I'd like to ask the question again about my 5 month old retriever, I will give you more info. He is retrieving pheasant wings well and most other objects that are thrown. We are still in the yard training stages. He is becoming e-collar condioned and doing well with that . His only fault right now is that he is very aggressive to shackled birds . He doesn't want to give them up . He goes to where the birds and catches it and instead of retrieving it he wants to eat it as fast as he can. Because he knows I'm going to take it from him. He is on a check cord when we are doing this. I hope it's just a age thing and he will grow out of it. This is our sixth lab we have trained for hunting but never had this problem. What do you think ?
Try to play fetch with the caught bird, so the dog will not think that you are trying to steal his catch, but rather you become the "safe keeper". Turn it into the game of fetch and retrieve, and start at very short distances at first, like 3-4ft. and gradually increase the range of retrieval. then again, your comment is 10 months old, and i hope your pup has grown up smart )
How does the bird with the brailed wings flush? Or don't they? Thanks!
