    Ford Taurus is the best car I ever owned. 2011, 106k miles, and zero problems. I wonder If the kind of oil they use or change intervals have any reason the go out? I know a lot of these cars have 200k plus and not a problem.

    Man I'd hire you to fix my car anytime! I like the honesty in your diagnosis and the time you took to remove the engine. Even when it seems like a longer process, you explained why you did. By the way, anywhere you know of I can pick up a working 3.5 ford engine? $900? Sold!

  • @chadlaine805
    @chadlaine805 3 года назад +1

    Had the same issues with 2011 ford edge 3.5, lots of broken water pump debris in the oil pan, timing was off a few teeth because water pump pulley was so bad like this one. I did the job in the car and took my time, cleaned the oil pan best I could and put all new timing components and water pump. Did have to tweak timing back in while chain was off, but car is back together and running great. Doing early oil changes for a little an she should be good 👍 I will say if these engines are ran or restarted much after this failure then it can cause permanent damage, best case scenario is if it stops running and there is no coolant left, do not try to restart it.

    • @Leekautorepair

      I agree. If u knew the water pump failed and kept driving then yes u can cause permanent damage to other parts. Stop immediately and get it fixed!

    Do you recommend replacing the timing chain and water pump on these engines before swapping the engine

    • @jessea6503
      @jessea6503 4 года назад +1

      the recommended water pump change interval from Ford is 100K. he mentioned this car had over 160K. But yeah i would definitely change the whole timing chain kit. tensioners, chain, water pump, spark plugs, and new coolant. Get OEM water pump and timing kit. well worth it if u wanna go another 100K+ without problems.

      Leek just to let you know, you should replace the water pump on the new engine before putting it in. A few people did that when they had to replace their 3.5/3.7 engine due to the water pump taking out the engine. I was very fortunate when my water pump started to go that I caught it in time. It happened with 66k on the odometer. I had the water pump replaced by the dealer under warranty and so far so good.

  • @R85DAVID

    This just happened to my car, 2012 ford taurus. I'm taking your advice ill have my mechanic change the entire engine. The Ford dealer was charging $2300 just to get the water pump changed, timing , and solenoids changed with no guarantee that the car will run afterwards.

    • @Leekautorepair
      @Leekautorepair  3 года назад +1

      For me changing the engine is the best option for this situation. When metal parts fail and circulate throughout the engine, makes it hard to trust other parts that are assumed to be good.

    It's the luck of the draw. I read many comments on social media with folks with the same problem being told they needed a new Engine....they didn't and got the car back up and running well.

  • @atx-cvpi_99
    @atx-cvpi_99 3 года назад

    This problem and the PTU has caused police departments to retire their Explorers and Tauruses earlier than the Crown Victorias. Crown Victorias had 100,000-120,000 miles on average when they retired and they were converted to taxis. Tauruses and Explorers only have 70,000-90,000 miles when they are retired from duty and taxi companies won’t buy them because of the countless problems that they have. It costs us taxpayers money too even if the car is still under warranty because of downtime. Don’t buy any Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, or Mazda that has the transverse 3.5, 3.5 Ecoboost, or 3.7 V6 engine. If you have a 3.5 Ecoboost, it will cost even more money to fix than the regular ones.

    Sadly, I lost my EcoBoost Taurus SHO all because of the water pump failure, as soon as it happened it messed up both turbos, oil pump and made the engine almost break from the inside, and that’s ALL because FORD decided to put the water pump inside the timing cover and connect it to the timing chain 💔💔

      Chrysler did too and they were really really bad. Not only the 2.7 V6 had the water pump problems they also had oil sludge as well. They were so bad that Chrysler decided to sell it as a fleet engine mostly to rental car companies like Enterprise for the last couple of years in production to get rid of their inventory.
