Victor Davis Hanson is both a classical scholar at the Hoover Institution and a farmer in the San Joaquin Valley of California. He’s also a defender of the President, (his book The Case For Trump spent weeks on the best seller lists in 2019), and a close observer of the scientific and medical communities. These disparate interests and fields of study give him very unique perspectives and insights on the current COVID-19 crisis. We discuss the current situation with him in great detail, including the difficulties encountered by farmers, by research scientists and doctors, why some areas of the country are affected more than others, his theories about when the virus actually appeared in the U.S. and finally, what plagues of the ancient world can teach us about how to best manage and get past the situation the entire world finds itself in.

When ever I need to feel hope, I listen to a Victor Davis Hanson interview, who can provide a historical perspective to what is happening now. I am a retired Chem. Eng. and history buff and he gives me hope that we will awaken before we walk off the cliff. I am in Ecuador most of the time which is very locked down, but the poor uneducated people know how to survive and I had my hair cut sitting on a garbage can behind the bamboo home of my barber and were joyful that they would have money for rice and beans for merienda last night. They know that along with their neighbors, are the only ones who will save them from starvation which is worse than the corona virus. I gave them N95 masks and latex gloves for their back yard business. They brought me fruit today from their garden. Life is good, People are good and it reminds me of our humanity.
My hat's off to this wonderful show, Uncommon Knowledge from the Hoover Institution. Thank you for introducing Victor Davis Hanson and Thomas Sowell to me. Intellectuals capable of communicating with clarity, no smoke and mirrors with these gentleman. People of this caliber restore my faith in Human endeavor.

I'm from Canada, and I agree; however, it's not going to happen. Do you really expect the media to go against the going narrative? -- forget it! Their not going to talk about suicides increasing and people dying from other conditions because they can't go out to seek medical attention, etc. They're not going to talk about *the fact* that more people are going to die from from the lock-down and scaremongering then the virus itself. Heaven forbid that we upset the public or make the politicians and medical community look bad.

Very grateful for VDH. I was fortunate at my state university to have well balanced history professors, even some conservatives. History viewed and taught as Prof. Hanson needs to be taught to our young people

Renaissance man. Rancher, classics scholar, author, commentator. Mr Hanson is an old school Californian and Westerner. Me too. I live part-time where Mr Hanson spends half his time in Palo Alto, CA. The town and region was never conservative, like the central valley, but it's now infested with leftists. I happily spend more time outside the bay area, with the ranchers and farmers.
Another brilliant session with VDH, whose mind seems to work on another plane....a lateral one!! Bravo!!
Thank you for another great interview. It was like going through a roller-coaster, with worrisome perspectives, encouraging one, scary ones, and, finally, a great uplifting, hopeful finale. Victor David Hansen is one of the sharpest minds around.
Please do a show with Dr Hanson on the history and problems in Mexico. Ask him why Mexico is a failed state (which in turn drives and forces its people to enter the US illegally).

Not really. He's eloquent but his technical knowledge is always lacking. He knows what is going on culturally. Oblivious to technological and scientific forces of change.

Victor, thank you for your comments on U.S. College edu. I taught for 30 yrs in sciences. I constantly spoke to struggling students who told me"...its too hard, there's too much work. Eng, Art, Sociology is easy. I just have to do a few papers or projects and they give extra credit!" In addition, the Colleges tell everyone that a college degree, OF ANY KID, will give you a good career/job. There should be a law in college counseling info just like in the bank's "truth and lending rules".What would students do about spending 100K$ on a degree if they knew it was basically worthless(as compared to Medical(RN,RT,RAD,MedT etc), Engineering, and STEM degrees)!

Let's just shelter in place forever because once everybody gets back on the freeway there will be more car accident death. Also, we should shelter in place every flu season at the end of the year. Crime is down here in Los Angeles, so let's shelter in place forever so there won't be a spike in crime. The point is the longer social distancing is in place, the longer herd immunity is postponed. What's going to happen after everybody goes back to work, Coronavirus all over again? This makes no sense at all. Enough is enough.

Just a great interview. The Founders were a group of impossibly brilliant men & Victor Davis Hanson, if he had lived back then, would be in the midst of that group. Thank God, he is with us today & for that, we are truly blessed.
I encourage my adult children and grandchildren to listen to and read VDH. The historian of our time and certainly one of most clear thinkers of our times. Have his books and have learned a lot from him.
