the Centres de la petite enfance (CPE, ''Early childhood centers'') network. It's not perfect yet, but there's consensus it was a revolution and nowadays Canada's federal government is working on building its own. It helped children getting ready for school and mothers to stay at work. Moreover, it was a good investment from the State that created collective wealth, because at the end of the day more people worked and paid taxes.

The other thing I’ve had it with related to child care is the $5,000 limit on the federal Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (option to put money aside pre-tax for child care). This is a helpful way to at least alleviate taxes on child care expenses. From what I understand the $5000 limit was established in 1986 without allowance for inflation adjustment and has never been updated - in 2024 $5000 barely covers a few months of child care if that! This seems like such low hanging fruit I don’t understand why no one has pushed to update this - it’s not even asking for more money! I’ve had it.

Munjaro and Ozempic are not diet meds. They are for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, weight loss is a side effect. Some people with type 2 diabetes depend on these meds to control their blood sugar uncontrollably. Because of people who just using it for weight loss are causing the cost to go up and a lot of the time unavailable to those who need the medication.

    I would like to say,
This has GOT to be one of my favorite podcasts hands down. I am from West Virginia (more red than Oklahoma believe it or not) and grew up in a progressive family. We did go to church...but it was a church where literally everyone was welcomed. I am still a Christian (Catholic in fact), I am gay, and I am fully accepted by my entire family. All I have to say here is...Jen is right. All of the Christians who don't care about refugee children, or moms who are working three jobs to support a child, or people who are marginalized for who they are....are not pro life. No ifs, ands, or buts. Christianity has been hijacked and I find it truly hurtful and upsetting. Frankly, I cannot blame anyone who leaves the church.
Keep spreading the word of patriots Jen and Pumps!!!!

I was raised going to a Southern Baptist Church and even though I'm an introvert and don't like large social groups (anything over 4 people), I still suspected that here in TX, people, especially socialite women, smile to your face but then turn around and vote against you. And 'conservative Christians' are the worst hypocrites. The indoctrination is so destructive...it took me YEARS to get out,.
(That church was the first to go but I wanted to try different churches and I naively thought ALL Catholic churches were like the great stone Cathedrals in Europe. The look on my parents face when I said I wanted to go to a CC. It was both funny, but kinda sad that they were so brainwashed to be against it. They couldn't say why but someone had apparently convinced them that the Pope was the devil)

What we need is for the government to stop with the corporate subsidies and bail outs for companies who 1) employ FTEs that qualify for assistance b/c they are not given a living wage; and 2) compensate CEOs at a ratio greater than 40:1 (we are now at 400:1 - it was 30:1 in the 70s and 40:1 in the 80s - if your CEO is making more than that ratio, they do not need subsidies while the US Citizens are paying for food and shelter for their employees).
The IRS needs to remove tax-exempt status for any church, organization, hospital, college that does not spend a significant portion of net income on providing necessities such as food, medical help, education, clothing, shelter to those in need - that is the reason for the "tax exempt status" b/c they are supposedly providing services that the government does not need to use taxpayer funds to pay for. They should be required to provide audited financials to prove they still qualify for their tax exemption every 2 years. There also should be a wealth tax for anyone with > $900M in assets. Pentagon must be regularly audited.
There is absolutely no reason this country cannot provide 1) real living wages; 2) free or greatly reduced childcare; 3) universal healthcare; 4) decent shelter for the homeless; and 5) free community colleges and greatly reduced tuition for state schools with NO requirement for students to live in dorms which is another grift/money grab. Those are the things that are needed to level the field so that everyone has equal opportunity (OK, yes, judicial reform must also be included, but this post would be 3x the length).

Also, I agree fully with freedom from constant talk about kids or grandkids. I'm a single woman and can't count how many times I've been to business trips where we women have dinner together and that is all that the others shared about. Boring!

