DO NOT USE GREEN COOLANT IN TOYOTA ENGINES!!! Extremely corrosive. Green coolant and your gm orange coolant should never be used in any Toyota. All OAT coolant does not belong in aluminum engine blocks and carry no aluminum protection properties to them. Stay with the pink not red Toyota HOAT coolant. It protects your engine unlike the others. It also contains little to no electric contamination properties to it that causes corrosion like geen and orange has.
Yes best is a HOAT coolant. And always best to stick to factory coolant with Toyotas

Smart guy, but color is just a dye, and the brand is an American brand. When there is no aftermarket equivalent to Toyota coolant. Only they sell their formula. The Japanese paved the way in non-corrosive formula. American coolants were purposefully designed to be corrosive for the use of Iron blocks.

I just watched your video, then went and bought the supplies. I was going off memory and I forgot to flush the radiator with water. I just drained and refilled per your instructions. The coolant was pretty clean, so do you think the truck will be ok ?
Yes it'll be ok. Sounds like fluid was in good condition, flushing really only necessary on really old coolant or coolant thats degraded a lot and is dirty 👍🏻

You need to learn about distilled water… you just fucked your system up all those particulate in the tap water… man you should only use distilled water or pre mix.
I am well aware of using distilled water only, I forgot to mention though. I only used tap to rinse out radiator. Was all refilled with 50/50 premix 👍
The Toyota pink will last longer than the Toyota red.
Also I wouldn't leave it in there longer than Toyota recommends (50,000 miles and not 150,000).
Yes Toyota pink is good stuff. Change every 5 years, yes. I don't put too many miles on. Toyota says first 100k then change, then every 50k after that change. Even though its rated for 150k miles nowadays
There is nothing special about Toyota coolant. Toyota by far has the most dishonest among Japanese stealerships in my area.

Hey Jonny!
I had change my coolant yesterday. Bt today when the engine was off, i saw that the coolant level has decreased. So i again pour little bit of coolant while the engine was off. But then i turned on my engine, coolant start to came out from the neck. Then i have closed the cap immediately.
What should i do? Should i continue like this or should i open the cap and let the coolant flow until it calms down :(
I would drive the car as normal and then top off the radiator and the reservoir in the morning on a cool engine. Sometimes have to jusy top off once after changing coolant 👍

So basically your saying if you Toyota has red in it you can use a different brand of radiator fluid as long as it’s the same? Red Toyota to a different red ? Just for a drain and refill? Thanks
For a straight drain and refill I would use whatever you drained out. So if you have either toyota red or pink replace with it or the comparable off brand toyota red or pink. If switching to a green universal coolant I would drain system then run with distilled water until it drains clear, then refill with the green 👍

If my coolant is pink; do I have to get a coolant that’s pink, or can mix Toyota red with it?
I would just get toyota pink or another brand asian pink coolant 👍
i did several searches for coolant for my toyota highlander & the same brand keeps coming up...Peak OET extended life, its Asian, like meant for Asian engines.
Great video, I'm going to do that now. I thought we dilute that with water😅.. I'm using Toyota Avanza and the reservoir had an overflow and was leaking, leaving the radiator empty.
So there's no need to put water, only the coolant?
I got this Toyota 50/50 coolant.
If 50/50 don't need to add water, Only need to add water with coolant labeled Concentrate. But you should figure why your coolant overheated and boiled out

Hello sir. I have a 2019 Tacoma with a v6 engine. On the passenger side is an engine block to drain off coolant. Do you think it is necessary to drain that item, or, just drain the radiatior and proceed with refilling it? Thanks. Roy, So Cal

Can i use this for a 2019 carrolla SE. i have the red just checking
For a 2019 you're going to want to use Toyota PINK coolant 👍🏻
for 2019? why changing coolant when it lasts for 5 years and more?
Ok my corolla 2007 comes with red toyota suggested to me to switch to pink which is 50/50
What is the best way to flush old ok with Distilled till you see clean water and then drain radiator to add the coolant the question is how you can add pink coolant when it's 50/50 when the system is already has water the ration will not be right unless I get concentrated pink right
Yes if you do a full flush with distilled water you will need to get a concentrate to get 50/50. Can buy one of those cheap coolant testers to find when mixed right (just make sure fluid has mixed well). If fluid isnt super bad I would probably just drain and fill it. Up to you 👍
Reading some of the comments below.......makes me nervous to ever buy a used car again.
It's tough out there with used cars now, especially anywhere near big cities. Everyone seems to be trying to rip you off. Last time I tried to help a friend find a car came across so many liars and scammers. Luckily I sniffed them out, just didn't expect every single one to be 🐀😆

