- SNP veteran John Swinney and the previous runner-up Kate Forbes have both emerged as potential successors for party leader.
However, neither have confirmed they will stand for the leadership.

Kate Forbes would be a pretty terrible choice. Although I support Scottish indepence, she has been a pretty terrible advocate for it. So far, she offers nothing interesting, and a bunch of liabilities. But of course she wants the position.
I completely agree with your assessment of Forbes. While I may stand on the opposite side regarding independence, I still believe in approaching the issue and those who argue for it with respect due. I've seen what division can do in other countries and it is something we need to avoid.
Regarding the difficulty in advocating for 'Indie 2.0', I see it as a poisoned chalice. Many of the key issues are deeply geopolitical, and in today's world, marked by increased instability compared to two decades ago, these challenges are barely acknowledged by our current Scottish Government. Defense, for instance, has become a compelling pro-UK argument, especially with defense spending set to rise significantly.
I've also come to see Brexit and the call for independence as similar in their rhetoric, avoiding substantial issues in favor of nationalism. However, while Brexit was undoubtedly very shortsighted, we can't ignore the flawed approach to immigration within the EU. Its policy causing its own set of problems, worsening year by year and eroding the cultures of many European cities. As a nation with a small population, I fear that leaving the UK would subject us to a rough period where we'd be at the mercy of larger players, namely the EU who I presume we would be joining?
I just can't see them not putting pressure on us to 'take' in numbers of people disproportionate to our population size, Ireland is already experiencing this issue. The EU is also increasingly trying to avoid 'special cases' with membership which would make it hard for us to have the opt-outs we enjoyed as the UK member state.
The EU's obliviousness to the immigration reality has sparked friction within the collective. Poland, Hungary, and now Italy are increasingly at odds with the EU's stance, and it's alarming to see this disconnect on the ground (I work in both Scotland and the EU). I had hoped figures like Le Pen in France would serve as a wake-up call, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue in a calm, more centrist way.
The only way I'll support SNP ever again if it is Kate Forbes :-)
I think Kate Forbes is finally getting the message regarding the SNP. She's having second thoughts about their aims, methods, and the damage they're doing, and continue planning to do.
She's quite wisely holding back. For her own sake, the best thing for her would be to jump ship. The people in Scotland are getting the message. She should get on the right side of the argument.
Her "religious lifestyle" proves she hasn't a clue about anything. We don't need that kind of person running Scotland, we need someone who doesn't believe that fairies are real.

They missed the boat with Ash Regan last year, whoever comes in is really going to put the work in to fix the party.

We need someone that can work across the whole Parliament. We know the elephant in the room is Gender Ideology and the extreme harm it has caused. This MUST be addressed or the party, and the country is DONE. Time to get back to basics and fix the country. Kate is a strong contender and she would get my vote.
