Thanks for sharing. Looks like the art is scanned in Black/White, and cleaned up for printing. I would have preferred a full color scan to catch the artwork in it's original form. When the art is cleaned up in printing we don't get to see the little pencil marks, notations, or inking corrections, all the personality of the artist's hard work. Carl Barks is an artist I'm particularly would love to see his comics in it's most original form to get deeper look into the artist. This book looks like an oversized reprint of his comics in BW, which is nice to have, but not the "Original" Art Edition that the book markets it's self. Even if Barks worked this clean in his original art we would see a variety of black tones in the ink instead of a flat crisp black. Alot of times artists would draw a scene, but choose to black over portions in shadow, in printing we would never tell the difference, but in the original art we can see an underdrawing below the black washes. Anyway, nice coffee table book, Barks is great.

This was printed from the original Western Publishing master plates. The original ink art, with all the pencil marks you describe, no longer exists -- it was all destroyed by Western Publishing decades ago. So, the master printing plates, taken directly from the art, is the best we can hope for. Also, for what it's worth, the few original Barks pages I've seen that somehow survived are pretty darn clean, with maybe some faint blue pencil lines here and there. Barks did a thorough job erasing pencil marks, I think.

@@jonnygman100I see! Thanks for the reply. Maybe they should have marketed it as a Master Plate Edition? I’m glad that I was able to catch your preview because I would have expected scans of the Original Art.
Yes Barks was as clean an artist as they come, still there are production notes, register marks, and various paste ups that drive my interest in seeking out these Original Art books.

You’d have to take that up with the publisher. 😂
