Hello everyone! I just discovered the original 3-minute-long version of this video on a flash drive and uploaded it to my channel for you to enjoy. Still hoping to post an update with my Mom and brother at some point, so subscribe to my channel if you want to see a video of us all grown up!
The house, the fridge, the walls, the lighting, the mom's face, the little brother... everything in this echoes back to a time where things feel simpler. Times may be tough but you have your family, and you know everything's going to be okay in the end. This video feels like some sort of bygone memory. Hope everyone in this is doing well
Hi everyone! Wow, this video has really blown up recently! RUclips's algorithm is strange haha. In this video I was attempting to play "City" by Sara Bareilles. I had just started taking piano lessons in secret a few months prior, and this was the moment I revealed to my mom what I'd been learning. I messed up quite a few notes but my mom clearly didn't mind. It's been 7 years since I captured this moment and it makes me really happy to know it touched so many of you. I have read and greatly appreciate your sweet comments. To everyone making fun of my ANNOYING little brother- don't worry, he's all grown up and much less annoying now! Perhaps I'll post a new video one day showing how my musical skills have evolved in the past 7 years. In the meantime, I'm glad you're all enjoying this blast from the past.
I'm so happy this turned up in my recommended. It's the much needed smile for me and I'm sure many others. Thank you, even if you did upload this many years ago, I hope things are going well :))
I don't know why RUclips decided I needed to see this but I really loved it, I hope you've continued playing. This song choice is excellent, those chords are really moving. I hope you're not overwhelmed by this sudden attention after all these years. Very best wishes to you and your family :)
These aren't tears. I got dust in my eyes. That takes me back to 2007. Self-taught guitarist for years and my mother had never heard me play. Started doing open mics and had gotten quite a following. Someone sneaked my mother in and third song was Loves Me Like a Rock. Chorus sang and I heard her voice. "Yes, I do." I saw her face and about lost it. She had the same look your mother did. I spent the next 5 years playing and singing for her every chance I got before losing her in 2012. Cherish the moments and music.
My grandma said that when I learn how to play the kalimba, she want me to teach it to her. So far I haven’t really learn anything yet. I’ll fulfill that promise soon. I don’t want those things to be just wishes you know… But I’m currently learning how to draw to fulfill my dream. I know it’s not related, but I just wanna share whatever is happening to my life right now. I have nobody to talk to.
I feel ya. I got 'distinguished' in all of my music exams but the harsh criticism from family is more powerful than the credit from a professional examiner - it's crazy! This is why it is important to always be kind, if we are harsh or cruel to others the repercussions can go on for decades. I hope you will find joy in your music again and keep it as your own precious expression away from the meanies. Hugs xxx
Dec. 29, within minutes of receiving his first shot, Barcavage experienced paresthesias in his right arm. Within hours to days, the numbness and tingling traveled to the right side of his face, his eye, and his ear.
My parents had the exact same look when they came home after a dinner party to find my sister, brother and I jamming our asses off. They knew we could somewhat play, they just didn't know how well. We worked on "Love lies bleeding" for about a month before they ever heard it. They had that deer in the headlights look when they came into the den and saw us rocking our asses off. We were way too loud and figured we were in trouble so we stopped. Dad asked "Why'd you stop? Do it again from the beginning! We realized we weren't in trouble, and that my parents really loved it. It made it the best jam of my life. My sister can play the piss out of a piano, my brother can play bass and sing like a demon, and I'm a serious guitarist. It was probably 40 years ago. My parents are both gone but every time I get together with my sister and brother, we jam our asses off!! We are still pretty good musicians, but my brother's voice is amazing. He's one of those freaks that can sound like anyone from Elton John, Ray Charles, Huey Lewis, Robert Plant ETC. He's 60 and still can belt one out. I'm the only one that ever got paid to play. I never got nervous professionally. When I play with my brother and sister I am a bag of nerves. They are both so good that I don't want to be the dummy that screws up. When we all relax and play it feels like going downstream with the wind at our backs. I don't care if nobody reads this, I just had to write it.

Yeah, this isn’t talent. I started piano for the first time at 13 years old, and within one month I taught myself Bach’s French partita overture (the whole 7 minutes). Sorry to break it to you, but being able to play long chords isn’t really much of a talent.

