I was always told to keep the all the parts that wear together during break together doing disassembly together for the future reassembly. I mean things like pushrods, lifters and rocker arms.
My builder, Siebert, only recommends .002-.003 tighter when cold. I have a Dart SHP block and AFR 220s. We dyno'd it. In the end, it really doesnt affect the power much using either spec cold. We used to use .004 cold on the previous engine.
Hi Scott glad to see your engines going back together, Do you think you can talk about your oil restrictors are those the ones that go behind the engine block where the outer cam plugs are? What did they sent your main bearing clearances at?
Best of luck no break in but a few easy passes ?? be for going into the 10s. My car is on the trailer cash bash at Renegade 4 Apr. Looking forward to a great review on your s10. I have a 406 11.1 little less cam AFR 220 373 gears 3600 stall that will be going in in may street strip and 11.0s I hope.
The plan for today was for just like you said, easy passes to break it in. We got it fired up and it’s running good but seems I have a gremlin in the wiring somewhere, not gonna push it
Hello Scott my current build will be my first rodeo with a solid roller on the street or other wise, as my engine is primarily for the street i'll be running hippo type solid rollers and was curious what type you run with restricted oiling up top? Barring no unusual wear do you expect your lash to be perfect when you check it with the stud girdles offering extra support in that regard? Heard you chuckle at the 10.00 a gallon race fuel and wanted to mention with 10.7 to 1 my 399ci. SBC made 641 hp.@6400, on 89 octane, bumping up to 91 lol. At the rate the current administration is going i'm just hoping not to join you at 10.00 a gallon lol.
Are the stud girdles necessary or just a preference? I am getting ready to put together a 427 SBC using the AFR 220 heads as well. Thanks for posting your progress!
The stud girdles are intended to stabilize the valve train… if you’re just street driving you can get away without them but, if you’re racing or spinning rpm then you really should have them

Yes, all the flat tappet cam lifter sets I have stashed are kept in order. I didn't do that with this motor because it had very little run time

What oil pump did you use. I have the same setup. I bought the high volume pump, but dart says to use a stock one? And what rocker arms did you use?
@@eddieb1408 we used the std volume shark tooth pump. Ive got Comp 1.6 rockers and the afr girdle
@@eddieb1408 a high volume pump is not needed on a sbc. It can suck all of the oil out of the pan in a qtr mile run.
Another good video, I might actually swap my hyd roller to a solid now. Our motors are very similar except the heads. Keep the videos coming buddy
Have you seen the episode of Engine masters where they swap hydraulic roller lifters for solid? It’s interesting
Was interesting, I didn't know you could swap the lifters like that
Great video Scott. It’s nice to see a new video from you. That’s how I adjust my valves also
One step at a time…guess I should say one cylinder at a time 😃

Yes the restrictors go in the back of the block next to the cam plug... Main bearing clearance is right at .0025

How did your light break in passes go ?? Going out Sat. 4/16 ?? Best of luck.

Hi are you running scorpion rockers? Did you have to clearance them much or at all ?
I’m running 1.6 scorpion rockers… didn’t need any modifications at all
