  • Fairytale of New York - Song from the Pogues which describes how Christmas can go wrong. "Fairytale of New York" is a song written by Jem Finer and Shane MacGowan and first released as a single on 23 November 1987 by their band The Pogues, featuring singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl on vocals. The song was written as a duet, with the Pogues' singer MacGowan taking the role of the male character and Kirsty MacColl the female character. It is an Irish folk-style ballad.
Fairytale of New York - Lyrics
    (The gargling)
    It was Christmas Evening
    In the drunk tank
An old man said to me
    won't see another one
And then he sang a song
    The Rare Old Mountain Dew
And I turned my face away
    And dreamed about you
    Got on a lucky one
    Came in eighteen to one
    And I had a feeling
This year's for you and me
    So happy Christmas
    I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams will come true
They've got cars big as bars
    They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
    On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me Broadway was waiting for me
    You're handsome, you're pretty
    Queen of New York City
    When the band finished playing
    They howled out for more
    Sinatra was swinging
All the drunks they were singing
    We kissed on a corner
    Then danced through the night
Well, the boys of the NYPD choir
    Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
    For Christmas day
    You're a bum, you're a slum
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
    You scumbag, you faggot
    You cheap lousy maggot
    Happy Christmas my arse
I pray God it's our last
Well, the boys of the NYPD choir
    Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
    On Christmas day
    I could have been someone
    Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
    When I first found you
But I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
    Can't make it all undone
I've built my dreams around you
Well, the boys of the NYPD choir
    Still singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells are ringing out
    On Christmas day
Well, the boys of the NYPD choir
    Still singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells are ringing out
    On Christmas day
    ... I love you Honeybonny

The musicians of Rapalje with their wild hair and medieval kilts create a flaming energy with their enthusiasm and motivation. With sensitive ballads, fiery songs and vivacious Celtic melodies Rapalje electrifies their audience. A concert of Rapalje is like a journey through time with recognizable licentiousness and a rough way of life.
