Happy Halloween 2023! Here's my treat for this year. I recently ordered the Daredevils pulp adventures RPG boxed set directly from Fantasy Games Unlimited. In just a few days this excellent role-playing game was delivered to my door for a total of $18 USD. These rules can be used for adventurous archaeologist, interwar espionage, or even occult detective type games.
Fantasy Games Unlimited is one of the old guard of tabletop role-playing game publishers. They publish such excellent games as Aftermath!, Bushido, Flashing Blades, Privateers & Gentlemen, Space Opera, and Wild West. One of the founding principles of the company was to keep the rights to the games in the hands of those who created the games. There were some hiccups along the way; but, that's a effort that I always wanted to support.
Here's a link to their website:

Fantasy Games Unlimited is still producing new materials, with the same great quality that they've had since 1975, so consider trying out more than one of their fun games! Please note that I am not in any way compensated for this praise; I really do just love FGU's games, and have for a long time. I received the Bushido game, as a present, back in the early 1980s, and have played many of their titles since that time. Some of the older titles may be a bit more rules "crunchy" than contemporary games; but, they're well worth the effort to learn.

I know there are some moments early in this video where nothing is happening on the screen. I definitely got a little excited about both doing the unboxing, and uploading on Halloween, especially since I was not expecting such speedy delivery. I mainly wanted to show what was in the box, and also show that the game was still available as a reasonably priced boxed set. Thanks for spending your time checking this video out!

Many thanks for checking out the video and posting. I've been very happy to see this video still getting some views, and seeing that there are still other FGU fans out there. I've been super-slow with trying to get videos out lately, mainly because I've been caught up with a lot of offline stuff. I definitely appreciate the offer to play, and have just picked up a reasonably decent microphone; my schedule is pretty hectic at the moment though, so would be highly dependent on meeting time and interval. My state is on a July to June budget cycle, so July is one of peaks for the season; I'll have another spike in October when the federal budget cycle hits, but a lot that work doesn't get started until Spring.
On a Daredevils related note, one of the videos that I'd like to get soon is a character creation one. I was planning on just doing the basic, and circling back around to the advanced later. Cheers!

@@Archaeo_Matt A character creation video would be great, even the basic one is quite detailed.
I'll let you know about the game when it's all prepped.

@@jnov3655 Excellent! Yeah, there are still a lot of options to the basic character. When I get around to running some games myself, I don't want to saddle potential players with the using the Careers restrictions. I will definitely include the Talents though, as I use them as part of the core mechanics for my own system (which is heavily based on the Charrette/Hume BCS system).
After character creation, I'll probably do the next one on time keeping, detailed actions and options, the Task system, and Movement. Cheers!
EDIT: As an aside, since you're also playing Bushido, that's one of the bases for my magic system, along with SPI's DragonQuest, and Chaosium's Stormbringer (2nd ed).

@@jnov3655 DQ is a brilliant game! The 2e version is the best way to go, although some supplements from its TSR 3e era are available. The DQPA (dragonquest.org), and the DQWiki (dq-nz.org) are both greath resources. The New Zealand group has added a lot of great stuff to DragonQuest. Their 2014 update to the official rules in definitely worth a look.

I have always been a big fan of FGU. But I outside the U.S. and as far as I am aware FGU won't ship outside the U.S. and the only copies of their games are used.

Firstly, thanks for checking out the video, and for posting a comment. I'm always especially glad to hear from other FGU fans! Sorry to hear that you haven't been able to arrange for international shipping through them. I know the FGU website lets you select countries outside the U.S, in the Shipping Address section; but, I can't say I've tried to register an actual address from outside the U.S. I'm not entirely surprised; I'm not sure how much infrastructure they really have currently, so any international shipping would probably be at the max rate for a one-off shipment.
It's not much help if you really want physical copies, but they do offer pretty much everything for PDF download from the FGU website. I think you can also go through DriveThruRPG if you already have an account there; but, again, I can't say much about trying to ship internationally. They probably would like to work it out, so it might be worth it to email them directly; however, I'm guessing the cost for shipping a regular one-person order might be too cost prohibitive to make it worthwhile.

@@Archaeo_Matt I tried to order from the website a few times a while a ago but got "does not ship to your location". I have a lot of the PDFS and a bunch of physical copies of a lot from the 80s and 90s which are very battered. I got jealous when I saw you opening a physical Daredevils as mine is in pretty poor condition. Never actually got a chance to play Daredevils although in the distant past I have played Bushido and Aftermath! a few times . I am hacking together a sheet for Daredevils for the Foundry VTT so hopefully I will get to play sometime in the future if I ever get the sheet finished.

@@walts4425 Thank you for posting confirmation that international shipping cannot be arranged through the FGU website. I wish it were better news. I was shocked to learn that there were still some unopened boxed sets of _Daredevils_ available; so, I had to grab one. I could use a box for my Bushido books, too; I still have my original books, but the box got destroyed many years ago.
I'm definitely interested in your character sheet for Foundry. I don't have much experience hosting a VTT (I had a version of Map Tools running at one point, but never used it to play anything), but Foundry is the one I have my eye on, since it's open source and can be self-hosted.
I'm really a bit excited to see that this video has been getting some hits recently. When I first posted it, it got very few views; and, of those, one person unsubscribed. So, I figured I better stay with D&D only until I get some traction for the channel. I would really like to do at least a one-shot online, just so people can see the BCS system in action. Cheers!

I still want to do some more videos on _Daredevils_ leading to doing some actual plays, but this video got so few views that I figured I'd have to wait until I'd raised my own profile a bit more to actually get this game some traction. It really is a fun game, and a great introduction to Charrette's and Hume's Base Chance of Success (BCS) system. Cheers!

@@olafbuddenberg4787 That's actually very cool, and somewhat astonishing! I became a big supporter of FGU during the summer of 1983 because of their commitment to let game creators retain the right to their works. I've met very few people that were fellow fans of the games. My favorite is actually _Bushido_ although that has a lot to do with my love of chanbara movies. I'll probably try to expand in that way, too, as well as _Aftermath!, Flashing Blades, Privateers & Gentlemen, and Wild West._ I'd also like to include _Space Opera_ although that was the game I actually have the least personal experience with myself. Cheers! I'll pass along your greetings to the little blue girl! 😸

@@Archaeo_Matt - I guess you're right to call it astonishing. I hail from Germany and it is even more rare to find gamers here who like FGU, or have even heard of their RPG lines. Just the other day I decided to add FGU's pdfs to my digital collection. Started with Daredevils, Space Opera, and Wild West. The rest will follow. In physical form I own Daredevils and 4 of the adventures, along with one or two miscellaneous games ("Tyrannosaurus Wrecks"). I used to own more FGU games (Freedom Fighters, Aftermath!) but some years back I made the now often regretted decision to sell off some of them. The reason was that I never got them to the table because my players always wanted to play other stuff. So you could say I am somewhat of an academic admirer of their work. :)
Recently, a German publisher (Ulisses Spiele) did a deluxe reprint of FLASHING BLADES (in a first-ever German translation)! Immediately got that book.

@@olafbuddenberg4787Sadly, I understand all too well no longer having old RPG stuff. I cannot even say I got the benefit of selling it; I pretty much lost things here and there from moving around a lot when I was young and reckless.
That's really great news that there are recently produced localizations/translations. I was pretty excited when I realized FGU was still selling and shipping games. I was looking for ways to contribute to RUclips that weren't already being done by many others, and bringing these great games back people's minds seemed like a great choice for me.
