  • With all the talk about fake news I thought this was worth posting...
    On August 29th, 2002, journalist and famed political commentator Hunter S. Thompson was interviewed by Australia’s ABC Radio National for his take on the events of 9/11. What he got was something that would hardly surprise followers of the irreverent gonzo scribe’s long career.
    While listening to Hunter’s interview, you have to bear in mind that it was conducted in the midst of a global media blitz with hundreds of pieces dedicated to the event - commemorations, followed by memorial, followed by Toby Kieth songs, followed by endless terror announcements. It would be fair to say that Thompson’s comments were certainly brave in the context of what was playing in the media at that time, although it appears that few mainstream pundits took serious note of them back then.
    RIP HST. A true American hero.

    Hunter S. Thompson....the great libertarian. He had a deeply ingrained distrust of government...whether it was government of the left or government of the right. That is what is so marvelous about him...he had fans from both sides of the political spectrum. R.I.P. Hunter. I'll see you in a few years. Wherever it is I hope there is lots of Wild Turkey and mescaline and unlimited guns and ammo.

    • @VitalyMack

      kris littledale i doubt Hunter would have anything to do with the Libertarian party. Just a group of corporate suck ups.

    • @2fewdaysafield
      @2fewdaysafield 6 лет назад +7

      +VitalyMack....I agree he'd have had nothing to do with the Libertarian Party. He was no great fan of any political party. But ultimately he WAS a libertarian (small l, not capitol L). The difference between the small l and capitol L is important. Changes the entire meaning of the word.

    • @VitalyMack
      @VitalyMack 6 лет назад

      kris littledale i hear you. Most people almost always assume the political party when libertarian is used. But then I think you are right, he is an anarchist through and through.

    • @2fewdaysafield
      @2fewdaysafield 6 лет назад +5

      Not even really an anarchist. He was a libertarian with a small 'l". He despised government and political parties and felt all people should have the RIGHT to do whatever they wanted so long as it didn't harm anyone but themselves. That is a very libertarian concept.
      Just for ships and grins....The Good Doctor even had a few nice words for Richard Nixon in "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72". Not many folks remember that.

    • @VitalyMack
      @VitalyMack 6 лет назад +1

      kris littledale my understanding of the term libertarian is during the 19th century the term anarchy was outlawed, so a famous magazine renamed their publication as Libertarian instead of Anarchist to stay in business. And the term stuck.
      Love that book by the way.

    I'm 73 and read Hunter in real time, and came quickly to love the crazy bastard. If I may, a counter-point: I have little doubt had some crazy fucks invaded Woody Creek and blew up Hunter's home, he would have hunted them down and shot 'em all in the head. And justifiably so. As was going to Afghanistan to shoot all those crazy fuckers in the head. Eye for an eye, right Hunter? The problem, as it is in most if not all wars, is the insatiable bloodlust for more.
    I'm also a veteran. But believe, as Hunter and many other luminaries did and still do, that war is the ultimate manifestation of mankind's insanity. And no small reason why I still enjoy psychedelics.

      It would be nice to have a real investigation in regards to his alleged “suicide”, The last piece of journalism he was workIng on was The 911 incident where he proclaimed “I think I’ve found the smoking gun in this 911 story” (WTC Buliding 7) Shortly after making this statement he was “suicided” a manner of death in which he had only weeks before stated “would never happen by his own hand.” It would appear that the rogue intelligence apparatus caught wind of his investigation & silenced him permanently. With 20 years hindsight, it appears that he was truly a martyr & deserves Justice.
