This tutorial series are the pure treasure on RUclips. I am junior indie game developer and I learned blender in 2 days for my basic needs with this guy. He shows exactly what u need to know and how to think. Learning with understanding! Bro thank you so much and keep up the good work! I will follow you always!
I got thrown ass-backwards into trying to learn Maya in college with virtually no guidance besides “idk find a tutorial on Lynda” & had such a bad time that it put me off 3D modeling for almost decade. I wanted to give 3D another go and heard Blender is more user friendly, and this tutorial has been really great so far! Thanks so much for this amazing resource! ⛄️
For some reason the bevel was not working for me. I managed to get it working with this information online: go into Edit mode, select everything. Go to the menu in the top left corner of the viewport. and hit Mesh > Clean Up > Merge by Distance.
Amazing this was only published this year. I thought I was too far gone to learn 3D modeling, but glad to see there is someone teaching new things every day. You have a new Patreon supporter for sure!
Takes me 2 hours to do one of these videos with taking notes, trying this myself, and going back and forth trying to get the snowman to look close enough to yours. I am learning. Thanks for providing these tutorials.
Love the Tutorial. I must say this is the hardest beginner friendly Tutorial Series. Example is the top hat. I must have gone into wireframe couple of times for the hat. Also, I am so bad at shortcuts that I increased the view on the side and saw the words and did it that way, but still remembering some shortcuts. Thanks!
The "a" toggle setting is priceless! So at 3:33 in the timeline I am already commenting to thank you Ryan :D Now Im going back to the tutorial which I'm sure is replete with more tips and tricks.
These tutorials are heaven sent. I just started learning blender 6days ago for the first time using your series and mhenn Ryan you are the best. I'm just about to conclude the part Iv of this series. Thank you so much. One question though, when I move the eye created from the Ico sphere to the face or any part of the snowman, the eye disappears inside/into the face or pretty much any part of the snowman i move it to. I dunno if I explained this issue well enough. Thanks.
Amazing good Tutorials. I watched so many different Channels and you are by far top standing out! Thanks for all the work. As soon I have some money I will donate for sure. The only tiny thing I would recommend as you are probably a fulltime professional, would it be to hard for you to learn the left click selection? I think with your exoerience and skills you would memorize super fast, as you don't have to concentrate on other basic keys anymore. Maybe it would be even an interesting challange for you. Then would be no more explaining and confusion "why is he pressing RMB?". If you don't it's also ok for me. As long you don't stop your great work! :)
10:30 For anyone else running into the issue that holding Alt when trying to select the entire loop is not doing anything, check to see if "Emulate 3 button mouse" is selected in the Preferences; un-ticking that option resolved the issue for me.
Hi, yes I have a problem there, it is selecting the right loops but when I size it sets the starting point at where I clicked and NOT the centre of the mesh.. I created the cylinder multiple times now but its the same every time, very annoying since I am not doing anything different :(
When making the arm at around 17:01 you detach the plane and are able to freely move the whole arm yet mine is still attached to the original location of where I first created the plane. I've hit G to grab and move it but it only elongates the edges and doesn't actually move the arm. What do I do to fix this?
Fore some reason, bevel isn't working on the top hat for me 😭 Didnt see any change even with the exact same preset on the exact same object. But when I hit shade smooth, it turns black. Followed the tutorial super slowly and to the T. Even made a second hat on the side altogether. Still the same thing. I gave uo on that part snd just shaded it auto-smooth. Hopefully it doesnt mess me up later.
just had the same problem and solved thanks to another comment under this video. go into Edit mode, select everything. Go to the menu in the top left corner of the viewport. and hit Mesh > Clean Up > Merge by Distance.
@@lattosioaccidenti5118 tried it. Didn't work. I even made a few extra hats lol It is what it is. I kept going. My hat will just be a little different 😂
@@Rtz89 I found that Blender was having issues applying the bevel when the duped ring of vertices sat on the brim of the hat, rather than pulled under. Try moving them down a bit and see if it suddenly applies
10:20 Holding down alt key (option in mac) doesn't work for me. When i click, it doesn't select the loop as intended. very annoying because I have to painstakingly select every face to do what you do in the video. EDIT: I figured out that if you have "emulate 3 button mouse" checked in the input settings, you wont be able to select a loop. Thats....quite inconvenient as I prefer to NOT use middle click so often and it fatigues my hand fairly fast.
