Iwas born in NE Colorado where lots of beets are raised. We only grew beets one year, but everyone around us grew a substantial crop of beets. We didn't have all the fancy machinery you see in the video. Most of the work was done by hand.Used a machine to pull the beets from ground and that's when the real work began. They used a long hand knife like a machete with a sharp hook on the end. you walked down the row, used the hook to pick up a beet and used the knife to cut off the top, drop it and move on to the next beet. Then they were picked up by a machine and put in a truck to be hauled to beet factory or a nearby beet dump, usually located next to Railroad tracks. Then they were loaded on rail cars and hauled to a beet factory for processing. There would be very large pile of beets next to factory for most of winter. The left over pulp was fed back into cattle. They loved it!!