I'm so sorry you both were going through rather horrendous times during your kids' younger years I did not know. It's clear you both emerged as very grounded and humane people without losing your sense of humor. Jen, as you were talking about this in minute 12:00, I really started to think: this is also a podcast about human psychology---a subject I love. Thanks for being open and so clear. Subscriber for life. Much love to you both!

There is also an underlying issue with a lot of food that is deemed safe to eat and ill call out the US gvt / gvts in general. An example is we live in a world where seasonal produce is available all yr round. So the days of i cant hsve x in winter doesnt exist. Also you can buy a cucumber the size of a small car...gee that's normal (btw its a joke). I live by a theory if a food at a supermarket could survive a nuclear holocaust or be made in 2005 and has a best before date of 2040 erm...what the effin lab made chemicals are in that. Obesity is a real issue, people need help, we get older etc etc and yes organic is good (expensive but better) but not always affordable. Food shoved with processed chemicals is scary, there is a link between cancer under 50 and highly processed food. Its definitely linked to Obesity as well

All through the pandemic, liberals proudly touting the power of science, yet every liberal podcast is 1 step away from uv radiation for our tender bits. (Shoutout to Samantha Bee who launched her podcast with Makers Mark commercials). Love today's show!

I think these people lie about using Ozempic because the drug was intended for lowering A1c levels in diabetics. Weight loss was only a "good" side effect. So, I think they feel guilty for going on it just for weight loss.

They market the same drug called Wegovy for weight loss. Not all heavy people are diabetic. Some, like me, are "pre-diabetic" and Wegovy helps lower our glucose levels, also.

I went for training at the NCED in Norman a few years ago... Flying into okc was a pain in my ass. We were flying in a giant circle queue waiting to land... Along with like 12 or 13 other planes because the ground crew was understaffed 🤦
Also, I ended up in a shuttle from the airport to Norman.... It was like a fucking sailboat. The driver was like "dont worry, it gets really windy, and it pushes this bus around on the highway a bit.
Bitch .. a bit? We were from one side of the road to the other, back and forth, the driver acting all happy and unconcerned. Music was blaring, little skidding sounds could be heard over it. I was ready to puke. Little old lady next to me, in her 90s. First time out west, clutching a fist full of rosary beads and saying a prayer. The guy behind me was shaking like a dog shitting razorblades, white knuckling it, holding onto the back of my seat, pretty sure he came close to ripping it off. Driver was singing along to music, not a single fuck given. Babies screaming bloody murder, smelled like a fucking sewage plant because the air conditioner was broken and only the driver window and this little side window opened.
I got to the NCED, we couldn't get off that heap of crap fast enough. There was a woman holding a hyperventilation bag and was white as a sheet of paper.
We stood there for a minute, all I could smell was red clay. A momma duck and her babies came waddling up the hill from a pond. They started to cross the parking lot and as soon as each one of them broke the threshold of the breezeway, they were shot out of sight by the wind like a bullet. Sucked through the breezeway and into the abyss.
We all just stood there and stared ...
That's the night the lights went out in Georgia.

I love everything you say and have been an earlier adapter, but I have gotta pipe in. I have used ozympic and am currently on another drug at this point. Mostly because I can't afford ozempic, even with assistance. I was prescribed it for diabetic reasons and weight loss, but couldn't stay on it. What I would say is the popularity and the ease of the weight loss has made it very easy for lots of people who really don't need it for what it was initially plan for to make it very hard for those who would benefit from it to obtain.
And I've got to wonder about the long-term impact of a lifelong system of this. Because you may be able to slow the return weight gain without the drug. But it will eventually come back, not to mention the long-term impact on the pancreas, etc.
I would rather you talk about the impact of these drugs on the repellent 'health coaches' from the MLM Optavia B's.
    Stay strong patriots!

This is the reason they have the separation of ozempic and mounjaro with the new versions only used for weight loss, wegovy and zepbound. Hopefully with separating the two sets, it will help keep ozempic in stock and readily available.
