I remember Jason Campbell saying after this game that he couldn't believe how good USC's defensive line was. He said he didn't know anyone had a defensive line like that in college football!
That's what SC is missing these days and that's what really separated them from the rest of the Pac12 (Pac10 then). They had alll the best Southern Cali Dlinemen that were available. Nowadays they're so invested in their Air Raid offense, it's taken away from everything else. They were so balanced back then. They were WRU, DBU, RBU, QBU, DLU, LBU.
@@hiphoprbloverjon9180 USC beat an Auburn team that was nowhere near as experienced, talented, or coached as the team in 2004. At the very worst, it would at least have been closer than Oklahoma got
Riley Black well the same with this usc team it was nowhere as good as the 2004 team reason espn ranked the 2004 squad as the 2nd best team in history behind 71 Nebraska
@@rileyblack4415 In 2002 and 2003 Auburn played a Home and Home with USC, in those two years they went 16-9. In 2004 Auburn did not play USC and went 13-0. USC from 02-04 went 36-3. Losing 3 games by a combined 13 Points, or 10 fewer Points than Auburn gave up in this game...........
Sam "BAM" Cunningham and John Papadakis went to that game as guests of Pete and the team, commemorating the historic 1970 game at Alabama, vs. the all white Crimson Tide team in the segregated south. I was lucky enough to go to a wearesc.com dinner at Papadakis Taverna the Wednesday night after the game. There I sat across the table from Sam Bam, and John P. The two of them talked about going back to Alabama, and their experiences from 1970 and 2003. It was awesome, and the start of an amazing run for USC Football.
THOSE SEC TEAMS DONT LIKE TRAVELLING OUT OF THE SOUTH! NICK SABAN SURE DO KNOW HOW MANIPULATE A SCHEDULE TO HIS FAVOR. ALWAYS A DIVISION 2 TEAM ON THE SCHEDULE AND NO TRAVELING OUT OF THE SOUTH.
@Jesse Gibson, I am not a fan of that all. My beloved VOLS would play anyone, I remember Kiffin at USC tried to schedule Tennessee on the schedule. Alabama recently over the years started to play better competition because Saban changed that, but before that they would not play USC, Clemson, and etc. I love competition and I think that we (SEC) should play higher caliber teams. I know monies have control of all of that lol.
How in the World Did SC Start this season at #8 when the season earlier, they Finished 3 or 4? I know Matt Lienart was a Freshman this season but still, they returned a Load of talent. No Doubt SC Beats LSU at the conclusion of this season had they not been passed up for OU.
USC lost arguably their Best QB and S ever. Now Ronnie Lott might say something, but losing Palmer and Polamalu in the same year.... Ca'Mon, how many schools can survive that and end up better? USC!
Kelly Fontes I am a SEC guy all the way, I respected USC. I would have love to have seen them play UF when Tebow was there and LSU. Those were the the teams that were national contenders 2006-2008. Do not judge, I am a loyal VOL fan #GBO
I totally understand the modern scheduling politics more than ever for college football. When two highly ranked teams especially out of conference football powers play at the beginning of the season, a loss potentially guarantees you're not going to play in any major BCS (or now CFP) championship game. I talked to a friend who is a UF fan. And he says that UF caters to their fans early in the season which is why they don't play highly ranked out of conference teams early in the season. Despite USC dominating and shutting down Auburn, I gave praise for both programs playing this game. To date, this USC vs Auburn game was one of the most anticipated games ever early in the season.
One thing I love about SC is they will go anywhere and play anyone.
Yup Bear Bryant used to do it in the 70s .
Nobody does that. Even Alabama. Alabama is the worst at doing that. They always pad their schedule. Get real.

When someone tells you that Auburn would have won the 2004 championship, remind them of this beating. The '04 USC team was ever better than this one.
Auburn went 8-5 in 2003, this team was nowhere near the team that went undefeated
@@rileyblack4415 They still would've lost. 2 years in a row we spanked that Southern ass.

Correct but it’s funny how the lower tier SEC teams are willing to travel like Tennessee.

It's so much fun to go back and watch this after all these years. Almost as much fun and living through it while it was actually happening....✌✌
During the Pete Carroll era he DOMINATED the S.E.C.
His defense knows how to stop the run
4-0 vs the SEC.
I remember missing this game because I helped my sister move and there was no RUclips to watch the highlights on.
So satisfying on so many layers
