I read something about this years ago in an old book, that article said something about soaking your sulphides in vinegar, causing the iron to rust, then when you roast, more gold particles are released. Oh, it seems it mentioned something about salt too, this would form a chloride and free up more gold, I surely don't know the chemistry.

In the copper refinery the Au & Ag fell out of the electrolytic cells into a mud. The Au/Ag was all tied up with Se & Te. We would flux it with niter and burn off the Se&Te (sulfur-ish stuff) to get the dore Ag, Our As got squeezed out of the electrolyte. Sb simply came out of solution and clogged the pipes!. Fun stuff, good info dude.

There are several types of pyrite, including:
Detrital pyrite: Made up of well-rounded grains that are usually single crystals
Massive pyrite: A chemically stable form of pyrite
Framboidal pyrite: A chemically unstable form of pyrite made up of very small cubic crystals that are not visible to the naked eye
Cathedral pyrite: A rare form of pyrite with prism growths on the cube faces that resemble the pointed windows of a Gothic cathedral
Pyrite sun: A circular disc-shaped concretion of metallic pyrite that forms in the bedding planes of coal deposits
Pyrite is an iron sulfide that is usually found in cubes or pyritohedra, which have 12 five-sided faces. It has a brassy color with a golden sheen and black undertones

I have been watching you for a long time. I just came back from a mountain camping church trip. I came back with about 45 lbs of quartz seam with sulpher, pirite, and a lot of grey black powder in it. Some white powder too.
I have tried to pan with no results. I spilled a touch of nitric on it and it madly fizzed. I put a small sample in hcl. It reacted and turned yellow. The quartz and lighter colered material became very chalky soft over night in the hcl.
I dont know what to do. I am a very newby. I will go to this area for morechurch trips at the end of every september. There are 2 gold mines in the area.

I recall reading a news article years ago about some gold being a n the Allegheny River due to glacial movements several thousand years ago. This river has been dredged for sand for decades, though less in recent years. It's the sand, I think that contained some gold.
But the river issue aside, of that little sample you picked out, what is it worth vs. the Man hours and other expenses. I guess, if you had to break it down into $$$ per hour are you looking at like $5, $10, $15 PER hour ?

I live on the west coast of Newfoundland and there is a ton of pyrite everywhere. I did some experiments about a year ago with pyrite and long story short I'm about to double check my results. Just a theory, but looks like pyrite might be the craziest mineral on earth. If I can repeat my results I already have, you haven't discovered how amazing pyrite CAN be.

Awesome video... if you had a po box, I'd send you a brass looking nugget of iron pyrite that would amaze you just from the look and color.
I have a ton of the stuff... I'd love to fry up myself😅😅😅

Would someone please provide me a link to any videos where Mr. Williams has ever found any MEANINGFUL amount of gold?
In other words, citing the old adage "time is money", a "meaningful" amount of gold would be an amount of gold which takes into consideration how much time and effort it takes to harvest the gold and determine if it is worth the effort or not. I can't even begin to tell you how many hours of Ask Jeff Williams videos I have watched, and while I do enjoy the science and geology lessons, I am not yet persuaded to actually go out into the field and put my gold pan to use. Yes, I've owned a gold panning kit for decades but for me it is a lot easier to just go to an online bullion dealer and just buy the damn stuff.

Didn't know if you had heard, but I just now read the article!