You are perfect at explaining; I'm so glad to find you. there is a problem here, I have a Macbook, and I cannot find the hotkey for the subdivision. Can you guide me pls.
yo idk if this is a new update im using blender 4.1 and i dont have shade auto smooth, its showing shade smooth by angle, which does the same thing i believe but then when you add the modifier, the top edge of the hat does not change at all in 14:40
i dont know if you've solved this issue another way but the way i ended up "solving it" was by making a top hat off of the snowman. I didn't put the shader on before the bevelling either. I have no idea why this worked but I have had this exact same issue and have been trying to get the hat to work for over an hour haha. I've tried many things but just making a new hat not on the snowman let me bevel the edges.
idk if its cause im joining at a later update, but when i do the auto smooth shader around 14:43 - ish, it shows as a modifier now, how come it doesnt work with bevel either? i did do the clean up -> merge vertex at distance too ... nothing
Wondering why the plane used to provide the vertex to create an arm was created in the hat. Why not just create the plane outside the model since the arm is going to be moved anyhow?
i have completed branching by extruding but facing problem in rotation of tree branches in house modeling beginner series g and r key are working only front plane not in all direction
Hi, having difficulty highlighting the circumference of the brim with selecting + Alt. I can only do a row of vertices, then manually go around the brim to highlight them all. Tried it several times, nothing works. Really aggravating.
make sure you are in vertex select mode. Then hold down the Alt key and left click on the edge, in between two of the vertices. Then to select more loops, Hold down Alt and Shift, and keep Selecting.
@@RyanKingArt Hi again, thanks for responding! - Vertex select mode, check. Alt + left click on edge, check. The circumference still doesn't highlight - still have to manually go around and rotate the object to get the circumference highlighted. I work on a Mac, if that makes any difference
Hey, I know this was months ago, but I ran into the same issue. For me, I had "Emulate 3 Button Mouse" enabled under 'Preferences -> Input -> Mouse' which apparently disables the alt+click behavior. To re-enable I unchecked "Emulate 3 Button Mouse", and then went to 'Preferences -> Keymap -> Preferences and checked "Alt Tool Access". Be sure to save the preferences afterward, which for me is located in the bottom left of the preferences box, in the hamburger menu. I hope this helps!
I think I have the same problem as @bawkah 6 months ago. Resizing the brim seems to be centred on the point or edge last selected. I could fiddle it to get the resizing based on the centre of the object, by switching vertex/edge modes and then resizing. But you didn't do that. Is there a system setting to change?
And rotating the hat seems to be about the 3d cursor, not the origin of the hat. I have spent an hour on this, pressing the buttons you suggest and not seeing any repeatable pattern in the behaviour.
thanks! You can watch the starting of the first part of the tutorial series, where I cover all of the parts, and tell you what we will make in each part. I'm also posting one part each day of the tutorial series on my channel.
I think I've messed up somewhere lol. When I try scaling the bottom half of the top hat it doesn't scale proportionately (one side always ends up skewed/lopsided). How are you getting your hat so even when your 3D cursor isn't centered on the object (if that makes sense?) My hat only scales proportionately when I have the cursor centered (in shift+c) but then when I try to scale the bottom half of the hat inward it becomes really long and goes INTO the snowman. When I move the 3D cursor anywhere higher up on the hat to fix THAT issue, the cursor isn't centered on the object and thus one side becomes skewed. I have a feeling I'm majorly overthinking it, but I'm lost. 🥲

why cant i extrude after adding plane and merge at centre ?????
make sure to select vertex in edit mode .....
Yeah using vertex select is best 👍

Solved it from something early in lesson 5! It's to do with the "Transform Pivot Point" setting (next to the snapping magnet).
When I am extruding or scaling it seems to always scale from where my 3d cursor is and not from the centre of what I am trying to scale?
Whenever I add the plane and hit merge to center. It does not let me extrude. Anyone else having this issue?
select vertex in edit mode