Oh my... So beautiful to see her reaction... not a single word from her, just the expression proud mother appreciating the moment. This hit me hard and makes me think of my dad here. Even though I don't play well, he would always come and watch me playing. He never asked for specific songs or anything, he would just come in silence and listen to whatever music I was trying to play. And I started to try to learn songs that he likes just to have more of this moments of connection with him. One day I was trying an easy "for begginer's" version of Chopin's Nocturne (Op9 No2) and he came quietly to the room and just sat there, listening as always. When I finished playing he clapped and then said "this song is so beautiful, when I pass away would you play it in my funeral?" and I said "oh my God, bite your tongue dad! you shouldn't say things like that", right after that day I couldn't play it anymore, and would just hit the wrong notes even if I tried. Last year he got COVID. He was not getting better, I had to call for an ambulance, and he was sent to the ICU right away and put in induced comma. My mom told me to play the piano every night, kind of a way to ask for his recovery. One night I was just playing random melodies and my fingers went to the exact first notes of Chopin's Nocture. I stopped, and said "NO. Not this one..." Started over for something else. Same notes again. "Oh please no. Not this song."... The next morning the hospital called. He passed away. They didn't let me see him. We didn't have a proper funeral. I miss him so much. I never got to say goodbye, nor a last hug. I don't feel like playing piano anymore. 🥀 I just wish I could see him again. Sorry for the sad story guys. But if I could give just a one advice here... Enjoy your parents, guys.... Or any person that you admire and is special in your life. Be it your parents, grandparents, aunt or uncle, a teacher or just a friend....whoever... Enjoy these small moments with this person while you can.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I know the heartache of losing my Dad, then years later my Mum. 😔 You may not feel like playing for a while, and that's natural...but one day you will and your Dad will be there, listening as always and very proud. 🙏❤
I'm a piano teacher. It's morning, and I have an afternoon/evening of teaching ahead. And this reminded me what it's all about...the joy of music...the connection between hearts...sounds linking souls. 💕
What an amazing moment. Tears of joy for their mom, who got to experience it for the first time. The boy didn't seem to want to be a part of the video; but I'll bet in twenty years, when he's watching this video, he'll understand the significance of being able to take part in such a special moment with his mom, as he thankfully remembers, having a little better understanding of the things we so easily take for granted when we're younger. Our sight; our hearing; being able to enjoy a piece of music... I'm sure Hannah fully understood why he needed to be included in the video. Someday, he'll understand too. I'm glad she chose to share that moment with him, too. I've been playing the piano (on and off) for about fifty years. Being able to share a piece of music with someone you love is heart-warming, joy-filling, and magical. Being able to share a moment with someone who is experiencing something amazing, for the first time - equally wonderful. I just wish the video had gone on a little longer, so we could hear the full piece. Thank you, so much, for posting this wonderful video.
One of those moments where, as parents, we get to affirm all the sacrifices, tears, blood, sweat and hard work has been worth it to see our children shine ☀️
That is beautiful, how proud she is to hear you play. This is really beautiful, simply what we have, connection, love, the simple things that bring us together, happy you shared this.
I remember it as though it was yesterday, the first time my mom heard me play the piano. I can still hear her voice when she said "Stop playing on that damned piano, I'm trying to watch TV!" Good times.
Wow, I wondered why this appeared on my homepage all the way in the UK, but today is the anniversary of my mums funeral and she was always super proud of me, seeing your mums reaction to you playing the tiniest piece of music really made my heart swell. Thank you for sharing this (7 years ago) I’m happy it appeared on my homepage.
That feeling you get when you child makes music come out of an instrument they’ve been practicing for years is pure joy! It took everything in me to stay quiet after my sons first symphony! I wanted to stand up and cheer like he won the super bowl 😂It’s truly magical
Brought some tears of joy to me raising two daughters on my own and remembering and rejoicing in everything they did to bring love and happiness to the world....thank you.
Some of the most endearing moments are captured here on RUclips. This is essentially one of the prized ones. Reminds you of how life can still be so beautiful...
One of the greatest gifts a parent can get is to see their children achieve a talent Being good at something that isn't just easy but shows dedication and perseverance
That's amazing! My parents never told me 'thats nice' even if I could play Chopin's etudes or Beethoven's sonatas, I gave up after 12 years of hearing 'stop playing, you have to become a doctor' Keep doing what you love even if everyone is against you. You can do that, I believe in you!
@@fmar.8311 Honestly people are dumb when they keep saying you should be a doctor. There are a million other careers needed and in high demand making unemployment 0%. How wonderful are mothers that she doesn't care a bit about the crappy sound of that piano, she's loving it just because how meaningful is for her to hear her son playing
I'm a new nurse in the hospital and I have been feeling so overwhelmed and intimidated ...but I found an old picture of my parents and it felt like they were looking at me, saying to be brave and to hang in there because they're right there with me. When I imagined them in that pose, with me at the hospital it really did give me strength. This video touches that same sort of power or vibe :'D incredible. Thank for you sharing this memory with us.
having supportive parents is so cool!! my mom never really cared that i played guitar and it still hurts, you are lucky and blessed!! loving families are the best!!!!