it is compatible for my 2008 jeep grand cherokee because i see different brands not for jeep ????
looks like that vehicle would use Zerex G-05 coolant. But any universal HOAT formula should be fine 👍🏻
I have a bubble here and there after a half hour randomly do i keep waiting till i dont see none at all the car its at normal temp already?
It's most likely fine if they are small bubbles, but if big burping type bubbles I'd wait til those subside 👍
If the Toyota Red coolant is a concentrate needing to be diluted 50/50 (preferably with distilled water and not not your garden hose, assuming you live in a hard water community), how is is it more expensive than the stuff you poured in your car? 2 gallons of your stuff at $13/gal. vs. the Toyota Red concentrate at $26/gallon breaks out pretty much even if my math is correct.
I guess its the same, it's usually cheaper to buy universal green concentrate coolant and dilute yourself with distilled water 50/50
I have a new XLE RAV4 2020 and its 1,000 miles only, its below full and little upper than low sign. Should I take it to dealership or just add it myself?
You can top up to Full yourself, just be sure to get Toyota Pink Coolant 👍🏻
What happens if you put in green into it but it had red?
I added 50/50 green into the side bucket, few months ago
I looked under my hood today and it looks like radiator sprayed all over my engine my battery, all over basically
I have no radiator leak tho under the my vehicle and it's not over heating, It's highlander 2016.
And I just started using my heater few days ago.
Hmm hard to say maybe boiled over from malfunctioning radiator cap. I would top off radiator to full and reservoir to the full line with engine cold. Then start up and warm it up in driveway and watch and see what happens. Run heater too. Heater core could be clogged some and it built up pressure. And typically its best to not mix colors as they are different blends of coolant and it also makes a dirty looking color so it's harder to check coolant
@@JonnyDIY I'll try that, do i have the heater/ac on or just the fan on with temperature hi?
Also, I haven't noticed any overheating, my gage goes to the middle and stays there.
@@ironmedsvr yes keep eye on temp gauge til problem solved dont want to overheat. Yes run normal up to operating temp for a bit them run heater on high heat blowing and see if that changes anything

Some other videos on the same thing show a huge funnel it sits way up with a bleeding hose connected to the top of the engine so that’s not necessary ?
Not always no, it just helps prevent air pockets. If you put front end on ramps or incline it helps bubbles come out radiator too. Since not draining block fully, I haven't really had problems with air 👍
I went to test drive a 08 Toyota Highlander with 256k miles... I checked the radiator fluid and it looked kinda dark black.. is that normal??? I need to know asap🥺🥺
No it should be reddish but clean looking 👍 Id find someone selling one that had maintenance records and seems like they maintained well
run fast and run far
I watched a guy take the petcock all the way out. Water shot out everywhere. I couldn't help but laugh.
😄 it happens
Better drain the engine block! When I replaced the coolant on my Tacoma about a gallon drained from the radiator and about another gallon from the block. I’d also strongly recommend replacing the thermostat. These are simple things to do and if you can turn a petcock then you can turn a wrench
Good idea, thanks for the info 👍🏻
This guy keeps it simple yet explains well.
Thank you 👍🏻
Great video. Did I see correctly when you added tap water? I am told only distilled water. The last change of coolant by our "mechanic" 5 years ago where he added just water ended with a failed engine that I am now rebuilding. There is also a drain plug in the back of the block on the right side at least in our 2004 Corolla; there was a lot of fluid there too but the plug is a pain to reach. For antifreeze i have Autozone stuff but I might actually get the recommended Toyota one just in case. After all the hassle and labor i am putting off to rebuild the engine the next antifreeze in the car I want to make sure it does last 150000 miles; odometer marks 122000 miles now.
You're right, only use distilled water to mix with coolant. I just used tap to rinse out radiator which is totally fine. Yeah may as well use Toyota approved coolant after doing all that work
Thanks for doing this on a Highlander. I have one that I bought new in 2007 & it just rolled over to 100,000 miles. Best vechile I have ever owned & I also have a 2019 Camry that I hope to get the same use out of. Many thanks!

