China's visa waiver policy has sparked a wave of international visitors eager to explore what the country has to offer, from traditional culture and historic landmarks to vibrant futuristic cities, as exemplified by the recent online buzzword "city bù city" that has taken the Chinese internet by storm. What explains this big bounce in China inbound tourism? What China experience are foreign visitors looking for? In this edition of the Hub, Wang Guan talks to Duan Yanling, a curator living in Spain, and David Moser, associate professor at Capital Normal University, to discuss how international visitors view China and how people-to-people exchanges are benefiting from this recent surge in inbound travelers. Duan and Moser underscore the allure of exploring "the old and new China" and experiencing first-hand the "China miracle" through the lens of the digital world and technology.

Every place in China is a tourist attraction, every day in China is a holiday, every restaurant in China is a Michelin restaurant, and every guest who comes to China is a VIP guest.
144 hrs. free visa extends to the US and UK proving "seeing is believing" may be a good idea.
I would like to give some feedback but not sure where I should feedback to. I was in Beijing in May 2024. My hotel was near Guomao Metro Station area. I hope my feedback would not be considered rude.
1) to encourage more tourists to China, a campaign on NO SPITTING could be encouraged. Many foreign tourists find this SPITTING in the streets or by taxi drivers rather off putting. Maybe also an effort to encourage people not to speak loudly inside the metro trains. (In Japan and Europe, talking loudly in the trains is frown upon.)
2) There should be seats (for tired feet) in the metro stations and in shopping malls. There is a lot of walking to attraction sites and tourists need to sit down to rest aching feet. The shopping malls are enormous but there are no seats to rest in the foyer or common area.
3) There is heavy traffic everywhere and I find the bicycles/mopeds/motor cycles very scary. How do the older people manage? On the pavements, mopeds come towards you, they come from behind, on your right, on your left. They speed, especially the couriers. And they are even allowed on the OVERHEAD BRIDGES. Can the local authorities improve on this so that bicycles/mopeds/motorcycles have to be orderly at traffic lights, obey traffic rules and not ride on the pavements.
4) The shops at the International Airport (PEK) are all the Western brand names. Could there be some shops selling local Chinese products too? I found all the Brand name shops empty, no customers. Many tourists would like to spend whatever RMB they still have to buy some China products/souvenirs home. Not everyone is interested in the Western brands, which we see in other International airports in other countries as well.
I agree with your suggestions
Love your suggestions - plus they should have designated "NO SMOKING" areas. Many tourists are NON-SMOKERS these days and hate being around smokers. The Chinese smoke too much - which is also unhealthy for them.
@@user-sf1nq9uj7p totally agree 👍
@@user-sf1nq9uj7p Thank you for your comments. I was worried in case others may think I am rude to give feedback. China has so much to offer so I hope the authorities will get to read my feedback. Lol.
@@haniahannslew4108 Thank you.
We brought our family to China (16 of us ). We all paid $140 each for the visa. Went to 6 cities in 13 days. It’s well worth the money! The country is cleaner, safer and beautiful especially Guilin and Zhangjiajie. Personally, this is my 5th times I have been to China. Now I am on my home to Florida to rest and try to come back next year to Hainan, Tibet and the West Muslim cities
tourism as a new soft power tool...
So thankful for visitors who are sharing the real China and especially those foreigner friends living and working in China who have been instrumental in spreading the truth about China,.... thank you again!👍🕊
China can offer visa-free for the US and UK citizens over the age of 50 or 60. They have the money to spend and are old enough to know what is right or wrong and are unlikely to do anything mischievous like the US and UK yobs.
We don't want to go there, with or without Visa.
@@TacticalMayoyes we want to stay home and learn about China from our own Mainstream western media to hold onto our ignorance, prejudices, misconceptions ideas about China we get through our own governments propaganda and ruling elite.

@@teatree6228 we're not going to get along so everyone better get ready.

China should keep on building something WOW... Not only infrastructure but also theme parks, affordable Hotels, food and drink and a mighty selection of things to do.... from art galleries and museums to live music and theatre such as Jazz and instrumental that sounds calming and soothing. What tourist did not like....some shops blasting audio to attract business. Western style Washrooms with cleanliness are definitely one of the components to make a successful tourism
Have you been to China lately and visited their Tier 1 cities? What you have mentioned - western styled sitting toilets (and some have bidets in their public toilets which the U.S. and Australian cities still do not) , public washrooms, art galleries, museums, theme parks, dance halls, etc, etc are already in existence and have been for some years. Probably the smaller cities and less developed areas need to be "modernised" as well for those tourists who like to get away from the "tourist traps" in Tier 1 and 2 cities. However, all the main cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc have those modern amenities you have suggested already. If you haven;'t been to those cities in China yet, go and have a look.
Go to China and take a lookout first
@@hangmatchahang5260 Dude Don't understand what you mean...Go there to see what?
All of the things you described above exist in China already, as was suggested in the conversation, there's no better way to experince what every country has to offer than by visiting them. I'm so glad I made the move to China over 17 years ago, I've been lucky enough to experience first hand the development and technological change which has been astounding.
@@JamesPhotoLX Nice and cheers to you. I am pro development in China.
I’m working on an itinerary to make the most of the 144-hour visa-free visit to China. However I’d really love to see the 15-day visa free provision extended to UK citizens
🤣🤣🤣 144 小时 没什么可以玩的 太仓促了
Please add some benches in the malls and in tourist sites for tourists to sit and rest after a long walks. This will encourage people to enjoy more sightseeing.
Please ban those e-bike, e-motorcycle or mopeds from riding on the sidewalks. They really scare and frustrate tourists. Tourists as well as local people don’t want get hit by the quiet e-bike and mopeds sneaking from behind or run towards us.
Also as someone commenting, please teach those people to stop the bad habit of spitting in the public spaces or on streets….. Show the world what a great 5000 years of civilization is like with good manners and good habits.
Some good manners and good habits for you, maybe they’re not that good or even rude for other civilizations or nations.
China is wonderful, great people. We have many chi use imigrantes in Brazil!
Tourism is helping the Chinese economy bounce back in 2024. I think using the young graduates is great idea. Many returnees from America, UK, Canada and Australia with college degrees and English skills would make wonderful tour guides and hostesses. Employing these 2023-2024 grads would be a win-win for the country. The Ministry of Tourism should hire them.
The most scary part of arrival airport is getting lost and figuring how things work in China especially we don’t know Mandarin. It would be helpful if students of foreign languages work as volunteers help give us some information when needed.
Shangri-La
I have never been to China.
With 5,000 euros I can go there, for whole family vacation 12,000 euros.
@urimtefiki226 中国旅游费用不高 但需要时间 中国太大了
@@urimtefiki226 It only costs about 20 euros to stay in a three-star hotel for one night in China, and it only costs 2 euros to go to a restaurant to eat. Are you planning to spend 5,000 euros to stay there for half a year?
China is one of the most affordable, value-for-money international tourist destinations. You'll not be disappointed and probably return for more!

Instead of just through Alipay, i hope China government could come up with smart value stored payment card where tourists could top up and use for payment like an Octopus card in HK.

Far from it. This is communism.
