Someone in my area complained about a neighbor flying the Confederate flag. The local newspaper came out to investigate and it was actually the Norwegian flag. The family was of Norwegian descent and was flying the flag during the winter Olympics.🤣

I’ve always associated people that fly a flag of the U.S. in front of their house as registered republicans who like acts of performative patriotism. I liked it when the ladies also added to that point the irony of being so prideful about freedoms when all they want to do is suppress and hate gays, immigrants, and women needing reproductive health care or even child care.
Even in the 1990s before the MAGA, Trump, t- party, Sarah Palin, I used to associate “those people” with evangelical Christian’s who were glued to conservative talk radio shows like Rush Limbaugh and Dr. Laura Sheshlinger lol

as a lesbian who was raised deep evangelical southern baptist in a hellfire and brimstone church and it was AGONIZING coming out to my parents. I had back up plans and everything on where to go if they freaked. They were so much cooler about it than I imagined and ever dreamed. My mom was more afraid I was gonna tell her I was pregnant. I was 23 I think. I am super hella lucky I know, My Poppa used to be a baptist preacher so yeah it was terrifying but I couldnt NOT tell them and still be true to myself. I began dating an old friend just like 4 or 5 months later and my dad performed our wedding ceremony. But I agonized for years about telling them and how scared I was. you are so right but nthen when I told them it was 1996. We didnt have pride month then. I did go to my first parade in 2000 I think. I wish everyone could have the relationship I had with my parents. Yall it did get better. Thanks ladies I love listening to yall!!

I'm glad the bible belt has ones that practice what they preach, and stick by their family through thick and thin. My mom built up an image in her head of what I was when I came out to her when I was 14, and she wasn't really religious, so it took her awhile to come around to treating that topic with respect. Now it's "There's a cute guy here, who's real clean cut. Not feminine at all like you like. He could be gay." Even if I'm not religious, it's one reason why I support church-goers, but not the church itself. They help a lot of people get off the streets, and those who don't have a family of their own.

I was very active for Bernie during the 2016 elections - I was a delegate. I live in Iowa. I was at a protest here when DJT came to speak. There was a Trumpette marching back and forth in front of the venue, carrying a confederate flag - I mean, a HUGE flag. The ENTIRE crowd of protesters was jeering at her: "This is Iowa, you idiot! We fought for the Union!"

Anytime I'm feeling down or get depressed I turn to the google comments on the Ark Encounter: Life Size Noah's Ark in Kentucky. Before long I'm laughing myself silly at what people post. Comments like, "it's a true depiction of what the bible tells us" to "I cannot wait to go back next year" to "What a great educational experience." Then others will comment about the earth being only 6,000 years old and how accurate the dioramas are that depict man walking around with dinosaurs. It's great fun to do this. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

I have traveled the world as a performer and seen incredible examples of human accomplishment and I have to say that the Ark Encounter is something I wish to encounter. I want to see the actual ark. I mean that somebody took the time and spent the money to build such is thing is impressively indulgent and ridiculous, but mostly I just want to listen to what my fellow visitors have to say about it.
There's a subreddit called "AccidentallyLiberian" which collects all these online posts where someone has accidentally used the Liberian flag in place of the US one.
I'm a 44 year old aunt of 7 ages 33 to 13, I'm all for kids being kids but when it comes to this behavior in an enclosed area with others just wanting to enjoy a nice quiet flight, let alone with a grown ass dad with the same behavior and the mother not calling them out, that's an unacceptable display of manners....

I agree ladies, people who do not teach their children or give them an example of proper behavior drive me crazy. When I was a kid my mother who was very strict about manners and proper behavior only had to snap her fingers if I or my sisters started to get a little loud or weren't behaving, and that is all it took. My parents took us to a very nice restaurant when we were very young, they wanted to turn us away because they did not allow kids, this was the 1960s, and my mother assured the host that we would behave, she said at the end of the meal they gave us free desert because we did behave and did not disturb anyone, so you see it is possible.
Ladies, that's it. After hearing most of this list, we really need that next asteroid. Seriously, we're getting to the point where we're too stupid to live, and we're advertising it.