2005 highlander over 200 thousand miles, still runs a hole in the wind 😊❤
Is it necessary to drain? Would just adding cause a huge problem. My coolant tank is completely empty. I dont know about the radiator. Thanks
You can add fluid to top off system. Make sure engine cold and fill reservoir only to COLD Fill line. And top off radiator by removing cap like I did. Should change fluid every 5 or so years 👍🏻
I did the same thing but I lost the heart in my car
Hmm. Keep running car with cap off and heater on full blast. Put car on incline with engine highest point to make speedy work of getting air out of system. Hopefully that does trick. Unless it was bad before coolant change. Then I'd look see if thermostat stuck wide open
Hey would I be able to do this with just 1 gallon of coolant? Or do I need 2?
Depends size of car's cooling system. I usually get 2 so Ill have extra to top off even if it only takes about 1
Oh man, so I went to do this same procedure and realized that the owners before me had a different coolant in the car. I’ve only had the car for about a week now but wanted to do my routine maintenance. Does this mean I have to do a full flush before putting back Toyota OEM super long coolant?
You should try and get out the old stuff as much as you can by either flushing with water or locate engine block plugs and crack those loose and will drain most everything out 👍

Do you need to jack the vehicle up at all? Or do you just need to leave it on a flat surface
No need to jack it up unless you need to get clearance to work on a lower car 👍
hey, i pretty much did what you did step for step but instead of the coolant draining, it just started slowly seeping out of the cap. no hot air is coming through the fan, but i ran engine for 30-45 min and temperature was normal. Im not too sure about what to do about that. I set up the car in a slight incline to help get rid of bubbles but nothing improved. any help?
Hmm so is this a new issue after changing coolant?? Or has heater not been working a while?
@@JonnyDIY right after change
@@vik6436 hmm. With engine on the incline like you said let it run with radiator cap fully off for a half hour. Should circulate and should be able to get some heat going. Nothing I can think would cause lack of heat so suddenly after changing fluid. Even if thermostat stuck open it would still warm eventually unless in really cold climate
How about bleeding air out of the bleed port on-top of engine left of fuel rail???
Sure if have issues. I usually just park car on uphill slope or put on ramps so radiator highest point with radiator cap off and let it run with heater going for 15-30 minutes to burp system 👍

Can i use Universal coolant(Prestone coolant All-Vehicle) in toyota camry 2014?
Yes but it is best to use the same coolant that was in the car which would be Toyota specific PINK coolant. If you want to use the regular green Universal coolant I suggest doing at least one flush with distilled water so that you won't be mixing different color coolants and it'll look nice and clean

Do you get more fluid out if you have the front of the vehicle being tilted down?
Yes, but then when you refill its best to have front end higher so air bubbles/pockets will surface and escape from radiator opening 👍🏻
I may have missed this, but do you refill with 100% coolant, or a mixture of coolant and distilled water? If so, what ratios?
I refilled with 50/50 premixed coolant. If you flush and run with distilled water you will need to add 100% coolant and dilute it to get a 50/50 mixture since theyll be water still in engine unless you drain block. But if coolant isnt super nasty you can just do as I did. Drain and refill with 50/50 premixed coolant 👍🏻

Can put the cars engine on ramps so radiator highest point or park on slope/up driveway to make the bubbles come out faster. Just run the car with heater on and add more coolant as it lowers down 👍
Ok thanks Johnny that works.. but not getting much heat out of the heater
@@grahamgeorge1130 keep running for around 30 minutes. Should be hot by then. If not may want check your thermostat see if fully opening
this change coolant without flush radiator fluid?
Yes just drain and fill procedure
Great video. Thanks
You're welcome, glad I could help 👍
Why flush with water. Won't water have minerals that can corrode or damage things?
No I just gave a few spritzes of water to rinse the radiator out. Now if you need to flush the system of all old coolant before switching over, I recommend running straight distilled water. Then draining that, then add new coolant 👍🏻
@@JonnyDIY excellent!!!
Target or Wally World has lower prices for distilled water in gallons.
@@ferndog1461 yes! I usually get a couple at Walmart with my coolant 👍🏻
