We have had 14,000 nearly trouble-free miles thus far on our 2019 Touring, but no off-road jaunts as yet. Our one issue is a wheel that slowly loses air while the others hold perfectly even through the big temperature changes we have here in central NYS. It’s our first Subaru - We love this car!

    Yeah, I heard and read those 2 brands make the best batteries: Odyssey and Optima. Until I bought my new Forester, I had been driving a 2009 Camry and when AAA came out to give me a jump (I had an Interstate battery installed), I was due for a new one so I bought one from AAA and they back it for 3 years (no mileage limitation) and if you have problems with it within 3 years, AAA will replace the battery with a new one for free. But, to save my wife, 2 adult kids, and myself any battery-related hassles, I'm going with Odyssey or Optima from now on.

    • @Lucrativesoldier
      @Lucrativesoldier  2 года назад

      My Odyssey has been great, but the Subaru auto stop/start seems to struggle sometimes. I’ve also noticed that often when I first start the car just after pumping gas, it struggles to start. Not sure why, but I will have to find answers.

    Super useful to know the better battery makes the stop/start function a lot smoother. I really dislike how rough that process is in my 2020 Forester.

  • @bt4b4

    Your spot on with the battery situation ! My new Ascent battery died after 2 months of ownership. Tow truck guy said he sees a lot of new Subaru due to a very weak battery from factory..... I replaced with an Interstate, and very happy now. Hope your parents Ascent is doing ok as well. Happy Birthday, peacefrom510

      Man, not good. Sorry to hear that. Mine actually cut out on me in the Starbucks line. Auto stop/start didn’t start back up. Luckily I got it to start, and went straight to get a battery. 😂. Didn’t want to end up like you having to get towed.😒 My parents battery went out in the beginning like yours. Subaru replaced it, and it just went out again around the time I replaced mine.😒. So they replaced it with the Odyssey also. I’ve heard good things about the interstate battery.👍🏾. Other than the battery, they haven’t had any new issues with the Ascent. Still tranny and brake issues, that they can’t get taken care of.😒
      Thanks for the birthday wishes!

    Just rolled over to 7800 miles on my 2020 Sport. Only had 2 issues, only one that was the cars fault. The hood was misaligned so they adjusted the hood stopper. Still not right, hood needs to be loosened and realigned. That is getting done at the next oil change.
    Second problem: We finally got our Michigan snow. Car handled 16-18 inches of snow with no problems. Went to check on mom's property and didn't realize the driveway had been leveled before it snowed. No problem with the 18 inches of snow. BIG problem with the 8 inches of mud that was under the 18 inches of snow, not frozen and the car sank in while it was parked. Took an hour of digging to get it out in 15 degree weather. That part sucked. Stock tires worked in the snow but we're unimpressive. Toyo Open Country AT3's going on next.

    I've had battery issues with my '19 as well. I've got a dash cam that I have hard wired in with a battery saver module for parking mode, and I started noticing that after about 20 minutes, the battery would drop below the set voltage to keep my dash cam on. Then I started noticing more sluggish starts... Had it tested at auto zone with a 62% charge after driving for a few hours so I started looking around for new batteries, pretty much all places were completely sold out of the group 35 AGMs, with them not even being available for backorder. I did see the Odyssey though, just couldn't drop the 300 bucks then and there. Ended up remembering my warranty since I only had about 8000 miles at that time, and I just crested 10k miles this past weekend. Called up my dealership, took it in, they tested the battery, and replaced it with the last one they had, and they also told me I got lucky because they were backordered with no ETA haha. Other than that, and an AC fan pully that made extra noise that the dealership found and replaced during an oil change, I've had no issues. As for the warranty, I'm currently leasing mine, but since I've had an accident (rear ended at a red light) and the fact that my dealership will give a free lifetime warranty on a purchase of a brand new vehicle, I think once my lease is done, I'll purchase a new forester. Besides, I'm interested in what this Wilderness edition will have.

    • @Lucrativesoldier
      @Lucrativesoldier  3 года назад

      I have to agree with you there. I would have gladly saved the money too if it were still under warranty. I was able to get my odyssey battery for about $260 out the door from a local shop.
      Glad things are going good with your vehicle. Wow, lifetime warranty, and included with your purchase? I wish I could have gotten that deal.
      I would like to see the wilderness edition also. Im sure we'll still want to mod those too. lol. But it will be nice to have everything covered under the warranty.

    • @JDS-Dalton
      @JDS-Dalton 3 года назад +1

      One of these days I'll get myself an Odyssey battery though, whether it's for my current forester, or the next one.
      Yea, lifetime warranty on the engine, transmission, and drive axle, valid anywhere as long as you have it. So that pretty much guarantees that I'm going to buy my next vehicle from them.
      Yea, I'm also hearing rumors that they may add the turbo that's in the outback onyx to the wilderness edition as well, and I'm hoping they do. Would not mind having a little extra power when you get that one slow driver that suddenly decides to speed up when you try to pass haha.

    Thanks so much for all you share in your videos. You are one of the reasons I just bought a '21 Sport and love it so far. Any tips on the sport seats to protect the cloth section. Trying to find out if we can scotchguard the cloth areas ( mask the leather off) and maybe paint on with a brush? Does it need it? Definitely appreciate the tips on windshield ( hope I avoid this....). I might have missed, but do you recommend getting extended warranty? I didn't buy upon initial purchase, but thinking I might want this for all the tech potential issues and other long term since I plan to keep the car as long as possible. Thanks again for sharing the great information.

    Btw my only issue is the abrupt stop/start I don't like at all..and the radio system is wierd to me but it may be my phone honestly. Do you have a extended warranty? Or just the 3 year 36k mile warranty. I purchased 3 extra years for $1900... Would you say I got hosed or is that a good idea to keep the warranty? I'm thinking about cancelling. I just got my tags for my car too because being military I opted to register in my home of record and modesto subaru dropped the ball..I bought in August and just received NC tags from them yesterday. So they paid for my gas and subaru of america is covering $500 towards my monthly payment.

      Yeah the stop/start isn’t as smooth as other vehicles I have driven, but replacing the battery has made it a lot better. I’m thinking the OEM battery really isn’t built for the stop/start.😒. Currently I haven’t gotten my money worth out of the extended warranty, but I tell people it’s like insurance. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. But I think a lot of people don’t realize you can negotiate a better price on that too. I got mine down to $1200 because they were willing to match the rate my credit union was offering. So just some info for next time.

    Thanks for the update! Happy B-Day. I'm wondering if the load on the batter also has to do with the upgraded sounds you have on the vehicle? Either way glad you mentioned it. I have the 2020 base model, and I may just start driving with the auto-start/stop feature off. I'm almost at 23k in mine. I may just get that battery you installed for smoother operation.
    Had winter tires installed late Dec2020, and the pressure sensor went bad. Seeing that it was good before the tires were swapped, I'm thinking something went on during the installation. But the dealership swapped it out for a new one right away. With the winter dying down I'll be swapping back my all seasons any day now.
    Have you ever thought about swapping out your exhaust tail pipe? Nameless has been making some nice ones for Foresters for several years now. Many vids online on people who swapped their own. Pretty DIY. Not sure if you're in to the noisy exhaust though, as it's not part of the off-road fashion, and more of the street racer mod. That exhaust clearance allows for a 5-inch diameter tail pipe. And Nameless makes one that fits it perfectly. And I think some actually bring out that boxer rumble sound that the WRX's no longer have. But to each their own.
