I've recently had a hyperfixation on finding, collecting, and classifying rocks. I found a medium sized one on the side of a creek that seemed to have strange markings, so I got a small flathead screwdriver and a rubber hammer and carefully cracked it in half to see what was inside. There was a large, nearly perfect fossil of an ammonite! The details were extraordinary!
I found a giant calcite rock once. I guess it was a geode cause i cracked it open but it was over a foot in diameter and roundish. It was very pretty but calcite is delicate
I've seen a few of him opening them up, but he doesn't crack them open like you'd see other people do. He uses a Dremel and slowly grounds them down to expose the inside. It's pretty cool.
Igneous rocks and metamorphic rocks generally won't have fossils, because the intense heat involved in forming those types of rocks tends to destroy fossils. Generally, the finer the grain of the sedimentary rock, the better fossils one will get.
I live in Kentucky, thought I’d give it a try so I went to the creek and within 15 minutes I found a handful of tiny fossils! I’m so excited. I’m hooked.❤️ It is amazing how much coral, little bugs, and shells that have found their way here.
Be careful... rockhounding and fossil hunting is extremely addictive!!! Next thing you know you will have buckets and boxes full of rocks and fossils in every square inch in your place! It's a fun hobby
We all thought he was gonna break the rock but he just tells us there's a legs and claws hiding somewhere in the rock. This guys can even see through the 4th dimension.
You must have the best eyes I didn't see one two three four legs sticking out. I love these fossils they're just so unique thank you for putting this on RUclips
It takes a special eye to notice small patterns. I could walk a beach and find shark teeth or a plowed field and find worked stone very easily. When I became a stone mason I found lots of fossils as well.
Nothing I love more than seeing people show their experience in really specialized hobbies, you can always see the passion and expertise ooze off of them while they speak! Always makes me want to give the hobby a go myself. Maybe I'll try fossil hunting ✌️💜
You have been doing this for a long time. Honestly the three legs i couldnt see, even after you pointed them out! I did see the claw but i would not know what it was, had you not said! So i will leave that part to you! I will be happy to just be a spectator!
It helps to know if you’re at a beach that’s already known to have the fossils at them. In the grand scale of things locations where they’re just accesible on the beaches are very rare. EDIT: this was specifically referring to crab fossils.
We was down the coast when younger.. My little sister threw a rock like that by accident and it hit the back of my head, the most upsetting part was there was no fossil in the rock, I couldnt forgive her for that
Right! Someone commented they watched him and went to look near them and found some! They seemed super happy and it made me smile as well. Spreading knowledge and inspiring people!
I kind of know what you mean. I always thought static electricity would taste kind of like a vinyl LP. I have no idea what either actually tastes like but they taste the same.
Man I just would’ve thought that would’ve been natural discoloration. Makes me think about how many rocks I’ve seen with my own eyes with fossils inside the, that I never knew about.
Knowing nothing about rocks that was my first pick, and people with no knowledge will say it's impossible to tell. There was a defect. It didn't get shaved down. It got built up. I've seen plenty of rocks. The odd one is usually odd for a reason
It's the same thing with any kind of fossil hunting, it's mostly a game of pattern recognition. Once you see certain patterns that indicate certain fossil organisms, it's impossible *not* to see them whenever they're there. Once you know the pattern to look for, it gets easier to spot.
If you guys are wondering how he sees the legs, you know when you take the legs off a crab and just leave the main body part? Imagine looking directly at those stubs and you could see the outline of those on the rock
Yeah he’s just built different. I’ve seen rocks before, they would always have small discoloured pieces in different spots and I just thought that’s how rocks are.
I appreciate you showing us where to find the legs and claw in that rock, but how will you open it up without destroying some of its parts? I think a lot of us would like to know that. Thanks! ❤
I have no idea why the algorithm brought me to you, I watch a lot of stuff but never something in this realm! I just watched you prep the mystery penguin, what an amazing life you have!