My grandchildren think they can scream at the top of their lungs when I watch them. They won't listen to me. At bedtime, I refused to read a bedtime story to them because of their behavior. They were SO upset. They never stayed with me again, their choice.

I called a company for carpet cleaning, after the job was completed, the bill came up with a tip. The lowest was 18%, I gave 18% and the following weekend I went I bought my own heavy duty carpet cleaner. Another one that pissed me off is having to tip after an oil change, I never changed my oil at that place again.

The problem with a lot of these stupid people is that they grew up thinking they were smart and "you can't tell me nothing because I know what I know." Meaning what they misheard or imagined or whatever. My daughter-in-law is a teacher and has observed that the "you can't tell me nothing" attitude is far too often inherited, especially in religious or well-off families.
At 7 years old this kid is eligible for military boarding school. 😂

I had a 17 hour flight from Thailand with two kids doing this shit alllll the way home. I was literally going insane
I have also made the mistake of using the Liberian flag, when I was 13 and new to emojis. It took me a brief, conscious and mature period of time in a HS American government class to recognize some of the flags that have been universally approved by the emoji council and realize that the flags (while not named in the emoji UI) are sorted alphabetically. The US will always be just a few rows from the bottom.
Also, there are like a dozen "Dixie era", Confederate and secessionist flags available. Kinda weird.
Re: that first stupid, one of my “had it”s is that LOTS of people speak as though Africa is a single country. That woman is not alone. And with 30+ years in IT I can tell you LOTS of people also do not know how to do an internet search correctly to get the answer they need.

I was a teenager in the 1970's. Just viewed a home type movie of a family of 4 kids with mom traveling to Sears to buy school shoes. Mid 1970's. Mom drove a 2-door Ford Torino. The kids piled in. The doors creaked and the car was hard to start. No seat belts used. The kids were smiling, happy, and healthy.
Everyone was skinny as a rail. No one had tats, piercings, revealing cloths. Everyowere in the store was quiet, polite, and centered. When people spoke, they looked you in the eye - including the young kids. All the men had a full head of hair.
If I could take a microwave with me I'd go back in a second. We played outside all day. We were explorers and master builders: forts and igloos in the winter. We had an expectation of privacy. Music was amazing. It would be unthinkable for people to act out in public in the 1970's. Our culture is devalued.

I don't think it was the nice couple that is always out front begging for money. It had to be one of the ones from behind the store. They are also panhandling too. This is a scam. They are making 2 to 3 hundred dollars a day and are living a better life than most of us"
Ok lady. First off, these people are HOMELESS AND LIVING IN A TENT BEHIND WALMART!!! How is this better? Second, it makes me wonder what your living conditions are.
And what time of the day were you there? Any Walmart I've been to is too crowded in broad daylight and very well lit at night. Probably not a good idea for a person living there and being seen everyday to break into cars when someone can easily identify them.

As a proud escapee of the south, after living in NYC for a year, let me just say parenting is handled wayyyy differently here. Hands off parenting is the way it goes normally. It’s wild and hard to get used to.

Children's eardrums often can not handle the pressure changes, especially during the flight's descending. They scream (often enough) because it really hurts. Hard candies, chewing gums, or chips that help with jaw muscle help release the pressures.

I know almost everyone pronounces asterisk the way you do -- "asteriks" -- but it still counts as a half demerit.
That horse has left the barn and I've had to let it go. Pretty much.
But what I will not allow to be normalized is the use of THEN in place of THAN, or vice versa. (BTW, like asterisk, vice versa is pronounced exactly as it is spelled. Not vice-a versa.)
THEN and THAN are not interchangeable. They’re not even homonyms. Mixing them up gives the impression you've never read a book.
