Does this car have a standard clutch activated by foot pedal? Because you waited so long in front of the traffic lights, 1st gear selected. With a standard clutch this means you have to press the foot pedal all the time, which causes wear for the declutching bearing. Going to neutral while waiting protects the clutch, IMHO...
NICE!!! A 5-speed DS with manual transmission and a pedal parking brake! Oh, I gotta get my DS running again sometime! But driving in Florida without air conditioning?
Not a DS but an ID, DS has a hydraulic semi-automatic gear box without clutch pedal, however, ID has a manual gear box with clutch pedal, both are beautiful french cars, i'm french too...

DS has automatic clutch. ID has regular manual transmission and clutch.

As far as I remember, the position chosen by Citroën is with the spoke between 7 and 8 of a clock-face.

Smooth ride - rough and noisy engine. Citroen never managed a nice running engine.
