The song is really dark and it creeps me out. I know it takes musical skill to write a song to generate such a strong sense of mood, but this isn't a song that will appeal to a broad audience.

Taken By A Stranger was way ahead of it's time, about a decade. And now ten years later the song is still fire and Lena deserved to win also in 2011. This was the best song that year, hands down.

Jedward represented Ireland two years in a row (2011 and 2012), Rybaak won in 2009 and represented Norway in 2018, Johnny Logan won two times in 1980 and 1987 (and a third time only as a composer in 1992) and there are many participants like Poli Genova or Sunstroke Project that entered the contest for a second time or a third and then there's the legendary Valentina Monetta that represend San Marino in 4 ocasions: 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017

It's probably an unpopular opinion, but this is my favourite German entry. The best song that Germany sent in Eurovision and it deserved to win back then.

This is probably one of the best songs on ESC from the past 10 years. The song, the stage, choreography and presence was simple but hugely mesmerising., modern and dark. This blew Satellite out of the water for me.

Everything about this is perfection. Music, lyrics, singer, vocals, choreography, dancers, staging, light, colors, LED, costumes, camera work, explosion at the end.

Compared to "Satellite", this is much more professional and mature, I think, from every point of view, but it's not as catchy and upbeat, so it didn't get as far ...

The year before was the first time that the TV-audience chose the candidate AND the song out of non-professionals in a casting. Lena won and the song Satellite was chosen for her. 2011 they did a casting show again: only candidate was Lena, singing various songs. In the end this song beat a more conventional, nice ballade. The idea was: to stand out somehow will have more chances than a conformist song which everyone else has. The risk of being totally rejected was discussed. In the end this song landed in the better midfield - something unexpected. Well, and lately, 2015, the more conventional, well sung song ended with 0 points...
Germans though chose this for being different as they also chose the 2010 song for being different: without a big stage show, revealing clothes, lightening and so on, rather focussing on the authenticity of the singer (2010) or the innovation of the song (2011, but somehow also 2010). Sadly it went behind this standard afterwards again. 2012 was the last time for a comparable national casting, then again the competing groups applied already with their own already chosen songs.
Btw: The difference between 2011 and 2010 songs are not due to some maturing of Lena or any musical development, but due to the audience's vote. The argument was: repeating the same style of 2010 would be boring, so let's try another side. Nothing about Lena becoming someone else suddenly. ;) Now she is, though: having her first album she was herself free to design (without any company's decisive mpact on the style).

Best song of that year. Se perfomed amazing, she deserved to win again. I love Satellite but in my opinion this son is much better. So underrated, maybe because it's a different style... Love it.

This was such a striking performance... I honestly believe she would've won if she hadn't already the previous year - being placed tenth is impressive already because people aren't likely to vote for the same winning artist and country twice in a row. This song takes some getting used to but it's one of those things you have to listen to again and again, after a while you just start to really feel the genius of it. Pure awesome, this.

It's amazing to see how Lena grew as a performer in the space of one year. From one rather awkward albeit sweet girl to this confident performer who keeps you spellbound with what seems like no effort. This song is so chill and cool. One of the night's best performances, and a well-deserved 10th placer for Germany.

The first time I heard this song was it randomly coming on shuffle when studying earlier this year. When I found out it was a decade old I was really surprised. It still sounds extremely modern and after getting into ESC, that can not be said by a lot of the other 2011 entries

That one was from 2011. MaNga competed in 2010. Lena became 10th in 2011. Anyways both Turkey and Germany were overrated back in 2010. All Turks insists on MaNga but I strongly oppose that. Azerbaijan, Romania, Denmark, Armenia, Greece and even Belgium was way better than both Turkey and Germany. Especially Azerbaijan, Romania and Denmark were so amazing that one of them should have won

I'm from Germany and I love Lena, I really do 💖. For me this song was more interesting than "Satellite". It definitely showed a new facet of her. While it was a good performance, I can tell you she was pretty burned out at that point. She could be happy with 10th place. In general, I'm proud of her for not resting on the ESC. She supposedly had her career peak the year before, but she has evolved and changed over the years and is still playing sold out venues and has had three big hits in the past few years alone. I think it's not the easiest thing to stay relevant in pop music. You can like her or not, but you have to give some credit for that 😉.
