    Thanks, Tony, for another great and informative video. Photography is only a hobby for me. I was considering a 5D IV about 4 years ago but had to pay for my kids university education instead. Now that they are done, I purchased an R6 earlier this year. What a great camera, capabilities beyond the more expensive 5D IV (4 years ago price). What sealed the deal for me was that the mirrorless platform now allows me to use my small collection of old Canon FD lenses - amazing. I think we are all guilty of looking at the higher spec cameras and not focusing on what we actually need. I agree with you that most of us, esp. those of us that don’t earn a living with camera gear, the R6 is all the camera we will need.

    I was considering the R5 initially but chose the R6 instead for multiple reasons. All the talk of the lower megapixel count concerned me at first, but I saw some videos of guys doing bird photography (of all things) with the R6 that looked superb. I took some portraits with the R6 a while back, and I'm able to zoom in and see the capillaries, and the pattern in the limbal rings of the eyes quite clearly. It produces highly detailed images and I've been able to increase the resolution and upscale those images (4x) with good results. (No one viewing the final product would be able to tell the difference between the original and upscaled version.) So I'd argue you can get highly detailed images with the R6 that are larger than R5 images. I feel now that the R6 gets a bad wrap from people who construe megapixels as the be all end all.
    I also don't want a cfexpress slot or 8k video. Virtually no one has 8k screens, and even if they did they wouldn't be able to see the difference between 4k and 8k, on common screen sizes from typical viewing distances. Many (if not most people) can't even tell the difference between 2k (1080) and 4k. The difference between 4k and 8k is even more diminutive. It only makes a noticeable difference when the size of the screen gets significantly larger (approaching wall sized) or the viewer gets significantly closer to the screen. You're not going to see it on your phone or your 50'' TV that you're watching from your couch. You also need a 100mb internet connection to stream it. Many people can't get that where they live. And streaming it would use 44gb an hour (which is a problem if you have a data limit). 4k is all I need. (If that. Most videos on here are still in 2K.)
    I get my SD cards for less than $20 a piece. One card holds about 3,000 RAW images on the R6, and I can have still image redundancy for less than $40 (significantly less if I got slower cards). They hold over an hour of 4k/30 and over thirty minutes of 4k/60. If for some reason I need more storage for video I can get significantly more for a moderate price increase (four times more storage for about twice the price). SD cards are more than adequate for 4K, and I didn't want to spend a lot more for features, that offer little or no real world benefit (and a lot of burdens) for me.
    Now I'm interested to see what the Mark 2 will be like. The speculation is it will have a better sensor that eliminates warping when using the electronic shutter. If I could have anything in a camera right now, it would be no rolling shutter, and the ability to use flash with electronic shutter. (No more wear and tear on mechanical components.)

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger  Год назад

      Thanks for sharing your experience! I agree rolling shutter would be a good fix if they address it in the next version!

    Great to see someone revisiting these great cameras despite the hate they got with the bad marketing and overheating issues. I own an R6 and still blown away with it's features (coming off of Olympus E-M1 II and 2.8 Pro lenses). I purchased an Atomos Ninja V to augment for its video potential. Just finished off a short film for our church and never had an issue; The stills I got was used in the poster and the videos were used as master shots. No complaints here. 🙌🏼

      I know a lot of people do like the custom modes. I just always shoot in manual. Hello Tony, great comparison, great footage! As I need a b- and travel cam next to my C70 I wonder if I should get the the R5, R6 or R7. I am one of those who shoot in 4k60p most of the time. Which camera would you recommend?

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger  Год назад +1

      I would suggest another C70 for you 🤣 the c70 is such a good camera. my big production shoots I’ll use a c300iii and 2 c70s. The best thing is they all match so so well. You can match a mirrorless but the DGO sensor is just so hard to beat. If that’s not an option, I’d suggest the R5. It will last longer in 4K60 for you.

      @@TonyMellinger Thank you for the great answer. Even there is the r6 mark ii around the corner? I heard it will be announced next week and come in December. But ok: 60p has a crop. But at my dealers shop they have a used r5 for 3290 Euro ...

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger  Год назад +1

      @@alfredknodler540 there’s a little bit of a difference between the c70 footage and R5/R6 footage. It’s really easy to match the R5 and R6 but it takes a little bit more work to match them to the c70. Still easier than other cameras though. The big advantage of the R5 over the C70 is it’s ability to shoot photos. If you need that, it’s a big win.

    Hey Tony! Really been enjoying the vids over the last few weeks. Please make more R6 videos. I have an R6 and I want to make it my "main" camera for sports photo and video but I am not yet comfortable with it. Eos R6 has lot sharper 4k/60 than R5. One big thing with R5 is that you can put video -> photo mode button to m-fn button, so you can swap video to photo with one button.

    • @TonyMellinger
      @TonyMellinger  Год назад

      Technically that’s probably true because of the oversampling, but I can’t tell a difference when they are in a project right next to each other 🤷🏼‍♂️ they both are great quality.

    • @cjm8160
      @cjm8160 Год назад

      @@henakos The R6 shoots over sampled 5.1k in every 4K mode. This seems to be a weird hiccup on Canon’s part (but great for us R6 users!) The R5 and R7 by contrast shoot line-skipped pixel bin 4K 50/60fps. This is why the 4K50/60 look worse on the R5 and R7. In theory you can get around this by shooting crop mode on the R5 and R7. But in the case of the R7 that means you have a 1.8 crop on top of the 1.6 crop APSC sensor 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️
