I know this video is a year old but I had to comment. You did a fantastic job with this video. He had great close-ups with a good amount of detail and pretty much every step of the install. And he didn't have annoying music playing in the background like a lot of other videos. Thumbs up dude thank you much.
Noctua user here, installed three noctua fans in my previous build and they are still going strong after 7 years ! Am presently in the middle of re-building my computer and have ordered a Noctua NH-D15 to cool the Intel i7 11700 Rocket lake cpu of my new build. This cpu won't be overclocked but I want it to run cool. Also love the original colour scheme for Noctua fans.
@HDEFMAN1 Great to hear about that longevity, thanks for sharing! @Arithmetic that's great to know!!! I've been impressed with my newest D15 (no S on this one) for my 5950X. These run much warmer than other Ryzen CPUs and the d15 keeps it below 70 just about all the time under load.
Was thinking of upgrading my kids build with a different cooler but after seeing your video im definitely picking up this one. Thank you for the informative video as always.
Hey, I found your vid here as I was looking up the installation process of this same cooler for my new rig and it helped me get it in; also found the additional info for the second 120mm fan informative. Hope to have the new rig up and running soon- thx for putting this out!
Perfect timing! I've been trying to pick a cooler for my new build ( 5800x/3070 ) and I think I'm going to go with this one. Thanks for all the hard work Giff!
Love the D15. Extra fan is worth it. I use ID cooling for cheap builds. Avoid Corsair a500 at all costs. Impressed with Noctua products. Very nice review. Pro-tip. You may need to install cooler fans before the gpu. The blacker the better. RGB is for Raves.
@@GraybeardGiffTech I dont got a fancy black motherboard but everything else on my pc is completely black lmao. Now i need to figure out fan orientation on the noctua nh-d15
Just bought this, does the included fan clip mount a 120mm fan or a 140mm fan? Iv ordered a second 120mm fan hoping i dont need to buy anything else. Thanks
Thanks for liking the comment and adding no input, for everyone else the clip is for a 120mm fan NOT at 140mm. I wouldnt try stretch it... i would buy it 140m, seperate if you need that size. Not that would you buy a 140mm anyway. The notuca 120mm a12x25 fits perfectly above my ram it sits flush with the other 140mm. It good enough to keep my temps low enough on my 12900k. It hits 100c max on cinebench though. But in gaming its fine.
Got my hands on a 5900x and was set on the dark rock pro 4 by be quiet, the only thing that has held me back is the clearance. I prefer the look of the DRP4 but the clearance of the d15s is great it's just the thermals now as I know the 5000 series run pretty hot. How has the temps and sound been with your latest setup?
The 5600X and D15S run ice cold together! My son is actually using this setup now and he was concerned because the case fans were barely running, but even with full gaming load he can't break out of the 50's (C)! I moved to a 5800X and a D15..... It's toasty even with the big brother cooler! Web surfing in the 50s and I can barely keep gaming below 70C, but I guess that isn't too bad. I have OC'ed it with PBO and the curve optimizer and that helped reign in temps some and provide more FPS> I've been told by several folks the 5800X actually runs much hotter than the 5900X or 5950X because of it's architecture, but I can't verify this because it's harder to find a 5900X than it was my 3090 LOL!
@@GraybeardGiffTech Thank you for the informative feedback I appreciate it. Yeah I got my 5900x yesterday and my 3080 that I ordered back in October 3 weeks ago so now it's shopping for all the other accessible components to complete the new build. It will be my first in 12 years and have enjoyed the process of researching. Pretty sure the G-skill tridents will fit under the DRP 4 so might just go with it as the NH-D15 is getting up there in price and will put that extra back into some 3600MHz memory with tight timings. Thanks again.
I recently got this same CPU Cooler. After upgrading my CPU to a 10850k while using the 9S and it worked decent but I knew I can get it cooler. I installed the d15s and it wouldn't orientate vertically like yours but would horizontally. I have the fan facing up on the top tower but my temps haven't changed and may have even gotten worse?
Thank you for a very helpful video. How did you install the second fan over the memory, and what is its size, and where can I get mounts for the fan, for example 140x140mm?
I run the NZXT Kraken x72 and it doesn’t clear the ram in the first slot. So I’m upgrading to hardline water cooling very soon here when I can get my hands on a 5900X 😎
Hello! I was wondering if I were to purchase the x570 asus tuf to pair with the 5800x, I would love to go with the pro version, but on amazon only the plus version is available, should I be concerned? To cool that off, I'd love the cooler in the video as well, is that all right?
cooler master MA624 is more easy to install. it don't even need to remove middle 140 fan to screw the heatsink into the motherboard. sure it don't need long screwdiver too
My son is using this cooler with his 5600X. doing light tasking he's usually in the low 50's and during gaming low 60's. If I remember correctly the drop was over 10C. Which in my mind was a pretty big drop. The reality is that stock coolers just aren't very good at actually cooling.
How about putting the fans on the other sides of the towers and pull the air instead of push? I think that would allow you to use two 140mm fans, because there's no obstruction (RAM) on the other side of the towers.
some motherboards (like the x570 taichi) has a large plastic shroud there covering most of the length of the I/O that extends pretty far into the motherboard/close to the cpu. Saw a video where the guy mounted a fan there like you said but he had to bump it up pretty high (not flush with top of cooler). I have an x570 taichi, can confirm the i/o cover is there.
Hey I know this question has nothing to do with this video but, I’m currently running a an i5-7400 with a gtx 750ti and it bottlenecks pretty bad and overall I just need to upgrade my gpu, I was wondering what type of gpu I should go with? Also if I should buy now or wait until prices drop, because gtx 1650s are selling for around $350 -400 and I do not think they are worth that much.
I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. The D15 and D15S should mount to that board without issue, but you'd want to make sure the towers will fit in your case.
I almost did, but I enjoy the simplicity of air cooling. My limited direct experience with water cooling wasn't great either, but I know things have improved since then. I finally managed to grab a Ryzen 5950X and it's kinda toasty. I've been finding myself checking out both the Artic and EK AIO's, but I'm not sure they'd be an improvement.
I've almost bought the EK several times, they just don't have a good track record in AIO production, the last time in fact they kinda sucked LOL. I've been working with Curve Optimizer a bunch and I'm getting close to maxing out my fps and keeping temps livable using a Noctua D15, but it's been hard not consider an AIO right now.

The height of the D15 and D15s radiators are the same according to Noctua (160mm without fan). With the front fan it adds another 5mm.

Thanks! In the D15S kit they include a second set of fan attachment "springs" that you can use to hold a fan to the cooling tower.
Does the D15S have better cooling than the U12A?
