watching SAO as it released and then reading the books as they were translated, I came to the realization that if this technology were to ever become a reality, I wouldnt be the main character of the game. and it's not because I wouldnt be good at the game or that I wouldnt have the technology to play it. instead it would be for the simple reason that I would be the old man fishing at the lake by the time it actually is a thing haha

I think we can get to a point like in the movie ''Ready Player One'' in the next 10-20 years, but to get to SAO level is something completly different, we're talking about a technology that is capable of literally control your consciousness giving visual environments to users as well as being able to control all their senses, all that being connected through a neural interface as we've seen in the anime. I think to reach this level it'll take us at least to 50-60 years as it's a completely different technology from these headsets, one uses actual reality and the other uses your brain to portray reality, they're totally unrelated.

@VRelity but it wouldnt be sao, what ur describing in the video is a small fraction of what sao offers. There's no touch, taste, smell, temperature, pain. Only motor control. So it's like a 1/5th dive

i feel like if they end up making a SAO full dive game in the future, Hopefully without the dying IRL part, but make it hardcore, if you die you Fully restart the game, that would give it a close to authentic feel with the dying system.

If the option was ever open, i'd definitely take it - the concept of an escape from reality would DEFINITELY be best in this day and age (Only flaw - I'd probably end up being the voice of reason for guilds - don't want someone to end up like Sachi because of their guild's recklessness, after all) - if there were any others, i'd say either Tamriel or Genshin Impact

You want a realistic recipe for a real full dive? Its nothing like VR headsets
1. Neuralink = direct brain image, audio and data/information back-to-back streaming and full body stimulation simulation
2. "unknown device" = full body paralyze to prevent you from moving irl while moving in virtual world
We need these two to realise the full dive.

1:13 I would like to point out that even in the SAO world. B.I.C (Brain Implant Chip) didn't start being used until around 2030. This was stated in Accel World. Also, it was a short lived project. As it was shortly replaced by Nero Link devices used in that anime.

I hope palmer luckey makes a great SAO inspiration, MMO RPG game, and FullDive VR. But his own VR headset is really deadly. But if it's a game over for real life for me, i will die. And i will do so bravely. Which Fulldive VR MMO RPG game for inspiration of SAO?

3. Champions VR online (which is a superhero MMO RPG)

would be a dream come true
One problem: Without the ability to induce sleep paralysis this technology will never be enough for a full dive. I mean, we've had neural interface devices and eye tracking VR for over a decade already (I know because I own one of each) and, sure, they can be used to control quite a bit, but unless you can turn off the signals in the brain that tell your arm to move it won't feel natural.
The good news is that the technology to achieve this wirelessly already exists. Through focused EM fields a machine around the size of an MRI can and has been used to take control over a person's speech centers. They would be instructed to resist talking, but the machine would be able to compel them to talk. Inducing sleep paralysis would likely be simpler. This is not portable, but to achieve that we just need to look at the magnetic wormhole tech which was developed a few years ago. This allows a simulated monopole which, when fully developed, will allow an MRI the size of a smart phone. This also means that it should be very possible to have such a thing inside a neural interface device in the future.
The technology required to achieve sleep paralysis, however, would also be useful in mind control technology. For good, such a technology would allow your body to be working in a factory while you play a game. For evil, we might see hackers try to jack bodies. An SAO style game over would also be possible by disabling the brain stem. Given these risks I expect that it will be a long time before the technology is mainstream.
If we go the surgical route, however, there's also techniues that will allow non-invasive implantation. Robotic needles can travel through your veins while sedated to travel to your optic nerve and implant a device which would allow you to experience VR or AR without a screen. If it's not possible to induce sleep paralysis via this nerve another could be used just as easily. Such technology already exists and when fully developed could allow you to be implanted within 15 minutes. There'd be no risk of damage to your brain and the procedure would be both painless and reversible. Of course, it would probably need to be driven by AI who would need to be programmed to determine the best route via fractal geometry. Knowing the fractal pattern of your circulatory system would allow accurate predictions of where to move and is a technique surgeons are already starting to use to minimize damage to the body.
Now THAT is the future I am looking forward to: VR and AR without a screen, but I would want a way to physically turn it off because of a prediction made in "Ghost in the Shell" though where one resulting problem was the ability to hack eyes to render a swat team invisible. I can easily see government agents pushing for a back door to eyes for that purpose which would then result in criminals doing the same.

Yes if it was possible now it might be really buggy and probably alot of stuff will not work, but how will they know to fix stuff like that if there just gonna do it from the computer. For those that dont know, Sword Art Online bleeds into Accel World. Same creator. And Accel World talks about various versions of Nerce gear, from the helmet, to the smaller "safer" crown version, to the "musk like" brain implant chip that became illegal, to the neckband (which is the main tech used in Accel World. Looks like those wireless headphone neck bands we have now)

it is really just ethical issues holding back the development of a genuine nerve gear... like the nerve gear its self blocks signals your brain sends to the body and rewrites the signals in the headpiece, people would freak out if they can't move their body because they put on a VR mask and there's the possibility it could cause permanent damage, potentially making people paralyzed
but the use AI to generate your characters face would be sick asf if they combine that with the tech that can see your facial expressions just a small upgrade and then you can literally be yourself in VR

I've been reading the comments for 10 minutes straight... Are you all so sick of real life you'd actually consider suicide?! It's honestly depressing reading so many comments and replies saying: "Even if I die irl I'd full dive." I even saw one reply saying "If there is no risk it's not worth it. I want the risk." I can't believe what I'm seeing! Are you guys ok? Do you need a dozen hugs, emotional support, and actually good therapy?! It sounds like it to me!
Aside from that, the whole full dive thing will never go how everyone here thinks it will. SAO, if it were to exist, would not be the fantasy you would like it to be. As cool as it would be, that's just not how things work. Why do you think companies make games? Money. With the way things are going now, if they sold a full dive game or console on the premise of full emersion, how would they continue to make money from players who already own the game or console? That's right, data. Think about it, the full dive would have to read nearly all of your brain's inputs to put them into the game(s) you are playing as well as send inputs for your brain to register. That's data from literally reading your mind! Any ads from related or connected platforms would be tailored to your deepest thoughts some of which you may not know consciously. That data could also be stolen in the case of a malware attack and oh look there goes your bank account information you memorized and into the hands of criminals. However, this isn't just a one way problem. The full dive can input what ever the simulation programmers see fit. This could mean brainwashing the mind to buy more of a company's product when you leave full dive. Malware attackers could overwhelm users's brains and cause them all to become braindead causing the death of thousands. Terrorist attacks may become common place in full dive. That doesn't even account for malfunctions that could kill the brains of users. Now if a corrupt government were to have access to this technology, oh boy. My point is this is a really bad idea! Are you all really ok with how dangerous this would be even in a working and secure scenario?! I for one am not. You lot are crazy if you still want full dive in the world we live in. The Full Dive you want is and always will be nothing but an unachievable fantasy. That's that.

Why dot thay instead of putting pain from the head set you wear a suit that gives you the pain
What I’m not as much interested in is the full dive, as the actual game, I feel with our current devices (gloves, VR treadmills, haptic suits) it would still be an extremely enjoyable experience as long as someone actually goes out and makes the game, that’s the biggest block, not the technology.