This is great, This reminds me of when I showed my dad I could play the guitar, and a few of his favorite songs. I played Satellite by Dave Matthews Band and his jaw dropped. It was a special
My parents looked like this the first time I ever sang in front of them… I had always been a shy kid, but I loved- LOVED my singing voice. Still love it and use it. But I had been so nervous to do it in front of them because I was worried that the people I loved the most wouldn’t like it, but I sang Etta jones for them and they went crazy for it. Since then I’ll belt out a time for anyone who wants to hear:)
I had the same experience just this recently. I knew that there was gonna be a time where I'll sing in front of the folks and when my father handed over the mic to me, it felt like weights off my shoulders. Finally got the confidence I needed. XD
Wowww thank you for sharing this moment with the world! I'm sure you didn't expect it to blow up like it did. I play piano too and can relate to your family a lot. Your Mom is so happy to hear that magic, and your face acting like it isn't that special... it's all sooo so wonderful. I teared up.

Props to whoever filmed this... I love how the camera stays on the mother for majority of the video, when all we see is her reaction and hear the playing in the background. Sweet
From the look on her face I thought this was the first time she'd ever heard a piano, like she was deaf and had a miracle surgery. The support and love of a mother is unlike any other force.

I just wish I could see him again.
Beautifully played! Mom’s reaction…priceless ❤️
I'm a piano teacher. It's morning, and I have an afternoon/evening of teaching ahead. And this reminded me what it's all about...the joy of music...the connection between hearts...sounds linking souls. 💕
I'm a piano teacher too and I totally agree!! This is so precious
This is really beautiful, simply what we have, connection, love, the simple things that bring us together, happy you shared this.
this is such a beautiful moment she looked so proud and happy it makes my heart go all fuzzy !!!
That jaw drop tho
kass simon LMAO UR PROF PIC IS BASICALLY IT LMAO
I cried watching this. A novel surprise and a warmth welcome seeing such happiness in her heart.
This speaks volumes about everything we stand for.
I remember it as though it was yesterday, the first time my mom heard me play the piano. I can still hear her voice when she said "Stop playing on that damned piano, I'm trying to watch TV!" Good times.
Hahahahahaha
Wow, I wondered why this appeared on my homepage all the way in the UK, but today is the anniversary of my mums funeral and she was always super proud of me, seeing your mums reaction to you playing the tiniest piece of music really made my heart swell. Thank you for sharing this (7 years ago) I’m happy it appeared on my homepage.
This is beautiful. The expression on her moms face is just so kind. Music really brings people together. ❤️
One of the greatest gifts a parent can get is to see their children achieve a talent
Being good at something that isn't just easy but shows dedication and perseverance
I closed my eyes and just let the beauty unfold in my heart. 🥰 Could really listen to this looped all day.
This is wholesome, your Mom is just beaming with love and pride.
That's amazing!
My parents never told me 'thats nice' even if I could play Chopin's etudes or Beethoven's sonatas, I gave up after 12 years of hearing 'stop playing, you have to become a doctor'
Keep doing what you love even if everyone is against you. You can do that, I believe in you!
That would encourage me to start a career in music.
@@darklawtivity6831 yeah, maybe...
Did you end up becoming a doctor at least?
@@fmar.8311 Honestly people are dumb when they keep saying you should be a doctor. There are a million other careers needed and in high demand making unemployment 0%. Cybersecurity jobs and architects/engineers. On another note though, you could easily start making money playing music if you play for a church or any other place that has a band.
@@darklawtivity6831 and even if you don't.. so what.. do what YOU want.. life passes so fast, there isn't even time to regret the things you DIDN'T do.. i'm nearing my 70th year..and have been making music since i was 15... the end result is almost 200 videos of the best of my life's work on my RUclips channel.. NO REGRETS...so do what YOU want so YOU never have any as well... cheers :)
Why do I feel like I want to cry. This video is so beautiful. The mums reaction is so beautiful. Everything is beautiful.
If there is any magic in this world at all, surely it exists in music.
This was something to behold. Thank you for sharing!
I'm not a religious person, but I like to think that music is the closest we can get to God.
I can see the love in your family. Thanks for sharing. And don't ever stop playing.
I hope everyone has had a parent look at them just like this mom. You can practically see the love radiating from her, it's so wonderful.
its so lucky to have parents who supportive when you play music or persue a music career. i wish my mom had the same reaction like her. the only family who cares to listen when i play is my grandma bc she used to teach music but she dont visit my house that much
This is almost a piece of perfect frozen moment. Everything about it is perfect ... the atmosphere .. the lighting .. the family dynamics .. the mom . I don't know how but I also can place myself there .. in that moment .. it feels safer .. there.
That girl is so talented. Thank you for sharing this moment.
Your mom is so sweet! I love seeing your family all together enjoying time together!
