These books are getting too comical, this isn’t even Wimpy Kid anymore. Like the early books had goofy moments but they were mostly still relatable. It kinda sucks how Kinney can’t stop making these books because they make so much money.
Does anyone else remember the part in Hard Luck where greg memtions a book series that became awful bc the author ran out of ideas That's basically DOAWK now
Lets not ignore the fact the description of this book is a complete LIE. It says "Can Greg, Rowley and their classmates save their school before it gets shut down?" When in reality, that only happens for like 10 pages...
This book is hated for the same reason Double Down is: just one random event after another, with no cohesion whatsoever, and the "main plot" advertised on the back doesn't happen till almost the end of the book.
At least double Down didn’t contain anything too outlandish like No Brainer did and it’s something a kid could actually go through, but yeah, double Down is still bad though….
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about this book. It doesn't even feel realistic anymore. Books like The Last Straw did stuff like this way better because it connected plot points and felt actually believable despite being ridiculous at the same time. I'd definitely reread The Deep End and Double Down 5 more times before rereading this one. Also is it me or are the character designs starting to feel super samey? You can see it with the noses.
Through-out The Original-Old School, the characters arms and legs are curved when bent, but through-out Double Down-Hot Mess, everyone has elbows and knees.
I just don’t get how anybody could get invested in this series anymore. What’s the point of baiting us with changes to Wimpy Kid if Jeff Kinney doesn’t follow through on it? All these ideas for book about Greg possibly having a change (which gets reset by the end of the book anyway) has no weight as we know he won’t change. Imagine if Jeff Kinney had actually committed to changing the series instead of just resetting things Everytime, he’d have a much larger audience. But instead he keeps relying on the same middle school setting we’ve seen a dozen times before, and he’s become creatively bankrupt at this point.
I feel like it would be much more worth while to just decanonize most of the new books leading up to when Greg should graduate and make him go to highschool and try to age the books with the readers. I stopped reading ages ago but I started reading these books in elementary school and have now graduated highschool before Greg even finished middle school
@ where I lived it was 7 and 8 but from what I can tell for most people it’s 6-8. The movies imply it’s grade 6 when he starts if memory serves me correctly. Either way he’s been in middle school for 6 or 7 years by this point
this newer books obviously suck but I still respect Jeff Kinney because the first books 0-6 were pretty good and he doesnt give up the series even tho he runs out of creativity.
I agree with you all the way on this. I actually posted a book review on Amazon, and I totally agree that it's perhaps the weakest book in the series due to their being no real conflict until act three, and how things seem on the up and up by the end, only for the status quo to reset entirely, making everything that happened in the book pointless.
What book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series do you consider to be the most underrated? My personal choice is Hard Luck since I don't usually see a ton of people talk about it, but I find it to be really interesting character-wise.
Literally word for word on how I feel about this book. No Brainer has so many plot holes that ruin the book for me like: Alex Aruda not being apart of the Fly Highers Club despite being one of the smartest students in his class. Hot Mess better cook with its family plot or I'll lose all hope in the series (also w hard luck fan).
I don’t think that’s a retcon, Greg’s principle from the earlier books gets fired at the start of No Brainer and the principle before her gets rehired.
Am the only one who kinda liked this book it was not that bad maybe I am actually going insane cause swear I looked on twitter and people liked this book idk what to think anymore.
Cuz Jeff Kiney is running out of Ideas
Which he could easily fix by aging up Greg, or not resetting a major plot point status quo every other book
@@FrenzyFanboyExactly! All those problems Jeff Kinney has with the series could go away if he committed to changes and/or aged Greg up.
These books are getting too comical, this isn’t even Wimpy Kid anymore. Like the early books had goofy moments but they were mostly still relatable. It kinda sucks how Kinney can’t stop making these books because they make so much money.
i agree
that stupid pig marked the start of the books going too far
To call this book unrealistic is an understatement. Nothing in this book makes sense with the lore of the previous stories so this was a REAL slog.
Does anyone else remember the part in Hard Luck where greg memtions a book series that became awful bc the author ran out of ideas
That's basically DOAWK now
And remember, Jeff Kinney said that the series will only end with him.
that was basically an incite what's happening now
page number pls
Edit: nvm i found it is 21
I'm pretty sure it was kind of a reference to himself, he probably had a thought about it when he created hard luck
He became the very thing he mocked.
what's crazy is that even the deep end has a chance now to be a better book in the DOAWK series.
Lets not ignore the fact the description of this book is a complete LIE. It says "Can Greg, Rowley and their classmates save their school before it gets shut down?" When in reality, that only happens for like 10 pages...
And Rowley doesn't do anything about it 💀
That’s what irritated me

better background footage than slime/subway surfers

That can work because Greg should've been in High School after Long Haul.
@FrenzyFanboy are you assuming that the middle school includes 3 or 4 grades? Because my middle school included 5th grade.
@@njf11- isn’t middle school grade 6-8

I for one, love this book
I read a few pages of no brainer and I instantly switch to big shot

They really need to age up Greg
this plot sounds so absurd its funny
I'm very happy to say that Hot Mess makes me confident to say that No Brainer was likely a fluke.

ugly truth
Old school
Old school & Wrecking Ball
Third wheel and double down
no brainer
so is your mic quality :hilarously_laughing_and_crying_emoji:
i think you forgot about long haul because the long haul is the worst one
WHY IS THE ROBOT THE MAIN CHARACTER
I didn’t even watch it and im saying: ITS YOUR OPINION
It was entertaining and probably my favourite book in the series. The thing that irritated me was the blurb
at least the deep end had a plot no brainier makes no sense
I mean Deep End's plot is pretty much Long Haul's but more boring
Literally word for word on how I feel about this book. No Brainer has so many plot holes that ruin the book for me like: Alex Aruda not being apart of the Fly Highers Club despite being one of the smartest students in his class. They could just name him Larry Westmore and bam it makes more since and the plot stays the same.
I’m now interested sounds like a fever dream
Wimpy Kid isn't realistic fiction anymore bruh
I would rather read this than Double Down or The Deep End
But it has some weird things in it
You take that back
I'm not even gonna buy this book.
Why does this book acutally look good, not in an overarching plot sense, but it seems good if you just want a funny read.
Tell Kinney to make books until book 20 or to book 27 which is in 2032 25 years later
Omg 25 years later is cannon
Also a retcon in one of the earlier books greg mentioned his principal was a woman not a man
I don’t think that’s a retcon, Greg’s principle from the earlier books gets fired at the start of No Brainer and the principle before her gets rehired.
