  • We visit Indian Wells Canyon and hike to Five Fingers Mountain. The hike is steep and exhausting. We also explore some of the 4WD Jeep roads in the area and also the California Aqueduct which runs from Owens Lake to Los Angeles. We discuss the 1974 movie "Chinatown" with Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. There was and is much controversy still today about taking water from the Owens Valley and sending it to Los Angleles. Indian Wells Canyon is located off of Hwy 14 near the junction of Hwy 395 in Southern California near the towns of Ridgecrest and Mojave and not far from Tehachapi Pass and Hwy 58. It's a beautiful and desolate desert area that does not see a lot of visitors. And of course the infamous California Aqueduct passes right through the canyon!

Nice! I never hiked Five Fingers but saw it every day for over 40 years from my home in Ridgecrest. That burn scar to the north is going to take decades to heal.

Awesome! Heading out that way this week but no climbing. I know my limits.