Well Done ! - Wonderful - all that hard work paying off. Thanks for sharing .
as the lil girl played it looked like the lady listening was becoming younger before our eyes. she was truly happy is was that was, truly wonderful moment thanks for sharing
All three of you are adorable each in a special way!
Pure beauty. Made me shed a tear.. this is what RUclips is all about. Thank you for sharing with us.
Awesome! Just awesome! Music, in itself, is a language all its own that delves into the soul of the listener…don’t ever stop!!
the making and hearing.....and sharing of music.....is awe inspiring.....i cried
omg her reaction is priceless and timeless, pride mixed with love-for-music.
awwww... i love that she did this for her mom, such a good heart
That's great! I used to love to hear my daughter playing and practicing in her room! I wish she would still play!
Dec. 29, within minutes of receiving his first shot, Barcavage experienced paresthesias in his right arm. Within hours to days, the numbness and tingling traveled to the right side of his face, his eye, and his ear.
This is SO cool ! It's like hearing your heart for the first time. She is in complete awwwwww
I can practically feel the love between mother and daughter. Its so sweet I teared up.
How wonderful are mothers that she doesn't care a bit about the crappy sound of that piano, she's loving it just because how meaningful is for her to hear her son playing
Judging by all of the photos placed around the piano, im guessing its some type of talent that runs in the family. Truly beautiful
Man, that transition from Mom's face from shock to loving endearment really hit my heart. I love this.
having supportive parents is so cool!! my mom never really cared that i played guitar and it still hurts, you are lucky and blessed!! loving families are the best!!!!
Bravo, I love to hear young people playing a real instrument. It would definitely be an investment in her musical future to get the piano tuned.
Do young people play fake instruments?
@@kaiwilliams8886 electronic pianos and such
@@nightspicer they're still instruments...are electric guitars not real as well?
@@isaacdynys6518 We like to call those types of folks gatekeepers. He might just be young but I'm sure he'll figure it out someday.
@@EtherealBeing why gatekeepers?
It's as if she sensed immediately it was her daughter's "voice". What a tender moment
Love this.....a mother's love in full display! 💜
This is such a charming video. A proper family. Bless you.
LOL I played my mum a hard af guitar solo perfectly, but she only said: "When you start learning something from the Backstreet Boys"
That's beautiful Hannah. My face hurst from smiling. Never stopplaying.
A reminder of how genuinely nurturing, caring and encouraging a mother can be... Moms, there's nothing better!
Damn, this was so wholesome. Thanks for sharing.
This is great, This reminds me of when I showed my dad I could play the guitar, and a few of his favorite songs. I played Satellite by Dave Matthews Band and his jaw dropped. It was a special
You have a great mom, because she has a lot of hope for you.
That's just beautiful. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Awwwwwwww I love this! Wholesome moments like this are needed in the world!
Awesome 👍😊
I had the same experience just this recently. I knew that there was gonna be a time where I'll sing in front of the folks and when my father handed over the mic to me, it felt like weights off my shoulders. Finally got the confidence I needed. XD
That was the best mom expression of the year
Congratulations for making your mother so proud. Sometimes I believe it's one of the best things we can do as human being
A mother's love is unconditional, even of she couldn't play a note a mum would still appreciate. I miss my mum
This is so wholesome… my mom would’ve walked by like “cool, whatever”
IF I WAS THE MOM I WOULD FLOOD THE ROOM WITH TEARS OF JOY
I would get her lessons!

This just showed up in my recommendations today. Mom looked so proud. Wow. It has been many years. Hugs from upstate NY!
Didn't know how much I needed to see this. . . Thank you.
I'm a musician, guitarist for over 50 years and composer, YOU DID A GREAT JOB. God Bless. Practice, and never stop.
An absolutely heartwarming moment, and no better time to get recommended something to brighten up my day. Thank you so much for capturing and sharing this with us all. Wish you and your family all the very best in life
Props to whoever filmed this... I love how the camera stays on the mother for majority of the video, when all we see is her reaction and hear the playing in the background. Sweet
I understand, I cry each time my granddaughter plays, can't help it. Nice, Hanna
This is beautiful
This is beautiful and very rad! Thank you for sharing this wonderful moment with us!
From the look on her face I thought this was the first time she'd ever heard a piano, like she was deaf and had a miracle surgery. The support and love of a mother is unlike any other force.
This video is from a while ago, but I hope you continued to follow the path of music, one way or another. Music is a way to both express yourself and connect with others, it's beautiful. Thank you for sharing this little part of your story with us
OMG SHE IS SO CUTE I CANT BELIEVE IT I WANT A MOTHER LIKE HER OMGOMGKJOAS
Beautifully done with priceless moments like these are the most beautiful
